Quiet, low key Italian restaurant. The food was excellent as well as the service. The seafood pasta dish was fantastic.

We were excited to try this restaurant as there were a lot of great reviews, and a couple "so-so" reviews. I figured the "so-so" reviews were people that may have been hard to please - WRONG! One of our appetizers was the bruschetta, which some...other people had bragged about. I looked at it and was surprised to see 4 pieces of bread with diced tomatoes on top, that was it. I tasted it, figured that the tomatoes probably had the balsamic vinegar already on them - nope. The bruschetta was just unseasoned diced tomatoes on toasted bread, zero flavoring, no cheese - for $14. I asked the waitress for some balsamic vinegar to add to it to at least add some flavor which helped. I had gotten the veal which was tender, but the capers in the white wine sauce was overpowering and very strong - very strong vinegar taste. Dessert was a 3 cheese cheesecake which was very good, that took the rating from a 2* to a 3*. Maybe they got a new chef since all of the good reviews, but I cannot recommend it as I've had better in the small rural town we live in. I'll try other places next time we're in Baltimore.More

My wife and I ended up in Baltimore unexpectedly ( long story), and so we relied on Trip Advisor for restaurant recommendations. La Tavola reviewed well and we decided to try it. Fantastic experience from start to finish. Bruschetta was outstanding, veal was amazing, and...the strawberry tiramisu was sublime! Service was excellent and the owner stopped by the table for a brief chat. Lovely experience. Well done Trip Advisor!More

Overall very good food and great service. Visiting our daughter and hadn’t been here in several years-so glad we tried it again. We started by sharing the frito misto which we devoured, followed by salads. The insalata mista was good but the dressing was not...very flavorful. My husband and I had the veal Norcina which was excellent, along with roasted root vegetables. Daughter had a dish similar to cioppino which she requested be served with linguine and it was wonderful with copious fresh shellfish. We barely had room for dessert but managed to eat profiteroles, tartufo and gelato affogato with coffee and cappuccino. Husband and daughter enjoyed a cocktail and wine. My only suggestion would be a tastier bread and a more lively salad dressing. There are wonderful selections on the menu yet to be tried so I look forward to another visit soon. Our waiter was very friendly and his service was perfect.More

The manager (Anthony) was great to work with. He guided us...through the whole process and was just wonderful. Everyone had a great time. Anthony also makes the BEST espresso martinis. We were looking for a place for dinner, this place was about to close but they were so kind to let us in for dinner. Outstanding, fresh food. You can tell they made everything fresh. I just loved it. Nothing bad to say. Great cozy...atmosphere. I would definitely go back and sip on wine and stay longer. We were respectful with our time and theirs. I have already recommended this place to my colleague who will be in Baltimore in a few weeks.More

The waitress gets the 2 stars, the rest of the experience gets a zero. I ordered spaghetti with meat sauce. They don’t have meatballs because the cook is from a country that uses veal. The pasta was chewy hard, and the little bit of sauce...had very little taste. Not even an average Italian experience. When I made the online reservation they asked if there was a special occasion. On the drop-down I picked birthday because it was my friends 61st birthday. When we were seated I asked the waitress if she was advised that we have a birthday person with us, and I advised on the reservation. She said they hadn’t told her yet. Well we did dinner and dessert, and never a word more about birthday boy. Why would a restaurant ask you this question, then get a reminder, and do absolutely nothing. We won’t return.More

We had planned a walking food tour that ended up getting cancelled and were recommend La Tavola for a meal as it was one of the stops. When I heard handmade pasta I was hooked! I used to make cavatelli with my Sicilian grandmother and...when our kids were younger we made pasta together. La Tavola did not disappoint! Hubby took one bite of his spaghetti and said, ‘oh yeah this is good.’ I ordered the gnocchi and was in love from the first bite. If you’ve never experienced handmade pasta you definitely need to try LaTavola.More

