Chose this restaurant as there were few options open mid afternoon on a November Monday. First, the restaurant smelled faintly like gas (rotten egg odor) but we were starving and had struck out several times trying to find something open or even in existence (apparently...a number of restaurants which show up online have closed for good) Party of 5 - ordered sandwich, 2 chowder, quiche and Pad Thai. Sandwich and quiche were good. Chowder was fair but tasted like it was out of a 5 gallon tub. Pad Thai was not made with Pad Thai Noodles but with glass/cellophane noodles, which are very different flavor, texture and ingredients (not rice, which is what Pad Thai noodles are made from). A huge problem if you have food sensitivities and it just tasted weird. And the restroom was really dirty.More

We are just after Labor Day on Whidbey Island, so tourist season is slowing down. Even with that, some of the restaurants downtown (like Toby’s) are packed at night with locals and tourists alike. One that isn’t packed, but should be, is the Lower Loft...Eatery. You need to do a little hunting on Front Street, and go down some stairs, but it’s worth it. The restaurant is very homey, with wide plank wood floors and booths by the windows overlooking Penn Cove. It’s just comfortable! Our first trip there, we had sandwiches, a turkey and a pulled pork. Both were substantial (served with chips) and very tasty. We also got the “cup” of chowder - a very big cup! That was excellent and made the dinner just great. We also noticed that they had Thai food (a favorite of ours) but it seemed to only have seafood in it (not fans of most seafood). We asked as we were checking out if they also did chicken or beef. Yes they do! It’s just not on the menu (it should be). We came back, and had the red curry, pad Thai and sautéed veggies. All were excellent, especially the curry. It was a good as our favorite place in Seattle (we have 5 Thai restaurants in our neighborhood). The veggies were great and the pad Thai very good. We would definitely come back and couldn’t wait to come and tell my TripAdvisor friends about this great little place. Super friendly service to boot!More
