Many places in NYC are overrated but this one is not! The cookies are to die for and practically melt in your mouth. They are delicious.

Absolutely loved Levain. The choc chip and walnut cookie was delicious and not sickly sweet at all. Worth the 20 minute plus wait. Loved the efficiency inside the bakery.

I'm a chocoholic and all my friends to,d me I had to check this place out. I got there at about 3 pm, there was a long line on the sunny side of the street. But I persevered and it was well worth it. The liNe moved pretty quickly and yes, these are the most delicious cookies around.

Early morning, the bakery doesn't have a line around the block and the bakery is resplendent with the most delicious smells! A true sensory overload as the dark chocolate chip cookie still warm explodes with taste into my mouth!! I'm sure that I'm wearing the smile of a 4 year old as everyone smiles and we all extoll the various... More

These are not wimpy cookies, these are fists full of melt in your mouth goodness, so good, I was afraid for my waist line as I could not say no to these amazing scone sized cookies. I also had the butter and jam baguette with a coffee, wonderful way to start my day exploring the city. Worth the price, bring... More

First, I love when a place does not publish their recipes. There is an added allure to the mystery of the unknown! The bakery was bustling but the staff was very kind and efficient, a great combination! It may seem like a pricey cookie but when you hold it in your hand, you will understand why. It is heavy. Do... But, if you have the patience, you will be rewarded. What is that word: yes, toothsome. French bread, butter, and jam is absolute perfection. Crusty exterior, soft aromatic interior, elegant simplicity. Love the scones...but chocolate chip cookies; just too sweet.

You must go to the Levain Bakery! Cookies are so good. I had the chocolate chip walnut and my daughter had the dark chocolate peanut butter. She is not a dark chocolate fan so it wasn't too dark. Chunks of peanut butter throughout. Best thing is that they are warm. I want to go back!!

Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.
