Extremely disappointing experience from a 2 Michelin Star restaurant at sky high prices. There was nothing special about the food (other than the fluke first course) or the service. The whole night made us wonder if this restaurant is relying on past glory.

While the restaurant is priced like a Michelin 2-star, our party had a hard time believing the rating is current. The service was very slow and came in infrequent, frenzied waves. For instance, it took an hour -- that's not an exaggeration, it was timed...at 65 minutes -- from when we sat down to receiving our wine. Then our 1st and 2nd courses were served with about 2 minutes in between. The food could be remarkable, but also just pretty ordinary bistro fare. At a cost of $140 pp (and only half our party drank anything), the expectations come far higher. It was a beautiful dining room, but that doesn't remotely deliver on what we hoped for. Avoid.More

My partner and I are visiting as many Michelin-starred restaurants with outdoor dining spaces as we can to compensate for the lack of travels and social life during the Covid19 pandemic. We both agree that Gabriel Kreuther's restaurant is a cut above the rest and...we highly recommend it. The outdoor space is spacious, neat, elegant and gated i.e. strangers won't be awkwardly walking near your table while you are eating. I chose the Bryant Park menu with: Foie Gras Terrine and Pistachio Praline (amazing flavour and beautifully presented), Cod (rather simple, fresh and nice) and Chocolate Sundae (a velvety dream). My partner had the Housemade Trenne Pasta for starter (a generous portion, creamy and crunchy flavours, perfectly cooked pasta), the Steak Frites (a perfectly cooked and juicy meat cut accompanied with the perfect fries - not at all easy) and the Apple Mille Feuille (the most amazing dessert we have tried in a long time - original, tasty and beautiful to look at!). I loved the Sipping Emotions cocktail and my partner enjoyed his draught beer. The complimentary desserts were several little chocolate pralines and two buttery biscuits, all majestically prepared and presented. Staff were nice and professional, and they made the overall experience very pleasant. By comparison with similar restaurants, and considering the amazing overall quality, we found it reasonably priced. We will certainly go back!More

Each year, for our wedding anniversary, my wife and I like to try out a different 5-star, too-expensive restaurant to celebrate. In 2019 we chose Gabriel Kreuther based on reviews here, on other online sources. While the food and service were very good, I found...the overall experience to be fairly unremarkable and not terribly memorable. However, what will always stay with me from our evening at Gabriel Kruether is what happened with the tip. When the charge for the evening was posted to my credit card account, I immediately noticed that it did not include the tip. I wasn't sure if I had failed to note the tip, or forgot to sign the receipt, or the restaurant had simply overlooked including the tip when it processed the transaction. But the source of the problem didn't really matter much, it needed to be corrected. I immediately called the restaurant and left a message, which was never returned. I then decided to go back to the restaurant the next afternoon to correct the error. In a more traditional situation I would've just handed cash to our waiter/waitress then-and-there to rectify the situation. But, at Gabriel Kreuther you are served by numerous members of the staff, so that wasn't really an option. One of the manager's said the office was locked and was unable to find the paperwork to see what might've happened. He appreciated my concern and integrity, and offered to simply let it go. I was astonished that he was so 'kind' in his offer to keep well-earned money from his staff, and refused his suggestion. I then offered that he could simply swipe my credit card for the amount of the tip to quickly and easily take care of the situation. He said that wasn't necessary, and once he could get to the records in the office, he'll put through the charge for the tip. He never followed through on this promise. After a call and a return visit, I wasn't sure what else to do to ensure that the hard-working staff got their well-deserved tip. I don't know if my experience was a one-off anomaly or not, but I thought that sharing the experience with patrons, and staff (even though a year after the incident) would help to ensure it is not repeated.More

Three of us had a most memorable dinner at Gabriel Kreuther. While every one of the 10 courses on the tasting menu was simply delicious, we especially enjoyed the potato with black truffle (outstanding), the halibut (glorious), the veal (incredible), and the sunchoke (phenomenal). And,...when someone had a problem with an ingredient (shellfish, for example) the entire dish was replaced with something equally as tasty. Dessert matched the courses in quality of taste and was a great end to the evening. The wine pairings were remarkable as was the service. Be sure to leave enough time for the full meal as it takes well over 2 hours. We started as the restaurant opened and needed to leave for a play before the dessert was served. So, the wait staff invited us to return after the play so that nothing was rushed. It worked exceptionally well. However, that is obviously not the best way to have the meal. By the way, the food was much better than the play. Highly recommend that you enjoy an evening at Gabriel KreutherMore

Outstanding. This is no word that can describe better this restaurant. They have two set menus; a short one and an extended one. Due to some food restrictions we chose the short one. There was no dish that failed us. All were tasteful, delicious and...beautifully presented. Service was courteous and professional. Decor and ambiance is relaxing and pleasant.More

We celebrated our anniversary at Gabriel Kreuther 2 weeks ago. The service and the food were both above reproach. We were impressed by the variety of flavors and the perfection of the preparation. The staff was unobtrusive and helpful; the sommelier was knowledgeable. ( We...ordered the wine pairing). We like to experience the chef's vision, so we ordered the Carte Blanche tasting menu of 9 courses: fantastic, but too much food for me! While the decor lacks the knock-out glamor of Per Se or the quiet elegance of Le Bernardin, the room quietly quotes Chef Kreutzer's native Alsace with soaring wood beams.More

The food is not typical french food, more of a light European but incredibly flavorful and beautiful menu, sometimes with Asian or local market influences, but almost always fabulously delicious. They switched to a tasting menu format in 2019 (a shame since we prefer choosing...our own dishes) but even with that switch, we are always extremely pleased with the food. Our favorite restaurant in NYC. We usually get the heritage menu due to food sensitivities. I recommend asking the waiter to go over the dishes before dining as some courses are served as 2 options, e.g. a fruity light dessert versus a chocolate dessert. From experience, they are able to accommodate gluten, nut, mushroom, and shellfish sensitivities. Recommend beef main dishes over pork and duck for best flavor. Even though individual portions are small, the sum total of the meal leaves you well satisfied.More
