.. what a gem!! stopped in to meet a friend for drinks, the space is beautiful and modern, bustling but not crowded...we sat at the bar and had drinks and some food...the crab cakes were amazing, not heavily seasoned but very meaty! the meatless nachos were huge and loaded and the lobster mac left me speechless...i can't wait to come... The food IS good - but not great, and when you combine it with acoustics that are overbearingly loud - City Cafe is not a spot we would choose to have dinner again. A casual lunch - yes - or a place to hang out and work - maybe - but dinner? - no.
Perhaps it is unfair to expect anything of a restaurant during Restaurant Week, City Cafe was packed and as a result, incredibly noisy. The acoustics of this place are awful-- we couldn't hear our waiter at times. To make things even worse, a table next to us contained 5 drunk, screaming, shrill and obnoxious folks who ignored our not-so-subtle hints... More
Once again we were not disappointed! The kitchen creates amazing food over and over again. (And the price of our entree was so reasonable). The "1999" price of the cosmo was a great surprise and was delicious; our server was pleasant and efficient. What's not to LOVE at this neighborhood gem. We'll be back soon.
We dined here over a year ago and were rushed as we had theater tickets and vowed to come back with more time to spend dining and that's we did last Friday night. We reserved ahead and found parking right out front on the street (free parking after 6pm). Fantastic food, my Lobster Pappardelle was delicious as it was loaded... More
The Butternut soup was awesome. The restaurant has dim lighting so I’m not sure but I think I was stirring a little cream and wine around in my soup. It was good as well as the fried Green Tomatoes with lumps of buttery crabmeat. Topped off with a dry Riesling. We had to a little wait due to Saturday night... More
I would like to give this place a better review, I have been going here for over 10 years. When I first started going it was a very fun place for just good food but they have become so trendy over the years and the menus have become very pretentious. Last time I was there my bill was over $50... More
Visited with a group ranging from 19 to 74 and everyone loved it. We all had something different and each meal was great. The menu is interesting, portions are generous, the food is fabulous and the space is trendy but comfortable. A great choice in the Mount Vernon area.
