Fresh and yummy. Charming atmosphere. Wide selection of menu choices. The only complaint is how long it takes to get a drink. We were prepared to wait for our lunch (40 minutes for a salad and sand which ) but 15 for bottled water and lemonade seemed extreme. Regardless it’s the best food in the area so enjoy it !

Wonderful and lovely place. Not only food is one of the tastiest I had in my entire life but also staff is very attentive and sensitive. If you are gluten free due to celiac or if you have any food allergy, staff will be very careful and clean the grill to avoid cross contamination. Highly recommend to anyone especially those who are celiac or have any food allergy:

There aren't a lot of restaurants in or near Farmington but the Bittersweet Cafe is a must when visiting this area. It's a cozy cafe with plenty of outdoor seating with wonderful, whimsical decor. We all enjoyed our breakfast and yummy coffee drinks - I recommend the breakfast sandwich on their homemade English muffin - yum! Can't say enough good things about this restaurant - will definitely return if we are visiting this part of PA again.

My wife and I drove from Pittsburgh to have special lunch on Monday 8/31. Having eaten there before, we were aware of the possible wait so we arrived a 1:40 PM.
Our first choices for sandwiches were not available. Cafe ran out of the main item. Our order($36.00) arrived approximately 50 minutes latter on undersized buns and my burger was burnt to a crisp and totally tasteless. The Cafe was busy but this did not justify the poor quality of food.
Additionally, the Cafe was not prepared for the amount of business on Monday. They were sold out of main items. The tables were not cleared . Food particles were on the floor and in the cracks on the table. A cat was roaming around the tables eating food particles from the floor.

Nemacolin and Falling Water are very near this fantastic casual eatery housed in a wooden rustic building with tons of plants and herbs all around. We had a fantastic salmon sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, pickled roasted beets and broc cheddar soup ( not gloupy and heavy with cream or cheese at all). We will return soon!

If you are in the Laurel Highlands near Ohiopyle and Farmington PA you MUST visit Bittersweet Cafe. This place offers very original creations as breakfast and lunch fare. We were overwhelmed by the beautiful setting and the tasty, simple offerings.
I had the pulled pork grilled cheese. I asked for the jalapeno aioli on the side. It came perfectly toasted with melted cheddar . Wow, the sourdough was excellent. I added the mac and cheese which was also outstanding with gooey melted white cheddar.
My wife had the grilled cheese and added bacon and tomato. It was exceptionally prepared and flavorful. The orange pomegranate tea was the best unsweetened tea I have experienced.
Super place you won't want to miss. Plus, the staff was outstanding.

This review is for the Bittersweet location inside of Ohiopyle, behind the fire hall. We ordered a frozen mocha, a strawberry lemonade, and a side of mac & cheese. Total was $21 and change. Drinks and food were great. However.....I, and everyone else waiting, nearly left because I was never acknowledged after walking in and standing behind two customers that hadn't ordered yet. I had no idea who had been waited on, etc. Shortly thereafter, three more people came in behind me. They all eventually left because, again, we were all standing there with nobody acknowledging anyone whatsoever. No "we'll be right with you", or anything. This place is tiny. Like 50 sq. ft. The lady taking the orders, and the man making the food, literally did not speak to anyone waiting. It took about 20 minutes to order, and we waited about 5-10 minutes for the two drinks and pre-made side of mac and cheese. Definitely will not be back. Probably one of the most confusing things ever when ordering food anywhere. My advice to Bittersweet: If you're backed up, or have any reason for a holdup, simply tell the customers who are waiting. You can't have 5 people standing in line and completely ignore their presence.

This is a beautiful cafe. It is a total treat to stop into while traveling in the area. It is warm and well decorated. We enjoyed the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato very much. It is pressed into a perfect panini on sourdough bread. The chicken salad was good but VERY heavy on mayo so important to like it prepared that way. The side salad was tasty with various homemade dressings available. The Bittersweet Ranch has a clear flavor of dill which was a nice variation on a classic. All of the food is fresh and in season. Love the strong support for sourcing ingredients from local farms. We tried a few desserts including the cheesecake but the sandwiches are where the cafe shines. Fun music plays in the background. The cafe has a lovely commitment to the community with the opportunity to buy a "coupon" to donate money (with specific designations) for someone traveling through in need or to accept a coupon of donation if needed. The service is very efficient albeit not particularly friendly although cafe was not busy during our visit. Ample parking. Would return.

A few weeks ago, we had brunch at this beautiful cafe.
You have to order and pay first and then you find a table to sit. It was not busy at all when we visited (close to noon time) but it became very busy in the next hour or so.
My cappuccino was very good. We ordered a simple grilled cheese sandwich (without bacon or tomato) pressed into a panini that tasted great. I also tried the grilled cuban sandwich that included roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard pressed on sourdough bread; it was fantastic!
There was no home lemonade. We also did not try any of the salads or the desserts, so I cannot comment on them.
The service was fairly efficient but the staff did not seem very interested in explaining everything and providing options and alternatives. The prices were reasonable.
We would definitely return.

We were in the area for a short getaway from Pittsburgh to celebrate our anniversary and Bittersweet Cafe was recommended to us. I'm so glad we stopped. We loved everything about the restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the food selections are plentiful, and we loved every fresh, homemade bite. We had the Apple Harvest Salad, a cookie, and peach tea. The sandwiches looked amazing too. If you are in the area, don't miss this gem.

Chicken salad sandwich, grilled cuban, cookies, chocolate and strawberry cupcakes and, to top it off, raspberry chocolate torte with freshly made whipped cream and raspberry sauce. Where do I start? We brought the cupcakes back home to Philly and several people asked where we had gotten them. Just a wee 4h 30m ride away. And worth it!

The breakfast sandwich was outstanding. Homeade english muffin, red pepper relish, bacon and cheese. The London fog was perfect and I couldn't resist their carrot cake which was spiced perfectly. Great food and beautiful setting.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere! We’ve eaten here twice. It’s a wonderful place to stop before or after visiting family in Pittsburgh. The pulled pork grilled cheese with the bitter sweet bbq sauce was so good! So was the bittersweet burger, the egg is a nice touch and the bacon is delish! We also loved the best BLT. In our opinion, you can’t go wrong here!

Delicious food and very friendly service in a great, laid-back setting (with indoor and outdoor seating options)! So glad we took the recommendation of another hotel guest and stopped at Bittersweet Cafe for lunch. Their menu features locally procured food that is prepared fresh. There are classics (like rubens) on their menu as well as inventive combinations like pulled pork grilled cheese. And plenty of choices for vegetarians, too. They have lots of drink options (caffeinated and not, hot and iced, smoothies, lemonades, teas and more). The peach iced tea was fantastic! And they have baked goods and ice cream. The orange-iced and apricot/oatmeal cookies we bought to eat on our drive home were wonderful! The simple meal we had there was among the best food we experienced in the days we spent in the area. Will definitely return.

Had breakfast our last morning in Farmington! It was delicious!!! We only wish we had found it sooner! A person with food allergies would have no problems eating here. All organic. The staff was very friendly and answered all my questions! Will have to return soon!!