I spent a long time searching for gluten free and dairy free food, while in Baltimore. I found this restaurant listed in GrubHub, and recommended by other gluten free sites. Since I was alone, and didn’t know my way around, I ordered the Strofie Vegetali...for dinner, through GrubHub, for dinner, one night. This was hand made gluten free pasta, with a selection of vegetables, in a wine sauce. It came nicely packaged, in a reusable tray, with my utensils and some separate bread. Not sure the bread was gluten free, but it didn’t cause problems, when I ate it. Ate half for dinner, and cold leftovers for lunch, the next day. The cold leftovers were much like a pasta salad, with vegetables. Hotel did not provide a microwave, where I could reheat food, so I was forced to eat leftovers cold.More

We dined here on our way home from Cape May, NJ., always a fabulous place to visit. We stopped in on a Friday, about 1:30PM; street parking was easy. The venue itself -- located in Ba,timore's Little Italy -- is nothing fancy, but truly nice...enough. The resto is not the "red-sauce Italian" associated with southern Italian cooking. Rather, it's northern Italian, with flavors that tend to be somewhat more complex and subtle. We ordered some good Chianti and, as a starter, the burrata salad. Was it off-the-charts great, like no other burrata salad we'd ever had? Nope. But it was absolutely delicious and, unquestionably, among the best. It was large, so we split it. I ordered the taleggio fettuccine with truffles. Was it the best taleggio fettuccine with truffles I've ever had? Yes! But I had never had it before. My only comparable would be a fettuccine alfredo. Was it better? OMG! Absolutely stunning. The portion was huge enough to easily accommodate my lunch the next day. Or so I thought. Well, at least I left with having an appetizer left. I wanted to stop. It was just so amazingly good. My wife had the capellini Napoletana, which, for 15 minutes, limited her vocabulary to "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm." I concur. Chef Carlo stopped at our table to inquire about our evaluation of what he had created. We applauded (literally) him. If you are within a two-hour drive, this place is a must.More

La Tavola is I think the BEST Italian restaurant in Baltimore. The chef-owner, Chef Carlo, is a creative genius with food. He makes virtually everything in house, including the bread, the pasta, as well as the sauces and the main entrees. And he uses the...freshest ingredients. On my recent visit, I had an appetizer I think was called bresole. It was a bed of thinly cut, cured meat, with fresh arugula, cheese, balls of melon. And for me the most special thing was figs that the chef lightly grilled. The chef has a fig tree in his backyard. Right now he has a lot of figs from this fig tree. Lightly grilling the fig brings out its sweetness. I have literally never tasted that in my entire life. And I cannot get that for any amount of money anywhere, except at La Tavola. The chef has a commercial fishing license and he sometimes goes fishing in the morning and serves at the restaurant the fish he caught the same day. The chef's commitment to fresh ingredients is unparalleled. Then I had the short ribs on a bed of risotto. Absolutely fabulous. The meat just falls off the bone. And for dessert I had the tartuffo. I need my food gluten free so I have just the top part of the tartuffo (so no cake). It tastes great. It's gelato with a chocolate sauce. I should mention all the dishes I named here are specials. Special means it is not available all the time. This is another reason why I never tire of eating here. In addition to the regular menu items, there are always specials that change depending on what fresh ingredients the chef has on hand that day. The chef is also very open to making his restaurant gluten-free friendly. He does not have a dedicated gluten free kitchen. But I am happy to report I eat here frequently and I have never gotten sick from gluten here. I don't know of any other restaurant in Baltimore that has home made gluten free pasta. Chef Carlo offers strofe which is made with Italian gluten free flour. All I care is it tastes great. Almost all of the pasta dishes are gluten free if you make it with strofe. Dining here is like dining with family. I like the relaxed atmosphere. The atmosphere is casual but it is also nice enough and the food is special enough to be a special event restaurant. Plus I have always been thrilled with the food here. It's definitely a restaurant worth visiting!!More

Based on a recommendation we tried this restaurant. We were in Baltimore for a mini vacation and it was my wife's Birthday. Let me tell you it was one of the BEST Italian meals we have had any where, and I mean any where. The...portions were large; flavor outstanding; and authentic flavors/taste you would find in Italia "spot on". If you are visiting Baltimore make it a must go to restaurant - you will not be disappointed. Daniel was our waiter and his attention to everyone was great. The chef/owner Carlo came out and talked to us and talked about Venice (which is his home town). The charm; the atmosphere; the food; and the service was outstanding.More
