I was asked to bring some cookies home from my trip. I gave the taxi the address to Levain Bakery. He pulls up to this big line leading to a basement bakery. I took my place in line. It moved quick. The cookies are gigantic....More

Want a REAL treat? treat yourself to a chocolate chip cookie at Levain. Warning, it will be the size of a large muffin and will ruin you for any other cookie after. Just thinking about it make me salivate. Nom nom nom.
Nestled between Central Park and the Hudson River, the Upper West Side offers iconic architecture and a quiet, residential respite from the buzzing energy of downtown. Along Central Park West are many of the city’s most iconic apartment buildings, as well as the American Museum of Natural History, which has been welcoming visitors to its historic exhibit halls for over 140 years. Culture fans will love Lincoln Center,
home to some of the world’s best opera, dance, film, and theater performances, all centrally located around a beautiful fountain. Spanning the entire length of the Upper West Side, Riverside Park is ideal for a long, leisurely stroll in a quiet green space.

I find the line is shortest as soon as they open (get there 5 minutes before opening if you really want to go in & out). Even when we go at opening time, by the time we leave with our purchases, there's a line. There's also a Levain further uptown, but UWS is easiest to get to & centrally located near subway, Central & Riverside Parks, etc ... BTW, Riverside Park has great playgrounds for toddlers & youngsters: e.g., in Riverside, Elephant Park near 76th has sprinklers, Little Engine near 69th is great for the 'under three' crowd; & there's another great sprinkler playground up the stairs at Museum of Natural History on Columbus near 77-81st, steps from Central Park .... have fun!
