Hubby and I came here on our first date in 2003 and have been coming ever since. My favorite is the mock duck with basil sauce. Fried tofu is a great appetizer. Hubby favorites are the crab meat fried rice and the Kia Lao. Unfortunately...the place is now permanently closed and there is a for lease sign on the storefront. We will miss Pam and her staff. Thanks for all the great meals.More

With all the Thai restaurants in the neighborhood (and having tried almost all of them over the past few years) Pam Real not only is the most delicious, best service, and always consistently

There are a lot of great Thai food restaurants around the City, but the taste here is closer to genuine Thai food. A longstanding, staple neighborhood kitchen already well reviewed by major NYC daily newspapers has a long list of dishes on its menu from...which you can choose. I picked the Massaman curry which was recommended by a friend and it was good and not too spicy. The appetizers we had were the chicken dumplings and spring roll. They were edible but nothing special. The service was quick and extremely friendly. The prices are below average for the City.More

Once upon a time Pam was touted as the best among a handful of Thai places. Then Jaiya and Sripraphai and many others opened, with perhaps thirty in the immediate vicinity of Pam. We had been to Pam many times and recently returned. While always...mostly unadorned, it now seemed drab and run down with unpleasant facilities. Their former green papaya salad had been a revelation; now the sauce lacked complexity, the tough dried shrimp were not chopped or marinated, ground peanuts replace whole, other ingredients were sparse, and the papaya was too thickly sliced (I didn’t mind this latter, but husband didn’t like it). The Penang curry particularly disappointed us by its thin, overly salted sauce, an abundance of almost raw peppers and tough pork. I did like the steamed chive dumplings that had glutinous wrappers and a nice sauce. That said, we did eat it all and felt satisfied. The service was efficient, attentive, and friendly.More

Dined here over this past weekend as it was close to the theater, and I've dined here a handful of times as I love real Thai food. Towards that end, they remain true, but not without some shortfalls. For me, a good a barometer as...any is a restaurants curries. Thin curry, not enough heat, with only some bell pepper and bamboo shoots being a distinct shortfall. While the anchovy rice was a winner, the Tom Yum soup was weak. No balance whatsoever. I've eaten at some of the other options along 9th Ave (VIV, and Obao) with both remaining viable options. To tell you the truth, the best Thai that I've had over the last 10 years resides in a shoebox storefront in Piscataway: Four Seasons. Looks like a special trip is in order to reaffirm my need to be satisfied with a solid indigenous home made dish. I'm thinking Tod Kratiem Prig Tai and their steamed mussels. Sorry Pam. You've lost your edge and that's not a good thing regardless of your decent pricing.More

I came here for dinner after hearing good things on the New York Trip Advisor forum, and I was not disappointed! The staff were really friendly and enthusiastic from the get-go, and when I got the menu in hand, I was impressed- lots of choices,...and affordable to boot. I decided to order the Calamari appetizer and Khao Soi soup, and told the waiter I didn't mind spice. I didn't have long to wait, and my appetizer and soup came out fresh and hot. The battered calamari was perfectly done, light and not rubbery at all. The soup was likewise fantastic, strong flavored and spicy. In the end, I got full before I could clean up the entire bowl, leaving just a little behind. I think I surprised the waiter, that I could handle the spice. I'd gladly go back for another meal, thanks to the wonderful food, this place is going to become one of my favorite places to eat whenever I'm visiting NYC. I look forward to sampling additional offerings!More

We visited this place for a late lunch today, a big family of 9 with adults and kids. The food was fresh, authentic and flavorful. The prices are extremely reasonable. They were able to customize our food per individual likings (veg, no egg, no peanut,...etc). The staff were patient and did not hurry us through the order. They brought out the food hot. We tried the spring rolls, pad Thai, green and red curries, jungle curry(hot and spicy) and basil fried rice. Just as we were about to finish it started to rain heavily and we were not equipped with any umbrellas, so we ended up staying at the restaurant for more than an hour after we were done eating and paid our bills. Even though the place started filling up, they never asked us to leave. For a busy place like NYC I thought this gesture was very kind. In summary, great food and awesome staff!!More

Living in Thailand, I think I know what to expect when I see and taste Thai food. Many Thai restaurants cook to cater to an American taste or a Western taste. Some times I see dishes, I've never heard of in Thailand. But I can...say Pam cooks with authentic Thai ingredients and cooks to Thai taste. That might be vey spicy, so discuss this with the server. Any visit to NYC, is a visit to Pam's. The massamum curry is excellent. She also makes an excellent som tum, or papaya salad. Everything ordered the many times we have visited were authentic and flavorful. Pam's is right off 8th ave on 49th st. If you know Thai food, you will recognize the excellent offerings Pam's serves.More

Things I ate my first visit: Tom kha soup (sp ? ) Flavor depth superb! And crab meat fried rice. Amazing. Sweetest crab meat ever and lots of it. Things I ate two nights later: Massaman curry (tofu) and it should’ve been enough to share,...but, well - I didn’t. We arrived between 7:30 and 8:30 both times and the restaurant was NOT crowded.More
