My wife loves pizza, so I bought a groupon for Ale Pie House. What I thought was local turned out to be 30 minutes away. Grumbling we set off not knowing what to expect. When we arrived it was off the beaten path and parking...was limited. Turns out it was a local hang out and the menu was large serving everything from Pizzas to Calzones and multiple pasta choices. We decided to share a 16" Meat Veggie Fruit pie. It was stacked with Ham, tomato, beef, black olives, mushrooms, garlic, pepperoni, bacon, spinach, red onions, green peppers, pineapple, and covered with mozzarella cheese. Best Pizza ever. The crust was perfect and the contents delicious. I have been converted to loving pizza. Well worth a visit.More

Oh, where to start on a bad meal at Ale Pie House?  We went here using a Living Social voucher, and I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this experience.  Let's begin before you even step inside.  The parking situation is atrocious.  There is only enough parking for...8-10 cars in the lot, and the nearby businesses all have "Tow-away Zone" signs posted, so that's not an option while they are open.  The service was mediocre at best, and not what I would consider "rapid".  Our original server either hadn't been there long or was poorly trained, as she had no idea what was available on tap in the bar.  We ordered the steamed clams in white wine sauce as an app, and they arrived at the table about 20 minutes after we ordered them.  Both the clams and the accompanying bread were delivered just above room temperature, and the clams would have been fairly tasty if they would have been hot.  The bread had to be dipped in the wine sauce in order to give it any flavor at all.     Our second server came to take our entree order, and she skipped one of my party of 3 when taking entree orders. On to the meal itself. My husband ordered a meat calzone, and my daughter I split a seafood combo in white wine sauce (which was a plus, as i was the person that was ignored earlier during entree ordering).  The food arrived and the first thing that my husband noticed was that the crust of his calzone was nearly identical in temperature to the clams and bread that were previously delivered.  After he cut into it, it became obvious that it hadn't cooked long enough, as most of the cheese inside had not even melted.  The seafood combo was about the same temperature, even though the scallops had been overcooked to the point of resembling rubber "Super Balls".  The server, when asked about the seafood, replied that it was frozen, which I find interesting given that Jacksonville is a major seafood port in FL.  My husband returned his meal as inedible, and requested that the charge be removed from our check, which was done without any issues.    I can say a few good things about this restaurant:  The beer was cold and not flat, they have a decent selection of drafts on tap for beer drinkers, the sweet tea is really good, and the server was nice enough to send us home with a Chocolate Trio dessert on the house for our troubles.  The dessert was the highlight of the evening.  From my husband, “I can honestly say that I will never darken the doors of the Ale Pie House again after tonight, and I sincerely hope that this review either gets the restaurant to improve or helps someone avoid an experience like mine.”More

Good Italian food for reasonable prices. Definitely try the calamari and a pasta. The pizzas we have not been as thrilled with as the other items on the menu.

The gluten free crust was amazing, the best we've tried at any pizza place (that offers cow-dairy free cheese). My wife had a build your own with feta and goat cheese on the gluten free crust and it was delicious. I had the chicken pesto...which was also delicious. We tried this place since they had the gluten free options and a groupon and it will be a regular spot for us when we come to town again.More

My wife and I had a great visit here. The deep dish pizza and the Calzone were really tasty. Good portion sizes too. Service was friendly even on a slow week night. We’ll be back!

What a Great find in Avondale (Jacksonville). A very friendly and family atmosphere. My wife and I met up with my Niece and her boyfriend for some really good Italian. My wife had the Eggplant Calzone and I had the meat Calzone. Both were really...good. We heated up my wife's the following day for lunch and I think I liked it better than the meat calzone. Both my Niece and her boyfriend enjoyed their meals. He had the Chicken Parm and my Niece had the Vegetarian Pie with no cheese. The service was really good and it is always more enjoyable when the staff feels like they want to be there. The only negative was parking, but nothing a 2 minute walk would not solve. Definite return-to place.More

Neat local place with unique charm and really tasty food. Tried the Chicago style pie and Calzone on our first visit and left happy and stuffed with lots in our to go boxes. The marinara sauce was flavorful and the garlic knots don't have too...much garlic butter like some other places. Service was friendly too. We'll definitely be back!More

Hubs and I shared a greek salad and their specialty meat and fruit (pineapple) pizza. Both were delicious and the prices were reasonable. Probably one of the best pizzas we have ever had! Waitress was excellent!

Very Stingy with the tomato sauce on two items: Chicken Parmesan and Meatball Sandwich. Told them about this three times and they ignored me and continued doing this.

We visited this restaurant with friends and was pleasantry suprised with the atmosphere and the wait staff. We ordered pizza's, a calzone and another specialty dish. The timing was spot on when all of our dishes came at the same time. We enjoyed the atmosphere...where you could actually hold a conversation with having to yell. The only drawback was a smallish parking lot.More
