We visit the Inn every 3-4 months and also were married in Gettysburg. DIANE IS THE BEST!! She is so welcoming and always ensures we are very well taken care of, even leaving a warm plate of cookies in our room for an afternoon snack! We consider the Inn an extension of our home and would never stay anywhere else in Gettysburg. We have stayed in many different rooms and they are all wonderful. The restaurant is great as well, Jess is a wonderful server! We look forward to many wonderful stays in the years to come! Amanda & Scott Kushik

Chef Willy did an outstanding job with our club function. His Tuscan Chicken and pasta with Vodka sauce are heavenly.

Ate in the bar next door to the main inn as the main inn is closed for dinner. Staff was friendly and working hard. The food was bad. Maybe getting just a burger or sandwich would be fine, but those are available anywhere in downtown Gettysburg. Not worth the short drive out there to try to get a decent meal. We had two different entries, both bad.

My partner and I decided to give this place a try for our anniversary dinner. We saw their prix fixe menu online and thought it sounded really good. It ended up being much better than we expected. The best dish of the night was hands down the brie appetizer. The cheese itself was so smooth and creamy, it was the best brie I have ever tasted. The accompanying apple compote was sweet and delicious, my partner (who doesn't like brie as much as I do) kept trying to steal the food off my plate. Sidenote, the brie appetizer is huge, it's definitely enough to share. All other dishes were also delicious, but even more notable than the food was the service. Our waitress was great and made for a fun conversation, and the sommelier was amazing. We took the wine pairing to go along with our prix fixe. The sommelier paired different wines according to each dish we selected (giving each one of us different wines when we selected different dishes) and sometimes even gave us two different options to compare the different flavors you get from each wine with the dish. When we liked a certain wine, he brought the bottle over for us to take a picture of it and told us where to find it and how much the bottle usually runs for. He recommend good wines that are coming up this season, and generally was just super nice and helpful. Amazing service from everyone at this restaurant. We will definitely be back.

This restaurant was sitting around 12th best in Gettysburg when we visited. Should be top3, at least. It’s our #1! The baked brie small/starter dish was/is HUH-maxing! Gotta try it! Caesar salad was great. Dressing was light and spot on. Fresh romaine, great croutons, just the right amount of cheese. Crab bisque was amazing as well. Super creamy and buttery. Lots of crab! The pork chop dish through me for a twist. The bone in chop was cooked perfect and so juicy! The twist was the beans, tomato, Porto belly mixture it rested on. I’m used to mashed potatoes but this was a welcome change that worked. This was the only dish I seasoned but I use a A LOT of salt. They don’t have salt and pepper on the table and I can attest the chef is spot on with his seasoning. Finally, the crime brûlée. SO creamy, rich, and smooth! Great way to end the meal. I did the wine pairing with the price fixed menus and so glad I did! Great deal and the sommelier was awesome! Super personable and down to conversation on the wine. Get by this restaurant and give it a try!

An interesting place that will take you back in time. Our lunch was tasty and was topped off by an inspired dessert. We had great service. The property is old and needs some attention to details and a good freshening up. Our meal was fine, but not memorable, a fish dish (on a Friday) with a starter course of baked brie and a salad and finished with a rich and well-presented dessert. It might be fun with a great group of friends. they also have a country roadhouse bar across the parking lot that has a large event space at both the Inn and attached to the roadhouse bar. It was the little details like the parking stops that were out of whack and other aspects of the property that made me think that it needs more attention all around.

We went to the restaurant for My birthday, as we had been there last year for the first time and loved it. This dinner turned out to be very disappointing The service was extremely slow even though it was a Wednesday night and only a few tables were occupied. There was a very long wait between courses and several times when we needed something, such as butter and salt and pepper, there was no one to ask for quite a while. The butternut squash soup was so thick that we could stand our spoons up in it, and was very under seasoned. (Hence the need for salt and pepper. The spinach salad had frozen strawberries in it, which is inexcusable. The dressing had very little taste. The crab cake was passable, with no lump crab meat. It was not comparable to your typical Maryland crab cake. The slaw served with it was tasteless. My husband did like his fried oysyers! The server never once asked how any of the food tasted. Sadly we won’t be going back.

Thank you for your review. We welcome all reviews. We are a fine dining restaurant and like to give a dining experience. We do not turn over tables. Your table is yours for the evening. If any of our guests prefer a faster pace evening we will gladly accommodate and we also have a casual dining restaurant on premise that is a much faster pace. There are several rooms in our restaurant for dining and sometimes may seem that we have no other tables here when in fact we have several. We also, have a very strict timing log and all of our tickets are timed throughout the evening. We only use fresh ingredients. Never frozen, especially strawberries. We pick them up daily. Our chef makes all of our dishes to order. Nothing is ever pre made. If any of our guests do not not the way our dishes are prepared our chef is more than happy to prepare it differently for each guests taste.

We were so excited to try out this restaurant after looking over the menu online. The place also looked charming; well, the place IS charming, but the food is terrible. Our waitress, Tracy, was the bright light in an otherwise disappointing evening. Any food that tasted good was not made in the kitchen! (Re: cheese and cheesecake) The main courses we ordered were smoked lamb - it had no flavor but smoke - salmon was inedible, and the pork chop was completely raw on one side. I hope it was an off night for the chef, but we won’t be back again to test it out. Too much cash for poor quality food.

