We Love Dive Bars. We love Food. Those two statements don't usually go together very often. the Cortez Clam Factory does both Very Very well. We went on a Sunday night. Many of the places around this area are currently closing at 8.After a failed...attempt at actually seeing a sunset on a rainy beach we found ourselves starving with few options. We had passed the Clam Factory on out way into town and it looked scruffy enough to catch or eye, We walked in and a small yet rowdy crowd was owning the dance floor. We sat down and a couple of minutes later our server arrived. She suggested the special of Hog Nose Snapper over rice with shrimp. We we insanely hungry at this point so we simply said yes. We also threw in an order of raw oysters and smoked fish dinner, Given the surrounding we were just hoping for decent food. One of the first things my Wife noticed was the pen kitchen. It's hard to hide flaws and short cuts when all of the food prep in out in the open. The oysters arrived and they were simply Perfect. Large Cold Gulf Oysters are one of my favorite things on earth and these were spot on. The smoked fish dip was also very very good and for $5 even better. When our Snapper arrived both of us were blown away. It was a Huge portion (Yes Leftovers) and it was perfectly prepared. We both Loved it. Long story short, the Clam Factory is Really Really Good.More

Lots of space between tables. Mask wearing was not strictly observed but felt safe anyway. Clam chowder was really Smokey and full of clams... delicious. Fried clams were plentiful and tasty. Fries were pretty mediocre, but the cole slaw was terrific. Fried fish was flakey...and just a bit greasy, but would order it again. Service was extremely friendly.More

Being originally from New England, I know what good fried clams should taste like. Cortez Clam Factory’s version were very good. In their defense, it’s really impossible to duplicate the quality of freshness you can get in New England vs. the shipped version to restaurants...outside of the northeast. Otherwise, the restaurant/bar is exactly what is advertised— good food, very friendly and competent staff, and a place that offers a local’s taste of the Longboat Key side of the Gulf coast.More

My title says it all. Last week we entered to hopefully have a nice dinner. Sat down, ordered drinks and dinner... Then I spot over-my-wifes-shoulder, a guy at the table behind her with what looked like smoke coming from his clinched fist by his face....Sure enough he was Vaping. I asked/confirmed with our waitress "Hey, smoking is not allowed in here right?" and she said yes. I then said that the guy was Vaping. She walked over and spoke to the guy. Not but seconds later he blows out a huge cloud of smoke. NOBODY DID ANYTHING. (SO WE WALKED). I mean people, you are not allowed to smoke inside ANY establishment as it is, and with Covid this is like spreading the virus with a sprayer. SORRY PEOPLE BUT SHAME ON YOU for not acting and kicking this guy out IMMEDIATELY. When you wonder why businesses are shut down, take a strong look at yourself. HEALTH HAZARD PURE AND SIMPLE! And to add, the guy Vaping was pure ignorant and had ZERO thought about anyone else. (Needless to say I hope the place is shut down and fined!)More

I love clams because when we lived in Virginia as a youngster, my family owned a Summer home in Avalon, Cape May County, New Jersey, right on the bay and a clam bed. I’m 77 now and this place has the sweetest little neck clams,...shucked and served on ice, that I’ve had since those days. After we moved to Georgia many years ago, our Summer home moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, great oysters, but no more clams. I used to go to O’Shucks, now closed, for clams, when visiting Anna Maria Island, but this place is even better with great entertainment and it makes it interesting to watch the attractive young ladies up at the bar dancing with the men, older than I, as long as the drinks keep coming, especially on a Saturday night. My wife and I went twice and all I had were the clams and watched the “entertainment” going on at the bar. Those old guys really can dance when motivated. It’s a fun place and you should see it on a Saturday night at least once. Week nights are more subdued. Good regular seafood, too. My wife enjoyed her Grouper sandwich and Fish Tacos. Alas, no sweet tea, and in the South, too, so we took our own Arizona Sweet Tea.More

The menus are so greasy I wanted to wash my hands after handling them. The service was so bad that after 17 minutes without seeing a server, much less having one come to our table, we left. And it wasn’t even busy! Just seemed like...nobody cares.More

Four of us went to dinner on Saturday night. Got there about 6:30. It is busy and for a reason. It was delicious. We had the Shrimp Cocktail to start. The shrimp were very good and the cocktail sauce was ok. Not very spicy but...good. Had the Clam Chowder which was also delicious. Then we had the Saturday night special which is steak and a baked potato with a salad. Where else would you go to get a good steak but a clam restaurant? Lol. But the steak was delicious, it was good size and only $18 which included the potato and salad. I wouldn't order the steak cooked more than medium because I believe they butterfly them if you do. But I wouldn't order steak more than medium anyway. Potato was cooked to perfection and served with butter and sour cream. The salad was cold and the ranch dressing was good. For dessert they had Key Lime or Nutella Chocolate Pies to choose from. Both were very good as well. Just like they call it- It's a Five Star Dive! A definite must go to!!More

We had a nice meal visiting with friends. Our waitress even though very busy took very good care of us. The food was good, but kind of hard to see to eat after it started getting dark as there's no lights out there. We had the...Jumbo shrimp and Grouper and fried Oysters. There was a live Jam going on but it was to crowded to get in to listen, from the little bit we heard they sounded great.More

Sorry I didn’t go inside as there was a huge group of us and we stayed outside on the patio ... I’m guessing they do.
