My experience started off a little rough with a waiter telling me a meal was gluten free. I ate a portion of the meal before being told it wasn’t gluten free. A manager name Keith came out to see how I was doing and to...make sure I received a perfectly cooked gluten free meal on the house which was delicious. He also assured me he would do some additional training with the staff about allergies. Keith went out of his way to serve us and to make sure we were taken care of. This company is very lucky to have such a caring manager!More

We had the very best experience enjoying Sunday brunch for a very large party in The Dewberry 1850 celebrating our son’s engagement over the weekend. Our server, Amy, went above and beyond with such grace and professionalism. She made sure everything was perfect from beginning...to end. I liked that she made sure the waffles were coming fresh from the kitchen - smelling and tasting superb. Amy was in and out of dining room quickly while clearing. Our water carafes and juice area was consistently topped off…her timing was amazing! She was congenial with our guests and several commented how fantastic she was and made them feel. Ravs from our guests about the quality of the bacon and the omelet station, too! The Dewberry manager, Gerard Austin was accommodating and clearly setting the standard for his team. When I expressed concern about ample seating he had not only a doable and swift solution - he completed it in a manner that put me at ease immediately. By the time the guests arrived, I was poised to welcome and enjoy. He checked back with me during and when our brunch concluded. What a pleasure he was to meet! Many thanks & Five Stars for The Dewberry 1850 Team! Christal Gray-Davis (and Ron) Cgraydavis@icloud.com 937.597.8885More

During a stay at the University of Marriott Dayton, I ate at this restaurant three times over the course of a weekend purely due to the convenience. The atmosphere is nice enough for a hotel lounge/restaurant. The menu seems to be lacking for my taste....I am not a very picky eater, and I was struggling to find something on the menu that I wanted to eat other than a run-of-the-mill burger. It is a little pricey, and especially when you get off of the apps and sandwiches into the entrees, you are spending a lot of money for food that is done so much better elsewhere. On one occasion, I had a bacon cheeseburger burger, nothing special about it, $18. And on another occasion, I had a chicken Philly sandwich, which was actually better than I expected. The fries, for some reason are super salty, and after my first experience I requested them with no salt. My biggest gripe about this restaurant is the service. I don’t know if my weekend experience was the typical or not, but on all occasions that I ate there, the service was super duper slow. At no time that I ate here was the restaurant even close to packed. And on the contrary, there was never more than 3-4 other tables. On my first experience, there was one other table of people in the restaurant and we sat there for three hours eating dinner. Not just because we were talking, but because it took three hours to get our order and get our food and eat. We had to ask multiple times for drink refills, for condiments etc., and they had the nerve to automatically include a tip. On another occasion, we told the waitress coming into the restaurant that part of our party had to leave to head to the airport and needed their food in 40 minutes. We ordered sandwiches, and they did not have them ready in 40 minutes, though they made sure to bring the bill and have us pay in advance. People had to leave without their food. They didn’t seem to be short staffed, they definitely weren’t overrun with customers. I don’t know what the issue is. But the service leaves a lot to be desired and I hope they can get it together because this really is not a horrible restaurant. But you cannot eat here if you are on any kind of schedule. And though it is convenient to those staying at the hotel, you can go just about anywhere else and get better food for better prices, and with much better service.More

Dewberry is located on the ground floor of the Marriott. It is spacious and open. We had breakfast and it was quite good and very reasonably priced. Our omelets were excellent. Service was quick, friendly and attentive too.

My daughter had a doctor's appointment early today and when it was over we decided to go to breakfast before we went home. We looked for top breakfast places and of the ones that came up we decided on this one. That was a big...old mistake. We should have known better when we realized it was a hotel (Marriott) restaurant (never good IMO). When we got there they said they were serving a buffet. That was really not appealing to us. We aren't buffet diners but we were there and it looked clean so we stayed. The food was not good and barely warm. I will have to say that the only thing I enjoyed was the bacon, mixed fruit compote, and coffee. The eggs were yuck, the fresh cut fruit was hard and tasteless, the French toast was the thinnest toast I have ever seen and flavorless. The berry fruit that I put on top of it was the only thing that I enjoyed. We had taken a muffin but we didn't even try it. The waitress put it in a to-go box and we gave it to a homeless man before we got on the highway. All that for $17.50 a person. Really? They charge that much for a no-better than Holiday Inn Express free breakfast? As we were leaving we saw one lady that had a made to order omlet and a waffle? What? How did she get special service? Everyone else had to eat from that buffet. How this got on a list of good breakfast places in Dayton, OH bumfuzzles me!!!More

