All reviews philly cheesesteak cheese whiz sandwich fried onions bread beef seating upstairs worth the wait eat upstairs long line line was out the door great cheesesteak american cheese real philly bring cash the real deal behind the counter
Having tried the traditional recommended spots that the tourists are told to go to, this one is way better. Definitely out on the list for good authentic cheese steaks without the attitude the others have.
I guess I was expecting way too much since visiting Philly, I was hoping the cheesesteak would be great. I got the regular cheese steak while my mom got the pepper steak. I tried the regular and for some reason, it's missing something. It's not...hitting that spot when I eat cheese steak. I tried my mom's as well and still nothing. My sister got a different one and she said she had better steak somewhere else.More
On my first Philly trip, I took the advice of some Philly vets who said Jim’s was the place to go for the best Steak. They were right! I love to experience the neighborhoods when I visit the big cities and Jim’s was a great...way to get introduced to South St. The staff was great and the sandwich even better!More
On our way to the airport we specifically stopped on South Street to get a Philly cheese steak. We had read the reviews and knew Jim's only took cash so it was smooth sailing all the way. We were glad they had strict rules implemented...to be in compliance with Covid. The staff was super friendly. Additionally, they had loads of options with drinks. If you don't like steak, they have chicken as an option too. Be sure to tip a lot since these folks are working hard to keep the tradition going during these tumultuous times. Despite the heat, they all were smiling. Highly recommend.More
We had a few people refer us here for "the best cheesesteak in Philly". This was our third attempt (the first two were outright awful) and I had high hopes.
The cheesesteak itself was delicious. I got it just with the wiz and mushrooms. My...husband and I shared it (to accommodate multiple cheesteaks throughout the trip) and we both agreed it had been the best we ate the entire trip. (He gave it a 7, I gave it an 8)
However, the staff should really remember they are in the service industry. It's a touristy place, on a touristy street - they'll get tourists. Tourists usually don't know how places operate, and a simple comment explaining should suffice. Instead, it was a short "Next." and I looked at the menu and then back to him to begin ordering when the cook stopped what he was doing, looked at me in the eye and yelled "NEXT." I apologized, ordered and moved out of his miserable way. I heard him do the same with the folks behind me.
It's noisy in there, but it wasn't busy. (I'm a bartender, I know busy. There were, tops, 4 people in line) A little patience, and maybe an attitude adjustment would have me raving about this place. I will go back, but if that guy is working, I'll probably send my husband in next time.More
I have been eating cheesesteaks from Jim’s since the 80’s, after seeing bands such as the MIBS and Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers at J. C. Dobbs. 5 stars for taste, but subtracted two stars this visit, because of the lack of social distancing,...This was definitely not being practiced. The customers in the line were so close that everyone was getting their orders mixed up. The woman behind me put toppings on my cheesesteak and I had to wait for mine to be remade. The tables outside were not being cleaned after each patron. Please resolve these issues, they are too close for my comfort!!More

First off, thank you for your review. We appreciate your loyalty and are pleased you still love the cheesesteaks you've been enjoying for years. We wish you'd had a more comfortable visit the last time you were here and have taken your feedback very...More
Had to stop and have a cheese steak as soon as we got to Philly. In the many times we have eaten here this was the first time I was able to walk right in. But I would have waited an hour for it. As...always, it was great! Love the Italian. Wife is not a huge cheese steak person but she will get one here.More
I asked the locals where to go for the Philly Cheese experience and was directed here. I got here late on a Sunday, and although it was buys, the atmosphere was fairly dead ( most of the shops in the area were already closed). I...got the Cheesesteak with onions and cheez-wiz (had NO idea this was a thing) and a couple of beers. Took a seat upstairs by a window and enjoyed watching the rain. I love that you can watch the cooks working, so many good-looking men, lol. Everyone was super nice. Not the cleanest place but as expected for the area. I will definitely be back here when in the area.More
