Darker and dingier than most, but, about what you would expect, and want from the Olde Ale House. Nice selection of excellent local beers and friendly staff help offset the cuisine. I only tried the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich (it's Philly after all), but, it was just OK, and it came with a bag of chips, but a nice dill pickle.

We've been here twice and had a great time! Wings are excellent, lots of beer options on draft. We sampled various local beers in this museum like pub. You can spend forever just checking out all the stuff hanging on the dark wooded walls. It's just a cool spot to see while downtown, it's near the market and the city... More

We visited prior to Christmas. We loved the decor and sat by the fireplace. The place was packed and the music was loud and football was on the tv. We waited about 10 minutes for a table and sat at the bar. They had plenty of beers on tap and inexpensive too! I loved the nachos and the reuben. They... More

We had heard of McGiilian's for quite some time and thought we would stop for lunch. Beer selection is great. The waitress we had was friendly but seemed very scattered. Food was below average for sure. When we were there the atmosphere was warm and fun until you looked up- there was a bucket hanging from the ceiling to catch... More

The atmosphere here is amazing, it was certainly a great pub feel. All of the employees were very friendly, however when we went, they were a little short staffed despite not being full, I will chock that up to a single day issue. The beer was delicious, with a great selection, the biggest issue was the food. It isn't bad,... More

Have been here a couple times. The atmosphere is always great and the beer good. The food is on the shabby side, I have never tried the same thing more than once because I have never had any food that I would recommend. I only come here because new comers to the city always want to try out one of... More

McGillin's was a spectacular stop on our night out in Philly. Touted as being the oldest continuously running bar in Philadelphia, it was quite an experience. Yes it was crowded and noisy but that's half of the fun. Our visit was just prior to Christmas so they had holiday drinks on the menu and festive decorations up. Would 100% go... More

Come here for the old timey saloon atmosphere, plentiful portions of home style food prepared with fresh ingridients, and the wide variety of booze and beer. This is one happy place. People come here to chill with friends, colleagues, and dates. My buddy and I met here for lunch and were not disappointed. This is not fine dining, yet you will... More

Went here for the first time on a Thursday evening around 8 pm and it was already very lively! The decor was awesome and fully decked out in classic Christmas decorations. There are two levels to the place and they were both very active and had good music. We ended up just ordering drinks at the bar and got their... More

I first stepped inside this old Ale House in the Autumn of 1979 as a young grad student at Penn. I was told by the friend who took me there that it was "the oldest continually operating Irish Pub in the city." I guess that's true. I don't really know. But it looked old back then and it hasn't changed... More

John: How great to hear that you've been coming here for more than 30 years and still enjoy it. We are, in fact, the oldest continuously operating tavern in Philadelphia and one of the oldest in the country. Hope you'll continue to come for the next 30 years. Cheers! More
