Went to the tavern on a Saturday night with a friend before a show. Service was attentive and helpful answering questions. Nice, relaxed venue. It was crowded but not too noisy.
Pretty standard French bistro offerings, but several with a little ‘flair’ to them. We ordered escargot and oysters as appetizers. The oysters came with a little bit of trout roe and cream fraiche. Really nice touch. Excellent.
For entrees, we ordered the duck breast and scallops. Duck was the most tender we’ve ever had. Really excellent, and came with risotto and butternut squash. Scallops were tender and tasty, presentation pretty basic as it was accompanied with only a simple salad frisée.
Ordered a cheese plate for dessert. Four selections with a mix of cow, sheep and goat. Nice way to finish a meal.
We found the wine by the glass and beer offerings a bit limited. Nevertheless, we will definitely return and sample other menu offerings (and the duck if it’s offered again).

This is a smallish intimate neighbourhood restaurant. Food was very good but I think the highlight of the evening is the friendliness of the staff….definitely will come back here next time we visit Philadelphia. Very nice menu along with some interesting cocktails and wine by the glass and bottle.

A unique little bar and restaurant in south Philly! Great for cocktails and tasty shareables. There is also a wine bar upstairs for a after dinner cocktail.

Was average (not bad but not great). Beer, service and atmosphere were really good. Super small and super expensive apps were not good. Burger was OK, not great and fries, which I heard were good but average to me, at best. Overall a pricey meal for OK to average food. A $6 fee for using our credit card was a greedy move and won't be back.

The Good King Tavern, located on a corner a block off South Street, is popular and crowded even on weeknights, so we were happy to get a table in the dimly-lit back room. Service was somewhat slow because our server was constantly moving at a trot to keep up with her tables and it was hard to catch her eye; maybe adding staff could improve this. The rest of our experience was very good. Escargots, tagliatelle with mushrooms, Swiss chard croquettes and the burger were all very nicely prepared and tasty. Duck of the night (there always is one listed on the chalkboard outside the front door) was confit, a bit too rich for us but still good. Our cocktails were especially well made -- they and the cozy atmosphere were the best aspects of our dinner here.

We came in on a cold night, and the creaky wood floors and wonderful food charmed us. The service was great, and so were the cocktails.

For dinner we had cocktails and wine and get ordering small plates till we were filled. Love eating this way and it’s a good place for this. The main negative is that the food and dining area are just a little rough/raw for the price tag. The food is fun but has a tavern/bistro feel that doesn’t deserve the price. The sunchokes in duck fat were yummy like having fancy chips. The salad was yummy. Service was very bright and helpful.

This was a pretty cool experience they had a lot going on with flavors of the food and presentation with interesting drinks to choose from. Our adult family had a great time sampling different craft cocktails and appetizers. With both indoor/outdoor seating and our really good server, we are certain to return here again. Try the tomato appetizer dish for sure. I think it may have been just a special, definitely ask about it.

Short couple of days in Philly and spent some time finding a restaurant that we would both love. FOUND it. Husband started with a drink, a sazarac. It was perfect, I had to try it because he was raving. I had the rose wine with the help of our server, and it was so good I had two of them. Husband had the steak fritte which he loved. I had the tomatoes provencal, so so good, it was very well done. I then had the mussels so very well prepared and flavorful. They came with french fries. OMG I could not stop eating them, I'm not sure what they do to them but I assure you they are addictive. Excellent food and exceptional service in a casual atmosphere. Wish they would add a restaurant in Wilmington because I would be there every week. Cannot wait to go back to this one.

Found this place on the walk back to the hotel as a rest-stop and went back for dinner that night after reading the menu. All these vacations roaming the streets of Philly and only discovered this place now - where have you been all my life? FABULOUS food, friendly service - just a great place to be.
I had the duck, my son had the rabbit and my mother-in-law LOVED her omelet. And really, when was the last time anyone - ever - raved about an omelet. That's how good it was. Delicious.

This place is my new favorite! Everything... I mean e-v-e-r-y detail was met with the utmost strive...arrived to perfection. Started with escargot. The tender snail with a delicious sauce made me want to lick the plate! Then the duck wings. OMG!! I didn't even expect to really like them because of the "orange" glaze. But there was such a layering of spices and flavors...brilliantly executed! The Jordan Artichokes were delightful. Nice texture and very tasty. The steak was perfectly done, medium rare and the flavor of the sauce with the nicely crisp frites... could not stop eating! And let me tell you that you will not be disappointed if you order a cocktail! We had a few and they were fantastic!
I loved the food, drinks, service, staff, and decore! Congratulations on winning for everything that goes with a dining experience! Applause!!!

On a beautiful day, I stopped for dinner and sat at a table outside. The four tables in the area and rice that were full. The server was it attentive throughout the meal. She had some very helpful suggestions and knew the menu well. I started With the very tasty soup and had the special, pork pane, which has been on the menu as pork schnitzel. I chose it over the burger because it seemed to be more work for the chef and something that I could not do myself. It rewarded me with wonderful flavor.
I’ve been here before, several months ago, and plan to go again.

Dined at the Good King last night and enjoyed a bit of French change of pace from the usual East Coast grilled or fried seafood. Did a little mix and match with cream/fennel mussels, green salad, foie gras, and a half dozen oysters. Oysters are a great deal at a dollar each for happy hour. Well-chosen wine by the glass with several good French options. Excellent service includes sparkling water.

In town, visiting old friend who suggested this place. Great, little corner restaurant, very nice bar and friendly staff. The food was excellent, the menu is limited, which I prefer, and there were plenty of specials. I'd say the food leans toward French? But maybe more eclectic. We really enjoyed everything. Excellent service!
