We had an excellent meal at Yakiniku on a week night. Excellent sake (a bit pricey but worth it) and a delicious mix of beef, seafood and fresh vegetables. We happily cooked our different cuts of beef over the center grill, enjoyed the seafood and...veggies in a pleasant ambiance. Not crowded and great for conversation. Service was attentive and helpful. We will be back.More

This is my first taste of Japanese barbecue, and it was delicious! I had the scallops and my son had beef tongue and we both enjoyed the food. In addition we ordered kimchi and vegetables for the barbecue as well. Everything was fresh and flavorful....The soy sauce they prepare in-house is unbelievable. I recommend this place.More

There are a few Japanese Yakiniku places in the city, and I'd say Yakiniku Gen is simply average. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Just no frills and pretty standard. The service is also a little shoddy, and you'll have difficulty flagging someone down to change out...the grill plates.More

Extraordinary. The best Japanese BBQ we’ve had so far. Awesome service. It was packed when we came in on a Thursday night. We waited for almost an hour. Make sure to get a reservation. We’re already planning when to come back. :-)

I think this restaurant stopped to open at lunch time, but whenever I go, I saw a lot of people laughing ,smiling with each other ,that is a little bit rare in N.Y. A safe place.

We were looking for a bowl of Ramen but the place we were originally looking for only took cash so we ended up next door at this Gen restaurant. What a find though. Customers cook their own meat/seafood/vegetables using the grill in the middle of...each table. However, the quality of all the ingredients is top notch. Would highly recommend Kaisen mori [snow crab, scallop, + shrimp], honetsuki [bone-in short rib]. Were were there at 5 or so and enjoyed Yakiniku beef assorted (happy hour was til 7pm).More

One of the guys that worked at our hotel raved about this place. I could tell he genuinely loved it, so we went. We concur, the people are very friendly, and the food was great. Authentic Japanese BBQ that you cook yourself at your table....Great food, unique and fun experience, affordable, we highly recommend checking this place out.More

Broaden your palate of Japanese food treats to include excellent cooked meats and fish dishes; traditional fare of exotic vegetables and sauces. Huge menu with many curious selections, like a multi-layered shredded pork, cabbage, miso sauce and cheese, and odd treats like Hot Dogs and...Hamburgers! Don't be mistaken though, Riki serves some of the best Japanese favorites in Manhattan, with friendly service, moderate prices, excellent Saki and fresh fish! Enjoy!More
