You might want a steak sandwich for breakfast, maybe lunch or say dinner...anytime you go to Jim's, your sure to get a steak that's more than filling. The steak is chopped, the rolls are soft and you have your choice of cheeses, toppings, etc. If you are on South Street or your just looking to get a really delicious steak... More

Jim's Steaks, despite its Art Deco exterior, is actually kind of easy to miss. This is especially true if you're looking for a place similar to those other two places across the street from one another. But because Jim's has an inside, you won't see the line unless it's so long that it's actually managed to run out the door.... More

Disappointed in the quality of the meat and lack of seasoning in the cheesesteak. Crowded place, but I still think over rated. Definitely not 4 or 5 stars.

We asked around for a good Philly cheesesteak and the short walk from the liberty bell was totally worth it ! The line moved quickly. There's seating up stairs. The bread was fresh and soft. The sandwich was amazing ! Upstairs seating if you go straight back from the register. Bathrooms available. Price point was great too! Appeared to be... More

We had one day in Philadelphia and we wanted Cheese Steaks. We decided to ask a few locals and one of the most common answers we got was Jim's. This place doesn't have to advertise at all, it's got word of mouth locked solid. The guard near the Liberty Bell told us that we could walk there no problem, and... More

This is hands down the best cheese steak place in Philly..!! I've been coming for years and it's very consistent. Just the visit is a unique experience most days. There's often a line around the corner and once inside you can see the guys cooking the steaks to order. It's hard to believe how much steak they go through while... More

My niece did the research so we SO coolly ordered "Whiz, with" which means cheesesteak with cheese whiz with grilled onions. And we didn't order our beverage from the grill man ( major faux pas) but waited for the next server. Really, it was SO good! Huge sandwich. Fed the two of us just fine. Ate upstairs overlooking the street... More

Jim's Steaks South Street is in an old Art Deco building. You wait in line to place your order with the cook who then makes it and hands it to the person who collects your money. They don't accept credit cards. I then walked upstairs to eat. The cheesesteak was large and filling but I wasn't that thrilled with the... More

Original review lost in submission!! Visited Philadelphia & wanted to try the much talked about "Philly cheesesteak sandwich". Jim's Steaks was suggested. Unique black tiled & silver art-deco shop frontage located on South Street which is apparently dubbed the "Hippest Street in Town". This venue certainly is busy & our 1st time experiencing a fast food outlet of this kind.... More

The food was great. First visit ended up getting a whiz with mushrooms no onions. Funny is that the guy on the grill told me I would miss out by not having the grilled onions. I had to decline being that I'm not fond of the onion, but it did smell great. I also asked for hot peppers on the... More

THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.
