My order was incorrect and the fries were cold. But, the sandwich did get was hot. The staff were super nice and helpful, though! This place is overrated by the tour guides, etc. it is somewhat accessible and the staff will help you out.

We all got the fully loaded cheese steaks. VERY good. You should know though that the peppers are pickled or something. It adds great flavor, but if you’re not the type whose stomach can handle the unexpected, you should know going in that these are...not just sautéed veggies. The onion rings are amazing! My husband had the fries with cheese (their cheese was outstanding), onion, and jalapeño. He said they were really good. One bad thing, they were out of burgers and my son wouldn’t eat a cheese steak, so we had to hit another restaurant for him after. That was lousy.More

Is there really such a thing as the best steak sub?? Not to upset the Philadelphians, but I had a steak sub of equal quality at a restaurant in a retirement community in Maryland visiting family. I also recall a REALLY good steak sub found...in Severna Park, called Jeno’s… just saying there’s a lot of places to get a good steak sub. What I liked about Sonny’s is it was clean, service was friendly and efficient, and it was a good basic sub, fries were tasty as well. I would go again, if in the area, but would not go out of my way.More

A local recommended that I try Sonny's instead of Pat's or Geno's. While I don't have any reference point to compare with, I must say that it was an excellent recommendation. I ordered the classic cheese steak, i.e. beef with whiz & fried onions. There...was a lot of filling and the meat was fresh.More

Great staff, welcoming location, fantastic cheesesteak - - - - - - - - October, 2023 Visit Our family visited Philadelphia for a family wedding. We had a good time. On Saturday morning, we toured some of the historic sights and then we needed lunch....I had seen Sonny’s the day before so we knew where to go. Blessedly we found a parking spot, right in front. We ordered the Philly cheesesteak with onions and peppers (an no runny cheese on top), and they were great… all three of us liked them a lot… great bread, and fantastically well cooked beef - SO NICE! Sometimes food is good and sometimes… the family/friends you’re with, the events of the day… your hunger level… and the food is extra good This is one of those times… great family time + gooood food = extra tasty steak on that great bread! Thank you, Sonny’s! ----- ----- -----More

Communal tables are the rule here, and everyone is here to EAT! The cheesesteaks and very good. The people are friendly. It's clean. What's missing? no lines, no crowds, no crazy vibe. Not at all like Jim's, closed anyway, but that's the place I'm used...to. One thing I've learned as a tourist in Philly is never to eat a cheesesteak in any other city. True.More

When in Philly, you have to get a Philly Cheesesteak. After alot of research we choose Sonny's and it did not disappoint. We came around 1:30pm and the place was still busy from lunch time. We shared a regular cheesesteak and fries. The sandwich was...delicious and everything we expected it to be. The fries were also really good! It was a quick in and out but I would highly recoment checking them out!More

It was worth trying for a culinary experience, but the taste itself was not too good. In addition, it's quite pricey. Service is fast.

Chose this spot for the location and good reviews. Plus I opted to avoid the more touristy cheesesteak spots. This place had a long line of locals, but the line moved fast. Had a cheesesteak and fries which were very tasty. Husband doesn't like cheese,...and his plain steak sandwich was a little dry. But you gotta have a cheesesteak when in Philly, and Sonny's fits the bill nicely.More

After some research about who has the best cheesesteak sandwich, my spouse and I decided to try Sonny’s since we were near Independence Hall. “If you see a line, get in it.” Folks were already lined up to the entry door when we arrived. The...queue moves quickly as long as people know what they want when they get to the register. We selected a cheesesteak with provolone, and a side of fries. The folks taking the orders were very nice. After just a few minutes, our number was called. Sharing one sandwich was plenty, especially with fries. It was very good and filling. I’d probably get whiz cheese next time. The fries were yummy, and how a certain M franchise used to taste in its heyday. Seating is limited but we lucked out and shared a table with another customer.More

It was our first time trying a cheese steak and we were not disappointed. The steak was very tender and plenty of it. And just enough onions ,not overpowering at all. It wasn't greasy and the bread was perfect.

When in Philly right? We wanted the most authentic cheese steak we could get around the historic district and Sonny's came up in multiple searches. The sandwich was pretty large and tasted great... not quite the thing I had built up in my mind from...years and years of hearing the hype of a real Philly cheese steak but delicious all the same. I'd probably go with other toppings and a different cheese next time but we wanted to try it the original way just to say we had one.More

Staff was friendly. Communal tables. Order, pay and they will deliver your food. Disappointed in the cheesesteak as it was very dry and the bread soft and doughy. Three cheesesteaks, one hamburger and three drinks—$61

After some research I followed the locals suggestion and went to Sonny's. Glad we did. It was close enough to our hotel that we could walk, which is a good thing. The traffic in Old Town Philly is horrendous. Sandwich was every thing I hoped...it would be. Well seasoned, juicy and large. Don't pass up Sonny's if you are in the area.More
