My wife and I went to Jimmy Buff's on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago for an Italian Sausage sandwich with fried potatoes, peppers and onions. I was not disappointed. The sandwich was great. I'm not sure what the bread is called, but it is basically cut into half a circle and then stuffed with the sausage, hot dogs etc. I haven't seen this kind of bread used anywhere else since I was a kid. With social distancing we had to wait in the car while our order was prepared. You can order ahead, but they only take cash. The person in the car next to me told me that they had driven an hour to go to Jimmy's. They beat me, I only drove 45 minutes. I grew up in Belleville NJ in the 60's & 70's. Everyone went to Jackie's Lemon Ice stand near Belleville Ave for the Italian hot dog and the Italian sausage sandwiches. Jimmy Buff's is the closet thing I can do to go back in time to my childhood and get a great sandwich. This time I ordered a double sausage. Next time I'll get the double hot dog.

Jimmy Buff’s has been in business for over 90 years. The current owner is the great, great, great grandson of the founder. The specialty is hot dogs or sausages (or both) on a soft roll with grill onions, green peppers, mustard and fried potatoes on top. I’m not big on potatoes on my sandwich, but I just took them off and ate them separately and they were very good. We shared a double with sausage, which is really as large as a single. They are delicious and unique. I’d get double the onions and peppers the next time. Staff is very friendly and appreciated our business.

Ate her one day when I was in the area on business.
Very engaging and attentive staff who wanted to know where my co-workers were from since she had not seen us in there before.
Reminds me of a place in my hometown that was a hangout when I was in college.
So glad the front desk person at the Courtyard told us about this place.
Shocked to fin dout that this place hasn't been featured on Food Network's Diners Drive Inns and Dives.

We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon right when they opened at noon. For some reason I was expecting a crowd but the parking lot was empty. Interior was clean and seating area closed off due to Covid. Placing our order was easy (cash only). After a 10 min wait outside we picked up our food (single hot dog and a double combo). The food looked great (and huge) and we couldn't wait to dig in. The potatoes were perfect and the star of the show for me. The sausage was very flavorful and kind of made the hot dog take the back seat as I couldn't really taste it next to the sausage (I would personally just have a double sausage with extra potatoes next visit). Despite the fact that I don't like ketchup I followed everyone's advice and got a little ketchup...turns out that they were right. For some reason I was really looking forward to the bread as it has been described in so many ways online as kind of a pizza bread and I think it built up my expectations up to an unachievable level. The bread was very good (soft and fresh) but it just wasn't what I had expected. To me it tasted like regular Italian bread...just shaped differently (which is perfect fine!).
Overall we enjoyed everything we had and would definitely eat here again if we were in the area.

I stopped down the old neighborhood yesterday so I had to swing past Jimmy Buff's and grab a double combo to take home it was as delicious as it was 35 years ago when I was a child, they have all covid-19 precautions in place plexiglass, gloves, I felt very safe enjoying my Italian hot dog from Jimmy Buff's. Go get one!!

I've been coming to Jimmy Buffs since I was a teenager. I am now 73 years old and the Hot Dogs still taste the same. I'm not supposed to eat them, but today I cheated. Well worth it.

If you adore hot dogs, this place is for you. Every kind imaginable with all the fixings. Soft rooms or buns. Have it - like you want it. Crowded at busy times. Huge truckers and workmen stop. Been a gem in this location for years.

Soo disappointed for the first time in all my years of going here. The roll was so old dry i had a combo and it was not good. Sausage peppers n hotdog were but the rest made it so hard to enjoy. I had to throw out the roll n pototes. Must always have fresh rolls very shocked!

Unique place. Very big sandwiches piled on with hot dogs, potatoes, peppers, onions, etc. A big fav for us. Very filling. Small place, not many seats.

Ok look. Its a tiny joint on a back street with limited parking and seating. Whoop te do....
They make their bread in a ring cut in half and split for a double. Quatered and split for a single. Burid dogs covered with onions and peppers then topped with fried potatoes. Sheeeesh! A NJ original.

Popular take-out restaurant in West Orange. You can enjoy an Italian roll stuffed with the good old fashion Italian hotdog with sauteed peppers and onions, and fried potatoes. This is not what my doctor would approve for me to eat, but it is a delicious combo sandwich, which I call my best hoggie Italian style sandwich. It's satisfying for a big lunch and then my retiree afternoon siesta.

Darn good Italian Hotdog!! Seen this place talked about on TV.. And while in the West Orange area decided to seek it out. Well worth it, great sandwich and nice people! My only complaint is I prefer my potatoes smaller! Can’t wait to try the sausage next time in the area.

I started coming to this place as a kid with my mom and my grandma. Although it's really small you always feel welcome. They have the best potatoes on Earth! There is nothing like a Jimmy Buff's hot dog with everything on it, the bread is delicious. My grandmother moved to PA 14 years ago and I still stop in there to grab a sandwich when I'm on my way to her house, it's a little piece of home for her.
