Four of us dined here with high expectations that were unmet. I know it is a school and the waiters and chefs are learning but there should have been supervision so the servers knew how to take orders and get the food to the table at the appropriate times. It is expensive so we expected more professional serivce and better... More

Tiny portions of inedible, overcooked fare made this meal a disaster at an institution renowned for turning out chefs.

Can not beat the setting. This Ristorante Caterina de' Mednici, at the CIA is in a great building with the interior warm and inviting. Prices are what you would pay for a very nice meal. Easy to park. Started out with the iPad listing the variety of drinks from cocktails to wine to beer and more. Bread arrived at the... More

Was up visiting FDR 's home and stopped at the Culinary Institute for dinner. Made reservations about a month in advance and glad I did. The meal was amazing. I had the risotto with squid ink and cuttlefish which was beyond amazing. And the eggplant was wonderful . Service was wonderful! So glad I came!

This was our first time trying the Italian restaurant at the CIA and really enjoy the entire experience. All of their restaurants are "teaching" meaning the student are working at the restaurant as part of a class. They spend 1/2 the class working the "front of the house" as servers and 1/2 in the "back" as chefs. We've been to... More

Three of us went here for dinner on a Monday night. What can you say? It's the Culinary Institute so nothing can go wrong. Reasonably priced, outstanding food, great student service. The wine list is extensive, but your CIA student server is well-versed and will give a great suggestion. The menu changes, but all three dinners and raspberry dessert were... More

It was a nice meal, but not as special as I expected. Had a good fish entree. First course salad was fine. Service was very inexperienced. I assume he was a very new student. He was puzzled when we asked him to tell us about a dish. (Long silence, then "what do you want to know?"). He brought a bottle... More

The menu selections are inventive, beautifully plated and the right size. No one walks out with a styrofoam box! Prices are a little on the high side but not outrageous. Our student waitress was not up to the job, though we later learned it was her first night serving and, for all her mixups, our desserts were comped. We felt... More

I was a student at the Culinary Institute of America when this restaurant was fairly new and I remember it being very good. I took my family to this place after having talked it up for years. Thank God we had gone to the school's Bocuse restaurant the night before because if this had been their first impression of the... More

This is one of the student run CIA restaurants, so I know its not professional. The servers were very polite, but there seemed to be a lot of them roaming around and several different people attended our table and our main server was not around a lot. When we asked him questions about the menu he wasn't very clear with... More
