Sorry, wanted to love it, but the place is tired and prices aren't exactly a great deal for your buck. The steak sandwhiches themselves are below average; honestly I have had better tasting Philly cheese steaks in a food court; they just don't taste that great and lack flavour. The place is a cash cow though and they only accept... More

If you are in the mood to pay for cook staff to be EXTREMELY, RUDE, CONDENSENDING, & belligerent than this is the place for you! When I asked the girl that was in charge of putting the hot peppers, on to my sandwich she grabbed a handful of peppers & then MASHED them into my sandwich. When my daughter asked... More

It's always distressing to lose customers, especially when they seem determined to drive others away as well. Ordinarily, I'd remind myself "the customer is always right" and get to work fixing any mistakes we made. But while it may make no difference now, I feel I should reply for the simple fact your review differs so significantly (in both tone... More

Put jims somewhere else and they go out of business. I have no idea why people visit philly and think they should go here. It is not good! Even I got suckered into going here a few times. The lines are there because of location and hype.

The cheesesteak sandwiches were excellent. This was recommended to us by a local and we were so happy we listened! There was no wait when we got there and everything tasted very fresh.

The cheesesteaks were very, very good. The line was out the door. Service was excellent and friendly. Tables were crowded. We had to stand for awhile until something opened up. In my opinion they could of cleaned up the bathroom. I walked in and turned around and walked right back out. But maybe I'm just too particular.

I had done the research asked a handful of people and almost all told me this was where locals go to eat Phillies. We waited in line for about 20 minutes, ordered the wiz, with peppers and mushrooms. Wanted to get back in line when I was done, glad I didn't the heartburn would have been worse...my fault as I... More

OK, we're prejudiced....Jim's Steaks is the best Philly Cheesesteak period. Best bread, best beef, best whiz, best onions, best canned soft drinks....stop here and see why Genos and Pats are just cheesesteaks....

The absolute best Philly Cheesesteak ever. Meat is really thin, not fatty, full of flavor and you see the guys making the cheesesteaks right in front of you. I never get cheesesteaks from anywhere else but Jim's.

Was at the Liberty Bell and walked down to Jim's for the cheesesteak. There was a line of about 40 people winding out the front door but I decided to wait in the line. I was served within 10 minutes and sat upstairs which had plenty of seating (the turner is quick). Three of us had the cheesesteak- one with... More

This was the best cheesesteak I've ever had (though next time I'll get more onions and extra cheese). The line wrapped outside the building's corner, but it was completely worth it. It's cash only, so be prepared for that. My only complaint is that my entire party reeked of fried onions and beef for the duration of the evening, to... More

THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.