Thank you for your review. All of our dishes are prepared fresh and made to order. We have on the menu the Nine-Hour braised Lamb Shank not a smoked lamb shank. Our lamb is braised for 9 hours in root vegetables, tomatoes, demi-glaze, and malbec wine. The lamb is one of our very popular dishes. We are more than happy to replace any item on the menu for you that does not fit your taste. Our salmon dish is a Miso Yaki Salmon which is marinated, but again the chef is more than happy to cook the salmon to your taste and not marinated. We work very hard to treat each guest special and accommodate each individuals taste. The chef prepares his pork chop medium so that it doesn't dry out, but are more than happy to cook it longer if a guest would like. Thank you for the great review on our service. Our staff is very well trained and always makes sure our guests leave happy.

We had eaten here a few years ago and enjoyed the meal, but I can only assume they're having issues with the kitchen staff lately. My wife decided to treat me to a nice birthday dinner, but it was anything but a pleasant experience. It took 70 minutes from the time we gave our order until the meal was served. The entrees were way overcooked and dried out, basically ruined. We did inform the server, who was very apologetic, and to their credit the restaurant made amends which took some of the sting out of the bad experience. But sadly the Inn at Herr Ridge has gone downhill, which saddens me. Aside from the poor quality of the cooking, we thought the restaurant was overpriced. I hope they can make improvements and return to being one of the better Gettysburg restaurants.

Thank you for your review. We have had the same kitchen staff for several years and our chef also has been with us for several years and is very good at what he does. He takes pride in every dish that is sent out to our guests. Our restaurant is a fine dining restaurant and we like to give our guests a "dining experience" with the finest wines to offer our guests. If any of our guests would like an expedited service we are more than happy to accommodate. We do not rush our guests in any way between courses. Again, we are more than happy to accommodate in any way. The timing was right as we check all of our timed tickets and keep accurate records to make sure our guests do not feel rushed or too slow.

We were spending the weekend in Gettysburg and were looking for a fine dining experience. The restaurant here bills itself as "fine dining" and even offered a prix fixe menu and extensive wine list. Those along with the "excellent" reviews I read prompted me to book a reservation for our one dinner on our weekend away. While many people may think this is fine dining, if you are a foodie and truly frequent fine dining restaurants in larger cities, this will be disappointing. The "charm" of the old battlefield hospital is fine (though not my personal taste) and the white table cloths help give the illusion of fine dining. We had a waitress in training who was absolutely lovely, but her trainer did not have good communication with her (and seemed a little frazzled anyway) and more than once came over to our table to tell us the exact same thing the server in training had just said. We began our meal by ordering a bottle of prosecco which took about 25 minutes to arrive at the table because it needed to be fetched from the wine cellar and then chilled to the appropriate temperature (it was not chilled to the appropriate temperature). To our server in training's credit, however, she was apologetic and kept us well informed as to why the process was taking so long. She also asked -- before we had finished the first bottle -- if we planned on getting a second bottle so she could have it chilled on time. Very considerate of her! My husband and I both ordered the prix fixe menu which included an appetizer, salad or soup, entree, and dessert for $55. On the positive side, the portions were more than generous. We started with the crab cake which ended up being a full sized crab cake (we're from Maryland and know the good stuff) and it was delicious! My brie cheese appetizer was okay, but burnt on the top. My ceasar salad was underwhelming and desperately needed more dressing while my husband enjoyed his roasted vegetable salad which had a melt-in-your-mouth goat cheese on it. My entree was a lamb shank, which was on the bone and, again, HUGE! It was accompanied by a "risotto" which was really more like a cheesy rice. The lamb shank needed salt so badly...it was in a rich sauce that had no flavor, despite its good looks. There was no salt on the table so I had to wait for a waitress to appear to ask for some, and even then, it (disappointingly) did not help the flavor much. My husband's filet and potato also needed salt and had a tired presentation. We took our cheesecake's to go and enjoyed them -- they seemed to be homemade! Overall, we would not return as we know for the price we paid, we could get a lot more quality elsewhere.

Thank you for your review. We have an extensive wine cellar with 6,000 bottles of wine as we have one of the few "Best Of" award winning wine cellars in Pennsylvania. We keep our cellar at the appropriate temperature and cannot chill all of our white wines as it would be impossible. Our Chef takes great care with all of our dishes and are prepared as ordered for each of our guests. Fine dining restaurants do not typically put salt and pepper on the table. As everyone has different tastes, chefs prepare dishes to their taste and if salt and pepper are needed by any guest we are more than happy to accommodate.

We arrived planning to eat light, but on arrival it was such a neat setting we decided to go with the prix fixe dinner for 2. Average rating here was 4.5, so we were excited. I can only hope our experience was on a night where the chef was away, but everything we got was substantially below par (except dessert). Meat/cheese board had 3 kinds of cheese I would expect to get in a standard grocery store, one of which tasted almost ‘off’, and the grapes were all badly browning, with meats, mustards, pecans (ok). We said nothing. Next came a salad that would have been great but the lettuce included some wilted & slimy bits throughout, killed our confidence. Pointed it out to the server. Crab corn chowder was like canned soup but with a nice square of cheese melted on top. Fish was overcooked and lamb/risotto was pretty flavorless. Overall it was as if the past reviews were for some other place, so hopefully this was just a bad night. But it was bad. Kitchen needs some oversight re spoilage. We were happy with our server, very friendly.

We appreciate all reviews so thank you for your review as we take all of them into consideration. Our chef orders all of our food fresh everyday and our charcuterie board is served with nothing but the finest ingredients and cheeses. We order them special for our boards and are far from "grocery store" brands. Our crab and corn chowder is also made fresh everyday from scratch and has been a staple in our restaurant for many years and is one of our best selling and favorite dishes from our guests. We are very glad to hear that our server was very friendly as we train our staff very well and expect them to treat every guest special.
