This has to be some of the softest, tastiest and creamiest cheesecake I have had. We stopped off as part of our walking tour and I am so glad I followed the advice and bought one. The little salted caramel pecan cheesecake was superb and I finished it off, but never got the chance to go back for more. It... More

This is a little place that packs a big bite! It may be small inside, however the taste they deliver is enormous! The caramel pecan is to die for! The cheesecake is light and fluffy and full of flavor. After grabbing a bite in Little Italy, this is a great place to have dessert. You should get 4 in a... More

This tasted like typical japanese style cheesecake, light n fluffy, but nothing too special. Had the cheesecake at lady m at the Rockefeller centre, that tasted better.

We had the classic and the blueberry, they were both extraordinary, soft and delicious, not too sweet or fatty as you'd expect from a typical American dessert. I have also appreciated that the size was small so you could easy try two different kinds out of the maaaaany they can offer. Must say that the girl at the counter was... More

Small local shop with only a few tables but good coffee and a massive variety of delicious cheesecakes, most available in "perfect for one" size. The cost per pie decreases the more you buy which makes the difficulty of just choosing one that much easier. Eileen herself is still very hands on and much in evidence. The walls are decorated... I did very much enjoyed the little shop on almost the corner. Small, but with pictures remembering all the times before. Very nice. However, it was no extra ordinary experience. The staff was not particularly nice, not even a little smile as your order was up. The cake it self was too much for my part, it was sort of... More

My 13-year-old daughter and I try this out today in the late afternoon after a great tour at the tenement museum. We started out sharing two, the caramel pecan and the raspberry white chocolate. They were so delicious and yet light and fluffy that we felt we could have two more! So we tried the mango and the coffee crème... More

Description
Eileen's Special Cheesecake opened for business in December, 1975, and arrived in lower Manhattan on December 4, 1976. It was a "ghost town" when I first arrived, but that didn't bother me because the rent was low and I desperately needed a place to bake for my growing wholesale business. I hadn't considered the retail aspects of the business until people started knocking on the door of the bakery wanting to buy cheesecake. With that encouragement, I purchased a bakery case and began to conduct retail business. Soon after our cheesecake attracted the press and we were listed in "Best Bites" in New York Magazine. Radio station WOR rated us "Number One Cheesecake" and we appeared on television quite often whipping up batters of cheesecake. Time passed, and now Cleveland Place is in a popular area where the mix of people and restaurants and shops are so unique. Downtown is becoming the "place to be", and we are actually on most maps now. We survived difficult times, and now "let the good times roll"!

Staying in Nolita

Neighborhood Profile
Nolita
Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for “North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighborhood is popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping, there are cozy restaurants and sidewalk cafes serving everything from new-school Italian food to the world-famous cronuts. While small in size (Nolita stretches just a few blocks in each direction), it’s a great neighborhood to spend an afternoon people watching, window-shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat.
