Three of us got three different lamb dishes. All lovely. Rice accompaniment good, and the other vegetables. Don't accept the nan (bread) they suggest, though--chewy-tough, not much flavor, and not worth the $4.50 charge; kind of an insult to the diner and meal. Very prompt service. Nice environment, but extremely noisy when we came.

We have never been disappointed at the Helmand. The food is Delicious! Could eat there once a week - why not? We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and reunions there. WE have had all kind of dishes and always including the pumpkin appetizer. The service is gracious and on time. The atmosphere is charming - a mini visit abroad! and the... More

This restaurant has been a staple of Baltimore's ethnic cuisine diversity for many years. The Karzai brothers have many successful restaurants, this was the first. The quality of their food is still wonderful giving people a taste of the complex flavors of the silk road - cinnamon, ginger, garlic, apricots, mint cilantro, pomegranate, turmeric, raisin, etc. I had the Dwoplaza,... This place gets very crowded as the food is very good and the prices are very reasonable. If you've never had Afghan food try it, it's not too adventurous a cusine (chicken and lamb predominate and yogurt is used in a lot of sauces). Wine list is surprisingly good and without the very high mark ups other places charge.

Make a reservation for this place or you'll be waiting hours. We were seated promptly, drinks were given quickly, and no sooner had we ordered an appetizer than it was on the table! We had the eggplant started which was incredible. The yogurt garlic sauce is just so good. We ordered mains, both one of the lamb dishes and again,... More

My youngest daughter and her fiance took us out to dinner at The Helmand Restaurant during our visit to Baltimore . I had never had cuisine from Afghanistan before and was looking forward to it. We both had a dish called Chopendez and we're certainly not disappointed. This consisted of grilled beef tenderloin and challow (seasoned rice) as well as... More

I had never tried Afghan food. The food was very interesting and delicious. II thought it had elements of Indian, Iranian/Middle east food without being too spicy. The most interesting part was the combination of ingredients and flavors that are not normally seen in Western Food. The restaurant is very popular, so booking is essential. Also, the service was acceptable... More

We went with two other couples, none of us having any experience with this cuisine. Our server was excellent and they suggested a family style meal that offers samples of a wide variety of dishes. We did this and they were happy to customize for our gluten free diner and our carb free diners too. It was interesting experience. Personally... More

Went with a party of 6, and this was everyones first time eating Afghani. Since we had a large party, they recommended we all get the deal where you basically get a little bit of many items from the menu. This was great for newbies because we all got to try a little bit of everything. It was more than... More
