This was our first visit to the State Bar and Grill (although only my husband had not been to the Empire State Building before). The restaurant is situated at ground level (probably be a more magical experience if it was located higher up the building but there will be reasons for that) and is beautifully decorated in keeping with the Art Deco styling of the building. Even the back of the chairs have Art Deco design on them. Our Lunch was booked as part of a special combination of Empire Sate Building entrance and Lunch, so it was slightly cheaper and only moderately restricted to the Starter and Main Course. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly and the restaurant was very busy on the day we visited, but we did not feel rushed or pressure to eat our meal quickly, which we appreciated as it was a nice way to round off our visit. It was also lovely and warm and nicely decorated on a day when the temperature outside was Minus 8 degrees and even colder at the top of the building! Drinks orders were taken promptly as we perused the Menu and a choice of bread is also served, although the Sourdough was really quite tough. For our Starters we had Seafood Chowder which was rich, creamy and full of flavour; Soup of the Day, which was Spicy Tomato Soup served with bread (and staff checked up that it was not too spicy, which was a nice touch) and Crispy Crab Cakes which were nicely presented and very tasty. Our Main Courses were Steak Frite Medium, which was well cooked but not inspiring; Spaghetti with a Bolognese sort of sauce, which was a large portion and perfectly acceptable and the Burger cooked Medium.which came with delicate fries and was a large portion too. Water glasses are kept filled and staff check that everything is satisfactory as you eat. Toilets are downstairs and are very impressive. They are accessible by everyone as you are able to use a lift to go down. The restauarnt itself is also fully accessible to everyone and staff are most helpful if people have any disabililtes or difficulties. To drink we had draft Stella beers and water. The Bill reflected the location of the restaurant and was therefore as expected at around $92 (with addition of suggested 18% or 20% gratuity). It was a very nice experience and we would recommend it to anyone.

At the last minute, we chose to celebrate my birthday meal here as we had booked to see the Empire State Building and has been recommended to do it at night and figured it would kill two birds by being right near and boy are we glad we did....everything was stunning from start to finish. The restaurant was reasonably quiet (Tuesday Feb 11th) and offered a relaxing atmosphere with a smart art deco style interior. We ordered some drinks and was advised by our waiter who was attentive, polite and helpful to try the Oranchello Cosmopolitan which was excellent. The hostess was also brilliant by taking some pictures for us, showing me where the restrooms were and complimenting me on my outfit. We were also offered complimentary bread and water which is always a nice touch to start out with. For the mains we decided on the swordfish and the beef rib both of which were absolutely delicious. Once we had finished our food, another waiter came over with a plate of cookies and brownies that had a Happy Birthday plaque and a candle in which was a lovely personal touch and really topped off the evening nicely. This was truly a night to remember and i'm really glad we chose to spend my birthday night here and will definitely be revisiting on our return trip. Thank you for your hospitality-keep up the good work! :-)

60th birthday celebration with a delicious meal at this beautiful restaurant. Great food and service made for a night to remember. The restaurant is situated on the ground floor which makes for easy access. Definitely worth considering.

Five of us went for dinner after visiting the Empire State Building, it is just around the corner, 2 minutes away. The place is well decorated and they placed us at a round table next to the entrance. We were very surprised by the prices... very high! for the dishes they offered. A simple glass of wine is $19, a beer is $9 and a hamburger is $28. We had a Caesar salad to which they added a chicken fillet and they charged us about two dishes. The burger was good. Not worth it. We will not return.

Little gem of a place. Wandered in on a Tuesday and experienced happy hour and the most amazing food. Staff were so friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Took the waiters food recommendation and had salmon cooked to perfection paired with delicious Pinot Grigio.

Fantastic service and the best NY strip I’ve had in ages. Not too noisy, nice relaxed style but still feels a bit more special. We booked the fixed price dinner as part of the trip up the Empire State and we’ll worth it! Had a really lovely time…

This is a really stylish eatery. Great service and food. We ate a variety of things across the board, from burgers, to the chicken to mac & cheese. All cooked to perfection! The deserts are worth sampling and sharing, from fantastic home made cheesecake to devine ice cream sandwiches 👌

The food was great! I had the burger and my friend ordered a steak- both were perfectly cooked. I can’t say enough about how incredible the staff was!! Our server was so friendly and attentive. The manager went out of his way to make sure we were having a good experience and even called the observation deck to let them know we’d be late for our reservation. The real standout was our host, however (and I’m so sad I can’t remember his name but at least we took a selfie with him!) He helped us in because my friend was in a wheelchair and helped us to the observation lobby so that we wouldn’t have to walk outside in the rain. The whole experience was amazing!!!! I highly recommend this restaurant!

I give 3 stars only because the meat was actually very good. The place is furnished in a somewhat old way. They put 20% service on the bill and then ask you for a tip. The prices on the receipt were higher than the menu. They justified themselves by saying that the next day the prices would change, we noticed and they fixed it.

Delicious dinner at State Grill and Bar. We did the preset menu and paid in advance. Every item is so delicious. The waitress and staff are so friendly and accommodating. We ate at 6:30 then went up to Empire Observation deck for 8:00 pm night sky viewing.

Thomas at the bar was awesome. The inside is very pretty and elegant . Our drinks were perfect and he even put my wife’s drink in a martini glass for a photo op even though she just had a regular cocktail. Great conversation with all employees and even the manager stopped by to say hello. Would recommend for cocktails.

Very expensive meal for 3 people, difficult to get explanations about the dishes. Very disappointed in the quality of the cuisine, burger has truffle without truffles, another dish with a burnt taste, up to coffee which was undrinkable. The bar area is very close to the restaurant room, so very noisy. Address I advise against

Popped in for a steak ahead of going up the Empire State Building. Terrific food and service….might be considered a bit pricey but it’s Manhattan and the restaurant is tranquil and you get looked after with good food!

We were let down by OneDine at One World Observatory who cancelled our reservation for a 21st Birthday for no reason at the last minute. We managed to book the State Bar & Grill instead and honestly thank god we did. The meal, service, Restaurant, everything was amazing. They made a huge fuss over my son who we were celebrating his 21st Birthday even bringing a cake out at the end for him. The staff were amazing. Can't thank them enough. Would highly recommend.

Enjoyed an excellent meal at the Grill on our recent visit to New York. The mains were quite pricey (45 Dollars) but the quality was excellent. Really nice Art Deco interior and so much more relaxed and spaced out than other restaurants we’d been to. We could even read the menu. Really worth a visit.

Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
