Sfoglia is a lovely little trattoria residing on an unassuming stretch of the Upper East Side, across the street from the 92nd Street Y. Farmhouse tables topped with the season's produce are the appropriate setting for Sfoglia's country Italian fare. The private dining room tucked away upstairs can seat an intimate party of twelve.

Slightly quirky place that would be at home in a college town

Sfoglia has really good Italian food. The surroundings are characterized by mismatched furniture and quirky decor. The servers are sophisticated, thoroughly modern and rather friendly. They handle large groups well and while the bill can be substantial, the food is excellent.

I make a point of dining at Sfoglia every time I travel to New York. Quite simply, one of the most delightful and rewarding restaurant experiences in the city, perfect for entertaining a colleague or encouraging a romance. Food, ambience, service -- all are five-star. I would kill to have this restaurant closer to home!

I had two dinners here three weeks apart this summer. The first, a party of two, was SUBLIME. Every aspect -- the service, the wine recommendations, the flawless food -- were perfection. Each ingredients is the finest, including the divine bread made in house, the fruity dipping olive oil -- all excellent. We enjoyed the antipasti de la casa, an... More

Dining at Sfoglia is a return to the day when neighborhood restaurants had the best food in the city. This wonderful restaurant, with a simple, expertly presented and prepared menu and wine list is easily a five star. And not just a Trip Advisor five star - Sfoglia has the best pasta in the city, on par with the pasta... More

My partner and I went to Sfoglia on our visit to NY and were really disappointed. The restsurant itself and the ambience is terrific...but it definitely stopped there for us. None of the dishes came close to satisfactory. I had a chicken dish...and I mean the dish only comprised two pieces if chicken, one piece of which was undercooked!!! The... More

We were encouraged to go here by some friends who come to NYC several times a year and makes this a regular stop. The food was terrific and we really liked the look of the place. They sat us downstairs and we liked the feel of the lower ceiling. The wait staff is attentive. They do a great job of... More

I need to go bace to fully evaluate this restaurant. The service was excellent as was the abbience. However the food needs another look. The pasta was overcooked and the Chard was undercooked, while the dessert was just taken out of the refridgerator and served too cold. We were the only partyin the restaurant for lunch, and this shows either... More

Ahhhh, everything was perfect - interesting, tasty and unusual antipasti; wonderful salads; perfect entrees including the highly acclaimed chicken and pappardelle alla bolognese. We had a party of 8 and requested family style servings which the waiter accommodated, even though it was last minute. The vegetable sides were yummy and all desserts were to die for, the best chocolate cake... More

The experience starts when you are received at the entrance, even without reservation. A homy atmosphere immediately flows and welcomes you. Not two tables are the same. They come straight from homes. What is special about the food, is that it is different from what every Italian restaurant serves in new York. Variety of pasta, great antipasti and delicious deserts... More

We ate here before attending an event at the 92nd Y across the street and it was superb. The bolognese sauce was to die for and the service was impeccable. It is a bit pricey but great service and energetic vibe!

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
