On the corner of South St and 4th. This is where the locals go and it's the best! Don't be discouraged by the lines at Jim's Steaks. They move really fast. From order to pay was less than 3 minutes, really. One guy takes and fills your sandwich order, the next lady gets your drink (they serve soda in bottles... More

It was good, nicely chopped steak. Come in ready to order. I thought the cheesesteak was good. I recommend getting it with whiz. others in my group did not and they didn't like it as much. Also, I saw 2 people have to go to the atm. Please note, cash only!

I set out to test Jim's, Pat's and Geno's steaks "wit wiz". Jim's was the best; beautifully chopped meat, soft bun, LOTS of sweet, browned onions and plenty of wiz!

Be prepared to stand in line inside and around the corner. Seating upstairs, but no saving while others in your party are in line. Drinks are bottled. We ordered one/whiz/without (one cheesesteak with cheese whiz without onions). Melt in your mouth. Highly recommend it.

Cruising on South street today and our cabbie asks if we're going to have a Philly Cheese Steak. "Yep, we're looking forward to the famous ones" and he said "if you want really authentic local cheese steaks you gotta try Jim's on South street Now our cabbie is 59 and has lived in Philly all his life so who are... When we arrived there was a line out the door, around the corner and then three loops once you were inside. It did move fairly quickly, given the number of people, but it was still a wait. My friend ordered a steak with mushrooms and peppers and I ordered a pizza steak with fried onions. We both chose provolone cheese.... More

I remember it being a lot better than that. No long wait for me, which should have been a clue. It was very very greasy, and had little to no taste that I could tell. I used to think this was the place, but I guess not anymore.

OMG. We have been going to this place for years. Jim's has the best cheese steaks in Philly hands down. They get busy but the line moves pretty quickly. We highly recommend. A legend on South Street.

If you visit Philadelphia, you must eat a cheesesteak! Jim's makes one of the best. It's all part of the experience : finding your way to South street, locating a parking spot ( we got a $36 parking ticket ), waiting in line around the corner, learning how to order, watching the process and then enjoying your cheesesteak. It's all... More

THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.
