One of our requirements for visiting Philadelphia was to have an actual Philly Cheesesteak. Jim's was very good. We did have to wait in line for about 20 minutes, but the line was a lot longer by the time we left. The food was good, but I felt rushed to order my food and get out of the way. Luckily... More

Lives up to its reputation. Absolutely delicious and a great atmosphere. We were so glad we didn't split a sandwich.... Too good to share!

My family went for to enjoy a classic Philly cheesesteak with my daughter's out of town boyfriend. We had to wait in line for about 20-30 minutes, but it was well worth it! Best cheesesteaks in Philly!

My husband visits Jim's every time we come to Philadelphia. He loves it and swears it's better than the other two, more famous cheesesteak places in the city. There may be long lines, but they'll move quickly. It can be tough to get a seat upstairs, so you may have to stand but the food is really worth it.

So I asked where the best philly cheesesteak in town is and walked 20 blocks to Jim's… After feeling frustrated that they told me "no going upstairs to get a seat without food", they had a hangry customer to impress. They did impress! The food, staff, and seat mates were SO WORTH staying for!!! The cheesesteak was delicious and we... More

Hi Beth: We don't like being the dining room police but with limited seating we need to make sure that those with food already in hand have priority. Thanks for understanding and we're thrilled you had a great time here. You got a true "taste of Philly" experience in the most authentic way we could have provided! See you next... More

I went at the beginning of lunch. About 10 people in line but the line moved. Downtown place, happy employees but not necessarily great service. I ordered a cheesesteak with wiz, onions, mushrooms. My wife ordered same but no mushrooms. We ate upstairs. Steep steps, but small location so no much room. We sat with another couple. Bread was very... More

I have been living in the Philly area for the past 50+ years and do not understand the rave reviews of this place. I have tried them several times and never had a good experience. The sandwiches are very small with hardly any meat or cheese on them. You could easily eat at least two, if you had the money,... More

Delicious cheese steaks. The line was long, but moved along. It was very hot in the area where the ordering and cooking happened. Ordered a whiz and fried onions and a whiz, fried onions, and peppers. Whiz was put on the roll, flipped on top of the steak, and onions (and peppers) were added. My husband and I both felt... More

Unlike a many of your options, Jim's also has a liquor license so you can sit down inside and grab a beer. Lines are often long but move quickly. If you're looking for a good steak, Jim's has it.

Description
THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.
