We needed a break today and decided on Mambo’s Cuban Cafe for a change of pace. This will not be our last trip. The food was fabulous. Due to COVID, we had takeout. The smell alone was heavenly on the way home. And the food...did not disappoint. Servings were plentiful as well. Two out of three have enough left for dinner.....More

Located in a strip mall, this rather large restaurant is easily accessible from adjacent parking. No reservation required. The tables have no linen, bare without place mats. The decor and atmosphere are casual. The menu is varied with vegetarian, seafood, meat and poultry options. The...plantane snacks are very addictive. Service is friendly, less attentive. All the food looked and tasted good. A pleasant experience for casual dining.More

Whenever we visit Jacksonville we go to Mambos. The food is so flavorful! Cafe con leche! We’ve never had a bad meal or even mediocre. The food is just great and the restaurant is spotless!

They have THE BEST Churrasco a la Parilla ....I order it almost every time I eat here. Get it with the fried yuca! It is SO good. My husband loves their Lechon Asado. The food is always spot on!

The dinner experience was different tonight than it has been the three or four times in the last year or two that I've been there. I ordered arroz con pollo which I ordered every time I was there in the past. There were fewer pieces...of plaintain, (the sweet sauteed bananas). I think black beans came with the entree in the past but tonight I had to order it as a side dish. The piece of chicken that came with the arroz was an embarrassment! It seemed to be part of the lower back with an unsightly odd shaped bone sticking out the end of it and it didn't have the usual amount of meat. The bill was what really disturbed me. The $12 for the arroz con pollo, and $1.50 for the black beans was fine. Just what the menu said. But I was also charged $1.00 for a "Custom item" and $0.50 for yellow rice. The total with tax should have been $14.45 but with their extra charges it was $16.05 I had no "custom item", and the arroz con pollo which is premade is a mixture of yellow rice and chicken. That's how it comes. I didn't specify yellow or white rice. The server said that was the way their cash register was set up to print the bill. My friend ordered an upgrade of white chicken instead of dark meat chicken and was charged an extra $6. That struck me as excessive. The food was tasty, but because of the problem with the bill I'm giving a rating of 1 star.More

Had dinner at Mambos last night and it was very good. Friendly attentive staff. Lots of choices for entrees, even though we aren’t super familiar with Cuban fare we all found something we enjoyed. Our daughter really liked the garlic shrimp. Thanks for a good...meal!More

Well, of course I over- ordered. The chicharones de pollo with congri (Moorish rice) was amazing. Also very amazing was this pollo aguido which was breast breaded and pan friend like a chicken Milanese but just slightly better (of course) (BTW the best chicken Milanese...in the city is Casa de Oro next to the Florida Theatre- all of the artists and celebrities who have performed there over the years order from Casa de Oro), on the weekends they have this amazing soup call Sancocho which is super hearty and served with toasted buttered Cuban Bread, I also ordered masas de puerco frito with Congri rice, pollo asado (roasted chicken) and tostones and yuca. They do not offer batidos (milk shakes) on their menu but the Mambo Express in Tinseltown does!!!More

I travel to Jacksonville frequently and I always make it a point to eat at Mambos while I’m here. I have never been dissatisfied. The menu has a large variety to choose from, generous servings and always excellent.

I'm a former employee. Their paycheck bounced, then when I went to get my money from them they fired me in front of everyone including customers. The BOH manager was always insulting me in front of other employees, said I was lazy and this and...that but there were days where I ran the kitchen by myself, and always worked fantastic when he wasn't there! They don't do food safety or common sense pretty much, cutting raw chicken next to fully prepared cooked meats. They had a huge roach problem. They only paid $11.50 with promise of a raise after a month then instead of a raise try to give you more hours... The hours were horrible they stretch 30 hours over 6 days with only one day off a week, then call you to get you to come in on that 1 day off. No overtime pay because of how they schedule you vs. their pay! Just an overall awful place to work!!! The BOH manager will literally run this business into the grown, and the owner doesn't care about anything. The BOH manager, the woman who handles pay, the owner... they're all very close making this an impossible place if you have a problem!More

We recently moved to Florida from Cleveland, Ohio and came upon Mambos. Cleveland has great food, but is not known for its Cuban sandwiches. The Cuban sandwiches were delicious, fresh bread and large portions. The portions were so large that we took half home. We...enjoyed our food, the atmosphere and the friendly wait staff which added to the experience. We will return!More