We ate at the Dewberry for dinner while staying at the Marriott for one evening. We we did not have high expectations but were pleasantly surprised at the tasty food for a reasonable cost. Our server, Brandon, was very attentive. After sitting down, we asked...to change tables and it was no problem...plus he immediately sanitized the table we had been sitting at, which reassured me of Marriott's safe practices during this pandemic. We shared the Happy Hour-priced Hummus Plate. I had the Brown Street Turkey Club sandwich which was accompanied by excellent French fries (which I had not expected), and my husband had the salmon. All were very delicious. Plus the Happy Hour prices for house wine and beer made for a very reasonable bill. The only drawback was that the menu was a bit limited, but I felt there was enough variety to please different tastes.More

We arrived at the hotel after hours on the road, and chose the attached restaurant out of fatigue more than any other criterion. It proved to be an enjoyable evening, with good food, friendly service, and pleasant surroundings. The place was nearly deserted, since the...University students were on lock-down due to a covid-19 panic by the school administration. More food for us, but things felt strange, like a post apocalyptic movie. The menu is short, just two sandwiches, or four main courses, two salads, and three appetizers. We had shrimp in a garlic sauce for an appetizer, good and tasty. My companion had a green salad, which was very good. I chose a caesar salad, which was tasty, with real anchovies in the sauce, a mark of a good restaurant. Then I had the salmon, which was tender and flavorful, not overcooked at all. We had a California Chardonnay for $42, a bit steep, but what could we do? The bill came to $105 before tip. The service was slow in spite of the deserted restaurant. We were not in a hurry, so I didn't mind, but perhaps this is not the best place to hit when you have a busy schedule.More

Good breakfast in the morning. Each morning staying at the hotel I ate breakfast here and it was good. The buffet was the best for the fresh fruit. There are other menu items with lunch and dinner served here also.

Yesterday was my 2nd trip here for the lunch buffet. Meat Monday featured a grilled chicken and a very tender beef, broccoli cheddar soup, and a great salad bar. I also visited on a Thursday that featured BBQ which was very tasty as well. Our...server shared that Friday's fried chicken has been the most popular, so I'll try that next. The $12 buffet includes a beverage and dessert as well. Service was very attentive and we were in and out quickly. Parking is easy and plentiful!More

I am writing specifically about the Dewberry's new Lunch Buffet. It runs Monday - Friday and has a different buffet each day. I tried Monday's menu last week. It consisted of salad bar, broccoli cheddar soup, grilled steak mushroom with demi-glaze, herb roasted sliced chicken,...parmesan potato wedges steamed broccolini with red peppers, baked cheese filled with mushroom crepe with red pepper sauce, a non-alchoholic beverage and a little dessert. All of this food costs only $12.00 and it is all excellent. A very pleasant server came to our table a couple of times to urge us to go back for seconds and to not forget to get dessert. Also she gave us each a coupon for a free appetizer for a later time. On a previous visit for dinner, I sampled some of their appetizers and they were quite yummy. Other days of the week feature mexican, asian, texan, and southern USA. I want to go back and try everyday.More

One of the nights during a recent stay at the Marriott hotel, I decided giving this restaurant inside it a try for a late night dinner around 9:30 PM on a Sunday. Although they have plenty of room to improve in the service department, I...really enjoyed my meal. Their posted dining hours state they are open daily until midnight, but it's evident at some point in the evening they downsize their service staff to a skeleton crew. Upon entering the restaurant, nobody greeted me or helped me with where to sit. I eventually had to ask the bartender and was told to sit anywhere I'd like. So, I picked the table of my choice and a few minutes later the bartender came to ask me how he could help. I asked him for a beer menu as to which he replied is that all you're going to have. I replied no and I would also like to eat and asked for some menus. See, normally when a guest sits down at a restaurant table, they are given menus. This man didn't seem to be accustomed with such practice. After his mind woke up and he returned with menus, I ordered a Rhinegest Truth IPA beer ($7) to drink and a Flatbread ($14) to eat. The Truth American IPA is a local beer out of Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati, OH. It was poured out of a 12 oz. can and this was my first time drinking one. It was very good and I'd have no problem ordering one again. The Flatbread was just outstanding and I could easily of had gulped down another 1 or 2 orders of these babies in the same sitting. The bread was cooked just right, there were lobs of gorgonzola cheese, and it was all-around very well-seasoned and dripping with flavor. Yummy! I look forward to returning on a future visit to sample more menu selections as there's a few more that caught my eye that I would like to sample.More
