We tried their chocolate chip cookies (both the regular and dark chocolate), their raspberry jelly donuts and banana choc chip bread and have to go back for more!! Wish they hadn't run out of the butter and jelly baguettes!

The line at this 74th St. location can get ridiculously long because it is such a tight space. There's a new location that had opened right around the corner, a few blocks down, at 351 Amsterdam Avenue (between 76th & 77th St.) to address that...More

The chocolate peanut butter cookie was quite good - not too sweet, but very heavy. The oatmeal raising was way too sweet - like the sugar hadn’t been thoroughly mixed in. Not worth a special trip, but nice if you’re in the neighborhood.

A friend had recommended I stop by Levain Bakery on my recent trip to NYC and I was not disappointed! The cookies were warm (not sure if they were fresh out of the oven, or because it's hot-as-hell-July). The flavor was excellent, cookies gigantic, far...More

Excellent cookies at this tiny downstairs location. A special spot. The lines can be long depending on the time of day and month you visit. Very minimal counter seating - perhaps four spots. You will not find cookies like this anywhere else. Treat yourself at...More

I would say 1-2 days. The decadent cookie is soft and the chocolate gooey. Just had them again yesterday!

Description
Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.
