Saw the Butter Cake on the Food Network so decided to give Flying Monkey a try. They had a good variety of bars so picked up a few. Have to say the the butter cake was rich, dense and decadent. That said, the Chocolate Butter...Cake was the one that goes over the top. Amazing! You can’t go wrong with any of the Bars but the Smore’s and Triple Chocolate were our favorites. The Mini flourless Chocolate cake is a must! Servers were friendly. A food Network favorite that lives up to the hype!More

Had lunch at the Terminal and had to stop here after seeing all of the good looking desserts. I had a slice of cake and it was great, very moist with a great frosting. my wife had a chocolate chip cookie and there were plenty...of chips and she enjoyed the cookie. definitely worth a try.More

First time here. Tried the coconut crunch cookie and a toffee brownie bar. Both items were good, but didn't knock my socks off. You could definitely taste the butter in both. Service was very good

Brought my visiting Aunt here for a quick treat, the frosting on the cupcakes was delicious- albeit very sweet, and the employees were super friendly!

These are great cake bites! I would love to try other flavors! The place was covered with people, and I had the carrot cake covered with chocolate. I do not even like carrot cake, but it was good!

I found this bakery on a list of places that offered gluten free options in the Center City area. I was so happy to see they did offer a few things including monster cookies, chocolate torte, and rice krispy treats. The girl working the cashier...was helpful when I asked about what they had that was gluten free. Everything I bought was delicious! They also offer vegan and vegetarian options. The goodies I bought were like $3 each.More

I always visit this for a sweet treat. The butter cake is phenom but I can only eat 2-3 bites as it is very sweet. This year I also tried the pumpkin butter cake which had a nice fall flavor but again, very sweet.

We discovered the Flying Monkey Bakery at Reading Terminal Market on our very first day in Philadelphia, and we returned there EVERY SINGLE DAY of our week-long vacation! Seriously --- every day! And, while everything in the bakery case looked amazing, we actually ordered the...exact same thing every day, because it was just that good! What was this wunderbar baked good? Butter Cake!!! I can't adequately describe how amazing the butter cake is! But I will try! First off, it's not at all what you would think something called "butter cake" would be. It's not really a *cake* at all. The best way I can describe it is to think of the look and texture of a lemon bar. Can you picture a lemon bar? It's got a very thin crust on the top and bottom, and the inside is kind of gooey and gelatinous in texture. This is like that, except that instead of lemon flavored, the filling is buttery-flavored! Silky, creamy, buttery. That's the only way I can describe it. And the thin crust is like a soft, buttery shortbread cookie. The whole thing just melts in your mouth like silk. BUT -- and this is very important -- you have to wait to eat it! I know, I know! You're going to want to gobble it up right away. But avoid the temptation! You have to wait until it's room temperature (it's refrigerated in the bakery case). Trust me on this! It would not be good to eat it cold! You wouldn't want cold shortbread or a cold brownie, would you? No, you want it to be room temperature, so it melts in your mouth. So, let it sit out for a few hours (or do as we did and carry it around Philly in your backpack while visiting tourist sites), and then eat it once it's nice and soft. You will not regret it! I also want to note that the service was very friendly. Everyone we spoke with at the Flying Monkey Bakery was just wonderful. On our last day in Philly, we went back to the bakery one more time and got a big box of butter cake to take home and put in the freezer! :) Hopefully that will last us until our next trip to the City of Brotherly Love!More
