We had heard a lot of positive about The Ribbon, but it didn't live up to the hype.
Or experience ranged from terrible to great during one meal.
We got seated, but efter a few minutes the waiter asked us to move to another table since they had a large party coming and needed our table. No problems with that.
We ordered our food:
The Ribbon Steak, the meat was very nice, the peppercorn sauce was very average, fries perfect.
Salmon with buttered leeks was uninspiring, very average.
For the kids we got a burger, and it was the worst ever, it was bread and a patty. nothing else. I've never seen a sadder burger,
What they did do very well was the customer care, we got comped the kids meals and they treated us to a spread of desserts on the house. These desserts were all awesome.
Generally missing any kinds of fresh vegetables accompanying the main dishes.
High and low, we might give them a second chance.

Great restaurant, we found two seats at the bar. Great service. The burger was cooked perfectly and the shoestring fries were very good. Nice touch with the side of pickles. My wife had the white bean soup, which was excellent, great flavor, right temperature and very flavorful. It was the soup of the day. The quality of the soup told us they had a great kitchen. My wife also had a ceasar salad which was the right size, temperature and freshness. I was surprised to find a great restaurant so close to time square.

Really yummy brisket meal. The fresh pretzel appetizer is good but small for the price. We liked this spot. Our Seamless delivery came fast from here and food was perfectly warm when it arrived.

Walked in after a show for a late dinner.
We were sedated upstairs in a tiny booth for two next to a very busy 8 top that was doing business on their computers,of hitch there were many.
They could have sat us way away from that table but they didn’t.
Our server took about 10 minutes to show and then another 10 to get water and drinks.
The oysters were very good, the pate a bit dry.
my hubs got the pumpkin soup and it was fine and the Amish chicken which was good but unremarkable. I think we would have enjoyed it more if our server was wanting to do her job. We won’t be back.

Thank you for sharing your recent experience. We appreciate the time you took to write your review as it helps us improve the overall quality of the restaurant. Which night did you come in to dine with us? do you remember your servers name or what they looked like so we may re train them? This way they do not repeat this service to any of our other guests. I do apologize greatly as this is not part of our service standards. As an apology, we would like to invite you back for Chef selected appetizers on us for up to 4 people on your next visit.

We made reservations to The Ribbon during restaurant week to eat before going to the "Jagged Little Pill" broadway show across the street. We had enough time, ordered everything upfront and told our server that we were going to the show. Everything took FOREVER to arrive, like 25+ minutes for a drink and so much longer for the main courses. I had the lobster curry and it was really good, I wish I had more time to enjoy it.
We had to take the desert course to go and were still late to the show. Every table around us was waiting for a long time and we were told it was kitchen delays. Our server was very nice about it and they comped our drinks.

Upper West Side industrial meets old world tavern vibe with a large space including a private room for an intimate party. We arrived earlier than our reservation and were seated quickly. The restaurant was just about filled by the time we left around 8pm. Well staffed with nice service, two of us ordered from the Restaurant Week menu and two from the regular menu. The RW menu was varied. We had mussels and shrimp scampi for appetizer and branzino and hangar steak from the RW dinner menu; off the regular menu, French dip sandwich and steak. Everything was great including cocktails. Ice cream and coffee for dessert were also really tasty.
This location is close to the Central Park entrance near Imagine and Strawberry fields. The entire evening gets an all around thumbs up from all of us.

My wife and I took our yearly trip to New York and wanted a new place to try before heading over to see The Lion King. The Ribbon was very near by the theater and the web-site indicated it was Restaurant Week. When we arrived, we found that it actually wasn't Restaurant Week as advertised, but we were still happy to be in the bustling atmosphere and the trendy decor.
I got the short ribs and my wife got the seafood curry dish and we can say that both were mouthwatering and wonderful. It was very tough to find a wine that would pair well with these two disparate dishes, but my wife has a wonderful knack of doing that and chose Holdredge Pinot Noir - russian River Valley, and it was fantastic with both dishes. We also split an amazing Chocolate Bruno with ice cream afterwards, which was amazing.
The food was spectacular, the wine fantastic and the atmosphere was electric and fun. It isn't necessarily the place for a quiet, romantic dinner, but it was a great place to have a wonderful meal before a show.

For us, this is a neighborhood restaurant that is great for foodies, families, a group gathering, the bar scene or just a good overall meal. We had the Restaurant week special and it did not disappoint; nice choices and more than enough food. I have to say 3 of the 4 of us ate the Lobster and shrimp in curry and it was outstanding. One thing that can be difficult to endure is the noise level unless you are in and out before 7 pm expect it to get loud, very loud. Other than that, there are delicious choices for everyone. 4 out of 5 only because of the noise.

We arrived at 21:00, after trying to reserve a table through online, with no luck. At our arrival, the lady at the front tried to deny us a table inside as she said: "it was full". Looking inside, it was totally the opposite and so we insisted that she could go and check with the staff if there was any, something that at that point was evident. They finally gave us one of the many available tables inside the restaurant. Not quite comfortable by that point.
We were celebrating, so we tried to overcome the initial situation, and quickly chose the Arugula salad and the Vegetable Risotto. Both very good. The salad was delicious, the leaves, the camote, the zucchini, the parmesan cheese and the dressing very well combined. The risotto was wonderful. The temperature. Every vegetable in the right cooking point, crunchy, amazing.

Very busy when arrived for reservation on time, asked to stand to side to wait for table, stood there for 10 minutes until seated. 30 minutes later I went to bar to get drinks as no server attended table. When they did, was told that need to order quickly or he would have to go to another table, so we ordered quickly as didn’t want to wait another half hour!
Didn’t get asked if we wanted any further drinks in the meantime, so again went to the bar, walked past manager on the way and enquired if they were short staffed, he confirmed and apologised and offered a free round of drinks to our table. Our food arrived and 20 minutes had passed so i enquired where our drinks were and again manager apologised saying the bartender had lost the ticket. The drinks arrived after we had finished the meal.
The place is nice, the food good if pricey, but the service was shocking and other than the manager not very friendly. Not sure if they were understaffed, as when we left around 9, the place had emptied and staff were sat around chatting.
It was a shame, as this would have been a really nice way to finish our family Xmas day in the city.

Dinner spoiled by dog next to us, who knocked over his water bowl onto our feet and strained on his leash to reach us. I'm not sure why people think it's OK to bring dogs to a nice restaurants, and why management allows them (pets, not service dogs). In fact, management was oblivious to our discomfort and missed these folks feeding their dog water from the water glasses. The food was OK, but not enough to overcome the place going to the dogs.

instead of the menu published on the official website of the restaurant for the week of restaurants in New York, they offer the usual menu with the usual prices. the manager apologizes that they allowed a mistake with the menu on the restaurant's website. terrible service and terrible food (sandwich and burger for $70). Total crap

The Ribbon on 72nd Street is a very comfortable space with great service and terrific food. The happy hour( 4 to 7pm) is a terrific value. Oysters are cold, chicken tenders crispy and delicious, sliders are good , drinks are well made, etc. Check out the full menu as well. We've been there for lunch and are never disappointed.

Would have been a lovely Christmas meal as the food was delicious but the service was terrible. Staff generally just rude and dismissive. We were seated late and then waited a further half an hour just to be asked if we wanted drinks. Staff said they were busy but there was no real apology and we were made to feel like it was our problem. Would return which is a shame.
