Been here many times growing up and decided to visit when we traveled back to Jacksonville. This is my second visit in the past year and nether have been very good. Probably shouldn't have tried it again, my mistake. The good news is the Chicken Fingers were very good but that's it. The 5 Wing Dinner was really bad, wings... More

So after driving past this place at least 4 times a week, we decided to finally try it. The best part of the meal was the gravy. Either the logic is you have to drench the chicken in it- along with everything else- or someone forgot to season the chicken! I wasn't thrilled at all....

The fried chicken was beautifully prepared and tasted just fine. The French fries were tasteless and the creamed peas tasted like they were directly from the can with a thick sauce added. The cole slaw had a bit of a strange taste - horseradish taste came through. The gravy was heavily seasoned with pepper and the biscuits were very small,... More

If you want a true southern fried chicken meal, this is the place to go. This place was there practically before Jacksonville was a city. Family style servings.

Excellent fried chicken, some of the best I've ever had. Appetizers are available. Side items are supposed to be all-you-care-to-eat. The mayonnaise-based cole slaw was excellent. The mashed potatoes were a bit thin. The decor is badly dated. The restroom was much more attractive than the dining room. The dining room is dingy and needs a good cleaning. There were... More

Ate at the ole' Beach Road Chicken Dinners on Valentines Day. Food still great but, I think it a bit unfair that you are not allowed to take home the remaining sides you don't eat. (that are served on the table, originally, with no refills.) Of course, you are given a white paper bag for the remaining chicken, biscuits, you... More

Our server Jason, obviously knows the menu inside and out, he made great recommendations and suggestions. We ordered the Basic Chicken Dinner, the sides items are served family style, you pick a starch, potato or rice, all dinners come with creamed sweet peas, biscuits and homemade chicken gravy. The recipes are original to the 1939 menu. The food was hot... More

We visited again while in the area for Thanksgiving.... They seem to have changed the cream peas recipe but it could have been that batch. The gravy was awesome as usual and the chicken was good. It is an old timely Florida restaurant that has only changed for the better over time with expanded takeout. Staff still friendly.

Have eaten here for years, last time was a little disappointing, table of 6 plus a togo order and our waitress did not seem to want to keep the sides coming, had to ask and wait a while in between refills of 1 side type per table each time, splitting 6 ways not enough, bring 2 of each, creamed peas... As one reviewer said, "This place used to be REALLY great in the 1970's, but is now just very good." I could say the same about myself. Last night, 10/29/15 - the chicken was very good, the mashed potatoes, the gravy, and the creamed peas were divine, the rice was dried out and dumb, and the biscuits were ordinary. They... More
