About
Neighborly meets sophisticated at Red Owl, a modern tavern in the heart of Old City, just across from the Liberty Bell. Among soaring windows and cozy tables, the kitchen serves up smart, stylish takes on American staples (a cheesesteak never tasted as good as ours, made with premium shaved rib-eye). When paired with craft beers and classic cocktails, it’s a clever balance of fancy and familiar, with a dash of Philly flair. We look forward to seeing you soon!

We stayed at this hotel for our son's wedding. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast with a friendly server named Erin. We used our breakfast vouchers for full egg breakfast with bacon, home fries and toast. The coffee is excellent. The Red Owl has a very cool vibe to it. We loved meeting here with our guests for drinks too!

This restaurant is attached to the Kimpton where we were staying. We tried for dinner upon our arrival but it was sold out. We made reservations for the following night (recommendation) and my family and I all enjoyed our dinner. Our waitress was friendly and attentive to my sons allergies. The portions were plentiful and the drinks were good. There was a variety of options to fit all our tastes. We started with the tater tots which weren’t what we expected but were very good. I went with the scallops which were delicious. My daughter got the lobster Mac and cheese which she was unable to finish but enjoyed. My son had a basic burger and fries and finished every last bite. Prices were a little high compared to other restaurants nearby but we probably enjoyed our meal here more so than the other places we ate.

This is the restaurant attached to the Monaco Hotel. The kitchen is open for breakfast only on weekends. I had the steak and eggs. I ordered medium rare but the steak was barely rare (cool red meat throughout); also, the taste was good but it was chewy rather than tender. My wife's eggs over easy were fine but the potatoes that came with both dishes were mediocre and crazily oversalted. Good wheat toast with butter and jam. By the way, on weekdays they offer the kind of breakfast items that you find in the cold breakfast buffets you find at chain hotels. You can also get a breakfast sandwich on a bagel with bacon that they heat in a toaster oven and that is truly excellent.

The Red Owl is located in the Hotel Monaco. We stopped in after we checked into the hotel for a quick lunch. While the menu is rather limited, we did enjoy a Philly tradition – the cheesesteak. It was pretty good. We stopped in later that evening for drinks as well. The bar staff was great – very nice and attentive. In the morning we wanted a quick to-go muffin and coffee but had to do without. There was only one person working and he was covering tables and the counter for hotel guests as well as customers from off the street. He was doing the best he could given that he was flying solo, but we didn’t want to add to his burden of long lines and frustrated customers. Not the server’s fault, but a disappointing customer experience that management should work on fixing.

This place is a joke. The food is grossly overpriced and the drinks are HORRIBLE! That was probably THE WORST margarita I ever had in my life. I asked for it to be made with Casamigos Tequila and it was $20. I go out in Manhattan all the time and the only time drinks are that expensive is in an extreme fine dining establishment. According to the rules now you have to order food and we got the Parmesan truffle fries. What we got were nasty greasy fries with oil soaked Parmesan cheese but no flavor of truffle. Three drinks and fries came to over $70 without tip. Are you kidding me??? The manager said well drinks cost more in Philly. Ummmm no. Go anywhere else!!! Don’t waste your money!!!

It may sound strange that this review is culmination of 4 visits over 4 days but we were with family with a one year old that needed fed at certain times and this was the easiest option as we were staying at the Kimpton next door. We had 3 breakfasts and a dinner ( our first night). Food is extremely mediocre. Hostesses are disinterested. Serving staff good but kitchen throw out food that is often cold or unappetizing. We had two identical breakfasts served at same time ( eggs Benedict) and one had hard poached eggs and cold potatoes ( sent back) while the other was just fine. This mirrored our experience on other occasions. They seem to take the business they get from effectively being the hotel restaurant for granted and do little to give value for money or to take care with their food. The servers were good but everything else was just poor.

Expensive but delicious! We stayed at the adjoining Monaco Hotel and had breakfast twice in the Red Owl Tavern. Breakfast on both occasions was excellent. However, in particular, the blueberry pancakes are to die for and it seems to be the specialty of the female cook (I think Nicole) who works there in the morning. It comes stuffed with blueberries and a side of mascarpone cheese. Smother that in butter and syrup and you have a taste sensation like none other. It was incredible. Breakfast can be expensive. For two people with tip, easily $60-$70. Entrees run about $20 and a cup of coffee (small) is $5 but with lots of refills if you wish. The staff there is very, very friendly. A shout-out to Samir and Janaye who were both exceptional. And the chef (Nicole?) who made those unbelievable pancakes? Thank you for those few moments of heaven while we ate our breakfast.

