I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. This restaurant offers a variety of fresh fish. The focus is on the quality of the sashimi and not on the maki rolls. Most of the rolls are standard, with nothing particularly creative. We didn't really like the seaweed salad, but everything else was great. Overall good, but overpriced for what it offered.

i have been at Kanoyama many times. this time I did not enjoy ourselves. I felt that the food was thrown at us like in a diner rather than being served as a high end restaurant.

Seated immediately, but we ate early. We had great service- anyone walking by our table seemed aware and willing to help us - instead of having to wait for our designated server. This makes sense if you want to turn your tables over, but we didn't feel rushed. We had our usual sashimi order, which was excellent.

Yummy! Got the Sushi and Sashimi and was in heaven! Too bad I had to share with 3 others! My daughter is adventurous and got the uni with quail egg - she liked it! We shared oysters on the half shell and they were fresh and delicious. Service was attentive and polite. Excellent dinner, wonderful evening.

Absolutely great. Excellent and very decently priced sushi, everyone in the restaurant seems to be happy and for good reason, we had mixed sashimi and sushi that were fresh and extremely tastey, all served with charm and respectfulness. Splendid.

This is with no doubt The best sushi I ever had. I have high standards, especially when it comes to the quality of the fish, but this was great.

This a good Sushi restaurant; we went as a family, we enjoyed the service which was impeccable. The portions are ample, the quality of the fish was excellent, and so were the other dishes. However, I wasn't impressed with the quality of the rolls; although decent, but not at par with the rest of the food. We would definitely go... More

High quality sushi and wonderful appetizers both hot and cold. We have been to Japan over 10 times and Kanoyama is like a trip to a traditional neighborhood of Tokyo. The Omakase Sashimi or Sushi is wonderful tradition and freshness We had the summer appetizers of soft shell crab and corn tempura which was recommended and delightful good selection on... More

I can never get tired of eating here because the chef is so creative and the fish is so fresh that each and every single time ends up being an amazing experience. Chef Nobu is a true gentleman too. He remembers you very well and even if you show up two months later you will know you're the guy who... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
