We had an 18th birthday family celebration at Pesto Memorial Day Weekend. My husband and I had not been in South Philly for many years, and could not have been more pleased. Everything we ordered was delicious, with generous portions. The famous Cavatelli in the...picture above was amazing, but our large party ordered all kinds of things and they were all divine. I had the mussels red as a main dish, and they were so good I made myself almost sick eating every single one. We ordered a few appetizers to share family style and all kinds of lovely things we had not ordered were delivered as well. The galamad and the eggplant were so flavorful. The overall bill was also very reasonable--we opted to bring in our wine, which was perfectly okay with the restaurant. The owner and her staff were exceptionally responsive. In fact, it felt very much like we were guests in her very home. I have not felt so close to my old home in so long, and it has been a very long time since I have had Italian food that good. I regret I did not write this sooner--very much worth the visit! thank you Ristorante Pesto for a memorable evening!More

I normally do not write reviews, but I had to for Ristorante Pesto!! I was with a party of three, and as soon as I stepped foot into the establishment, I was greeted by one of the owners, Concetta, with warmth and a smile. My...party and I ordered four dishes, which we shared, including the award-winning Seafood Cavatelli. The portions are a great size and the servers were beyond welcoming and amazing, especially “G”. The intimate setting really makes you feel at home. This was such a wonderful experience with delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere. If visiting Philadephia, or if you’re from the “City of Brotherly Love,” please visit Ristorante Pesto. They are committed to compassion, hospitality, and delicious dishes. I can not wait to return. Yours Truly, “Maserati” :)More

We drove down from the NYC Metro area for an extended weekend, and just enjoyed an unforgettable dining experience tonight at Pesto. From the genuine, warm welcome from owner Concetta to outstanding food and service, this was an experience we won't forget. Just wish we...had Pesto in New York! It's obvious that Concetta loves what she does; her passion for food and her genuine love for people is evident as soon as you meet her and she shows you to your table. As first time diners at Pesto, we immediately felt like family. We were treated to extra samples (bruschetta, and an eggplant appetizer for me, the resident vegetarian, to name a few). There were so many fantastic menu offerings and specials that it was actually difficult to choose. But everything we ordered (veal entree for my husband; gnocchi pesto for me) was absolutely delicious. Portions were more than generous and very reasonably priced. Wish we had room for the homemade desserts, but we didn't. Next time! Service was prompt, attentive and courteous; the restaurant staff clearly work well together to ensure that every diner is well cared for and no need is left unmet. This is an outstanding example of genuine caring that comes naturally to the owners and staff: caring about the quality of food, caring about service excellence, and most of all, caring for their customers. We wish this wonderful restaurant, Concetta and her staff all the best for 30 more years of success and will recommend them to anyone visiting Philly. And we'll be back!More

My family and I made a reservation at Pesto Ristorante to celebrate my sister's graduation from college. The restaurant is across from a parking garage so finding parking was easy, and the restaurant is very nice inside and has a small family feel. In regards...to the food and service both were amazing. The wait staff was very attentive to our family during our dinner, and we were taken care of from start to finish. The food was absolutely amazing. It came out In timely manner, and while everyone ordered a different dish, the overall consensus was that the food was amazing. The wait staff also brought out a sparkler with the cake to celebrate my sister's graduation. The dinner was great, but what I really appreciated was that I actually called the restaurant after because we thought someone in our group left a bag there. We ended up finding the bag so I didn't leave a voicemail, but the next day I got a call back from Concetta (one of the owners) because they noticed a missed call on the phones. To me that's service that cannot be beat and I will be recommending Pesto Ristorante to any friends who will be traveling to Philadelphia. Thank you again to the owners and wait staff!More

The food is perfection, exceptional service & the hostess with the mostest, owner Concetta Varallo takes hospitality & customer care to a new level. You are family when you're there. She even picked up a special cake I ordered & my husband loved the lemoncello...martini. Although they have a full bar, you can still bring your own special bottle of wine with no corking fee. A true gem in South Philly. Enjoy- we do whenever we can!More

Old school gem situated deep in South Philly and way off the touristy track. Celebrated a local college graduation and couldn't have asked for anything more for such a memorable occasion. The signature Cavtelli dish was outstanding. Our party also had the Veal, various Chicken...Platters and Seafood Pasta dishes. Super fresh and quality thru and thru. Best value and if that's not enough, the service was like being at grandma's on a Sunday. The owner was genuinely focused on our experience and it permeated through the entire restaurant. Definitely will be back to this gem.More

Looking for a place on short notice to celebrate our anniversary - which we were not expecting to spend in Philadelphia. We had been talking about how hard it was to find good Italian food at home, and much to our surprise, Ristorante Pesto was...rated #1 of all restaurants in Philly! So we called on short notice, and they kindly found us a table on a busy Friday night. We left feeling like family. We ate Gorgonzola salads that were generous and delicious, so much so that I may try to recreate them. We split the shellfish pasta ( we are not big eaters) and the pasta was fresh and perfectly al dente. While we waited for our food, we enjoyed generous pours of red and white house wines, and delighted in the stuffed eggplant that was delivered to us on the house. We even shared a piece of cheesecake for dessert, as it was described as “light” - and light it was. Throughout the meal, we were checked on regularly by the universally pleasant and friendly staff. Wow - I am going back every time I get to Philly. Loved every minute of the evening and will recommend Ristorante Pesto to everyone I know.More