Spent New Years Eve here for a second year in a row. Convenient when staying in the Kimpton Monaco. Cannot speak for the food since I've only had drinks, but the drinks that I have had were well executed and the bar staff friendly and professional. I believe that Dan was our bartender on NYE and kept the drinks coming. When my wife wanted a chocolate martini, he went out of his way to find her some chocolate. Once they started brewing some fresh espresso, I finished the night with some fine espresso martinis.

Pretentious. Inattentive. Basic. The vibe was so bad that I almost changed my mind and left, but once my server came, I felt trapped, so I regrettably stayed. It's important to know that I'm generally a 25-33 percent tipper depending upon experience. When I tip 15 percent, that's my bottom of the barrel for even the worst service. Here, I tipped 15 percent. I was sat inside, between two couples who were strangers to me. I get it, but the place was PACKED, and I'm less than a foot from strangers on either side, so it was a little problematic for me. It was so loud. There was a table of drunk guys close to me, and one of them thought he was the funniest and most interesting people in the room. He yelled and sang at the top of his lungs constantly. I wasn't the only one who noticed, yet no one did anything about it. Unfortunately, it was brunch only Sunday, so I got the rancheros huevos. It did have a little kick with pepper added in, but could have probably been seasoned a little better. My drinks were ok. I could have the best food in the world, and the experience overall was so terrible that it wouldn't have mattered. I was dressed in casual pants and a tee shirt, so I get that I wasn't giving off rich folk vibe, but I feel like the people here met me know it. I feel like the server expected a cruddy tip, so he gave the most basic service possible. I have money, but I don't need to let people know it constantly. You know how you hear about people like Bill Gates wearing plain old clothes? Maybe you guys should learn from that next time. You can read my reviews. I very rarely give a rating below four stars for any place because I get that the service industry is difficult. But this was just that unenjoyable for me. I was searching for restaurants near me while at the table. I'm going to try the nearby Cuban eatery next time.

Very expensive. Small portion of everything. Even a salad that fit on a desert plate cost $7. Also charge a "surcharge" for the kitchen staff. Ridiculous! My son is an Exec Chef in Boston and they don't even do that. The place is small, loud and crappy. DON'T GO!!!!

I wish I could remember all of the names, but then again I would mention every server, waiter, waitress and hostess we encountered. All are friendly. All are well-trained. The menu is decent for a place with an occupancy limit of 68. The pork chops the first night (we stayed 2 nights in the adjoining hotel) were juicy and had excellent flavor. My friend had them and said the same thing. The ladies liked their crab cakes too. The drinks menu is vast. The wine, not so much, but not bad. Breakfast the last morning was excellent. I ate at the bar and the bartender was attentive and helpful.

Overpriced. Not the best service. It is a great location. Communication was not good at all - we visited from out of town and did not realize we had to purchase food. We ordered and received our drink and then were told we needed to leave since we did not want to order food. Paid way too much for beer and could only have one. Oh well. Lastly - don't get coffee here in the morning. Walk the extra block to the next place you'll get more for your money.

We were greeted by a rude host who said they would be closing at three. It was 2;15. When seated we were greeted by Ligan, our server. A very pleasant and professional young man. The food I ordered, rice pudding never came out so he cancelled the order. The food runner comes out another ten minutes later with the food and I explained we had cancelled it due to the 3;00 closure. He rudely turned around and threw it on another table whilst giving us a very dirty look. But Logan still had us leave with a smile.

Service was awful. Hamburger was burnt and so was the bun. The parts that weren't blackened burnt were dry because they don't provide any condiments (this was a to go order). The lettuce was brown, limp, and old. The fries were good. Not at all impressed.

Good food and friendly staff. The lunch menu was small but had a nice variety of choices. Our order was taken but never placed and without us even complaining the staff realized the mistake, promptly placed the order, and then discounted our bill. Very impressed with how they handled the oversight. I will add though, that no one ever came back to take our credit card and we were delayed almost 15 more minutes just waiting to pay our check. This place would be that much better with a bit more focus!
