Very nice people!! The food was excellent! I ordered the wrong dish at the beginning as i did not know what pakora meant and she brought it to the table for free anyways. The owner brought us deserts for free too! Highly recommend!

We dropped in for dinner when my wife was looking for an Indian curry. I had a coconut shrimp curry, which was good, the naan bread served with the food was excellent. Fresh from a tandoor. There is room for improving the atmosphere, though. Outdoor...dining was on old worn out chairs which looked like from a waiting room, under some tent-like structure.More
Good reviews so I was in town and decided to try it. They brought out a complementary ginger drink and potato cake with tamarin sauce appetizer that was delicious. Savory, sweet AND salty. The dal and saag paneer were very good. Tried the cashew lemon...rice which was really nice. The garlic naan was more bread-like, not as flat as at most places. Service was excellent. Everything was really tasty and I’d definitely come back next time I was in town.More
We ordered Dal Tadka, Shahi panner, Naan and Bhatura. The food was very tasty and well cooked and the portions are big. I have had Indian food all over USA and this was one of the better tasting ones. The staff was very friendly and...offered us complimentry dessert. Go check out this restaurant if you like Indian food.More
The service was outstanding. Not rushed, just perfect. The Mirchi Chicken and Lamb Coconut Curry (spicy) was the best Indian food we’ve have in over 20 years. And the Samosa Chaat was also amazing. We’re 2+ hours away but will make sure to plan our...future trips north through Ventura to have a bite here. You should too.More
Great restaurant and very friendly people. Many dishes and all are superb. Very tasty. We did during covid many pickups. Well organized and always something extra for free.
OMG Food is excellent! Service is excellent. All freshly made. Plenty of seating outdoors. We ordered beer and mains, got lovely popodum with dipping sauces. Got a complimentary drive SJ of potato cakes in sauce to keep us going until mains. By the time we...got to mains which were beautiful, we were half full so took the food home. Very reasonable price, great value specials and a complimentary sweet rice desert, lovely touch! Very friendly, polite and professional. We have eaten in a Indian restaurants in Europe & USA, amazing vegetarian menu too! this was amazing!?Highly recommend !More
I've been going to the Taj Cafe for nearly 15 years and take all my out of town guests there. They have invariably said it was the best Indian restaurant they'd been to. I love their buffet. The waitstaff and service is wonderful--they bring fresh...tandoori chicken to the table. In fact, I'm going there tomorrow!More
The best Indian food we’ve ever had! We’ve eaten at Indian restaurants in many places around the world. Taj topped them all. We were cruising Main Street looking for an open restaurant on Thanksgiving. We saw cars and a few people outside Taj so made...the stop. So glad we did! First they brought us crackers with three dipping sauces: A tomato purée, cilantro and a brown semi-sweet (tamarind) sauce. We loved them all. Next came excellent complimentary fried cakes like crab cakes covered with a bean sauce. Then came dinner. We both ordered the coconut curry from the daily specials menu. Mine was made with lamb, my wife’s with fish. Both were served with the same excellent curry. Dinner came with sides of dal, rice, riata and naan. Then a complimentary desert of a thin sweet rice pudding. We took at least half home with us and can’t wait to repeat our meal tomorrow. Excellent food and a great value to boot!More
aj Cafe Indian Cuisine Ventura Even More Dusty and Discomfort-Inducing than Most Indian Restaurants 718626365 My Indian restaurant experiences are usually examples of the "don't think about it, just eat it," school of dining out. The Taj in Ventura was even moreso than most of...the others, and that includes a Glasgow Kebab house after midnight. In their defense, I will say that every single Indian restaurant I've ever eaten in has superlatively friendly and helpful staff, and that includes the Taj. I attempt to go beyond the almost uniformly excellent samosas and pakoras when ordering, and try some more exciting and exotic dishes, but how much cauliflower can one person eat? Admittedly, I'm not tremendously adventurous. No lamb or goat, or anything other than chicken breasts. So it's not entirely the fault of the dining establishments themselves that I'm so dissatisfied with my Indian meals. Any form of Indian cheese calls to mind those weird-looking cows they have over there. So my choices mainly consist of lentils, potatoes, cauliflower, and spinach. I can never seem to get all of those items in one dish, and I always leave hungry. Eating at the Taj Cafe in Ventura recently was no different. Actually, it WAS different in that the restaurant is housed in a smallish storefront, with seating on either side of the front door, in the actual windows, as well as in a larger dining room. Yes, hubby and I were seated like two latter-day Beckhams (only much older and fatter, and not nearly as good looking) in throne-like velvet-upholstered and very dusty armchairs, surrounded by expired flyers advertising Bollywood productions, and illuminated by dollar-store quality strings of Xmas lights. Funky. Admittedly, hubs was happier with his late afternoon lunch than I was, and left feeling rather fuller than I did. (But you can't judge by him, he was in the war.) As usual, I ask to have the leftovers wrapped to go, so I won't hurt the waiters' feelings, but I always leave feeling like they're thinking, "Colonizing SHE-DEMON!" Arguably, this is projection on my part.More
A very tasty buffet of a variety of dishes, with meat and without. The flavors are wonderful. It's quick and reasonably priced. It's so good I always eat more than I intend to....just have to go back for a little more of that....... Efficient and...friendly service.More
What a treat for your senses ! Taj Cafe is everything that Punjabi hospitality is about - right from the server to the owner, everyone is immensely respectful, thoughtful, humble and thankful for customer's presence. It was very refreshing to finally find a restaurant in...the USA that serves such terrifically flavored Indian food, exactly as good as what I ate growing up. Starting with tomato chutney and sample of amritsari chole, I was in for a nostalgic ride back home. Then fish pakode, thali, kheer and gajar ka halwa just kept on adding to the pile. They were kind enough to give us a free to-go order of gajar ka halwa that we ate on our drive to Tahoe. If you are ever cruising 101, the trip would be incomplete without visiting this superb restaurant. I know I will be going there back again (a zillion times!).More
