We used to come here from LI with my parents, who were frustrated that we would only order egg rolls, spare ribs, and fried rice. As kids, our palette never changed, and we always loved the classics at Wo Hop - the elderly waiters in their light blue jackets, the crammed comfort of the basement dining room, the yellowing autographed celebrity photos on the walls. Menu says "since 1938" and with my order of cold sesame noodles and an eggroll, the price of $9.46 (cash only) also seemed of that era. A truly wonderful experience.

I know good chinese food and this is not that food. The food is an Americanized version of chinese food. The egg rolls were ok, but nothing special. The dipping sauce was a sweet sauce without much flavor. The won ton soup was a thickened broth with strips of pork and wontons filled with a flavorless ground meet. Shrimp fried rice was mediocre. The blue crabs were covered in very oily meat sauce. This made a very messy dish for purposes of eating. I do not recommend this place. I should have known better when the only people of Chinese origin in the restaurant were the waiters.

I'd had a recommendation for this place from a local, and having missed out before, was determined to get in this time. It was a chilly night and we finally managed to find the little entrance down the steps. There was a queue of about 4 people, but once you reach the door you see why - It's tiny! The turnaround is pretty good though, so we weren't waiting for long and also, it's worth it! The food is exactly as you'd imagine and there plenty of it! The decor is fun, with dollar bills stuck all over the walls - Unsure how they'd be coping with social distancing, etc, but this was a different time! Great food, typical brusque / quick service, and very reasonable prices

This place was recommended to us but I'm not sure why! The place is dirty the food greasy the staff are rude and we were forced to pay a $6 tip - 16% of our bill! When we queried the charge as the receipt just has random prices on it we were told we had to pay it as it as it was the law ( this is a tip not tax). We ended up paying it just so we could leave. Not sure how they got their A grade hygiene but I wouldnt recommend it to anyone

We Ordered shrimp egg foo young, General Tso’s chicken, chicken with vegetables, and chicken fried rice. The rice was actually really good. But everything else was mediocre at best. I wasn’t impressed. Have had better Chinese food at urban strip malls. I wouldn’t come back.

The food was average but the atmosphere was horrible, the bathrooms looked like they haven’t been washed in years, the waiter took a long time to bring out my order and got it wrong, and at the end my total came out to around $25 I gave him a $5 tip which I thought was nice considering it was a 20% tip. When I was outside I hear my waiter running over to me asking for a higher tip. I didn’t want to be rude so I gave him another dollar and left before he said anything else.

I knew while I was in NYC that I had to get Chinese food in Chinatown, but I had no idea where to go. A tour guide told me to go to Wo Hop "and get an egg roll, wonton soup, and a roast pork fried rice." That was my exact order, and the waiter did look at me like I might have cleaned the back for some reason. However, I'm no stickler for service, and the man could've cursed at me because the food was so good. The egg roll was massive and golden brown, the wonton soup had a very strong broth and silky wontons, and the small mountain of fried rice was perfect. This surprisingly came out to $8 which is insane for the amount of food. I will say it's a bit cramped, and the seating plan isn't terribly self-explanatory. The waiter seemed very frustrated with me not understanding how it worked, but I got sat down eventually.

This is a funny little place, but it’s been around for years, and you’ll probably need to wait in line for a table - both of those things tell you something. This isn’t the place for a romantic date or a highbrow business meeting. It is a place you can experience what New York’s Chinatown is about, with some really good quality, tasty and inexpensive food. Give it a try, you’ll be pleased you did.

We have dined at Wo Hop 17, the basement restaurant, for many years and always had a great meal. We ate there on Wednesday Sept 28 for dinner around 6:00 pm. We chose to eat in the dining shed outside. The waiter quickly seated us and took our order. We ordered chicken Lo Mein and Pork Fried Rice along with an order of fried chicken wings. This is what we typically order so we remember the days when the food tasted good. So our meal arrives and it literally had NO Flavor. No, seasoning, no salt etc. even after dumping packets of soy sauce on our dishes. The real clue though was that there was no one waiting in line like there used to be. I think that they served us warmed up leftovers. Anyway, we have written this place off. Such a shame that a great place that was even mentioned in the NY Times Sunday paper a couple weeks ago as a place as a late night place to get Chinese food after a Broadway play now closes at 10:00PM. I guess the pandemic has changed everything up and not in good way.

Wo hop never disappoints . Haven’t been here in years but experiences the same excellent service and AMAZING food at very low prices . This is traditional Chinese food at its best! 5-6 won tons in each bowl. Excellent large portions . Fed 5 people with a lot of leftovers for only $80 with tip

The food was delicious! BUT my son has a Shellfish allergy. When he ordered he specifically asked if his dish had any shellfish in it and was told no. We then ordered some egg rolls to start. My son had the egg roll 1 inch from his mouth when I saw it had shrimp in it and stopped him. Thank God I saw it. Perhaps note the shrimp on the menu. Shrimp isn’t an expected ingredient in egg rolls. That aside! I loved all the food and service was good.

Some good...some bad. Roast pork was excellent. Would get every time. Fried dumplings lacked flavor. Maybe the boiled are better. Beef chow mein was very good. Schezwan chicken was the worst I have ever had. First, it was not spicy AT ALL. Also, it was breaded chicken and the breading was falling off before I even touched it. The service was excellent. No complaints there. The history of this place makes the stop worth it. The pictures on the wall tell a story over decades of being in business.

Visited Wo Hop for dinner this evening and had a lovely meal. We sat outside in a heated area which was nice just a shame that you are given plastic plates to eat on. However the food was really enjoyable and the gentleman serving was so nice and just really happy! Had the fried dumplings (nice but wish we had gone for steamed as a little greasy for our taste) then had boneless ribs and duck noodles which were lovely along with a couple of Chinese beers. Would visit again.

We visited NY last month and this resturant was recommened by family that live in the area. The service was great and the food excellent. Has a real laid back dining experience and the staff are friendly and funny. Some will think rude but to be honest they were great and it added to the fun of the place. Make sure you get there early as it is popular and queues start forming from around 1930hrs onwards. The only reason i did not give 5 stars was that it could do with some updating and specifically the washrooms. Other than that great place to eat at.
