I've been to this restaurant twice, and it's new favorite I intend to return to. It's close to Time Warner Center (Columbus Circle), Carnegie Hall, etc., A small restaurant, easy to miss, but so worth it. Very welcoming staff, attractive space, and terrific menu with unusual and creative choices (e.g.., crepes stuffed with lobster with a tomato/cream sauce; pasta with... More

In NYC with some lady friends this weekend, this restaurant was recommended to us by someone who seemed very knowledgable about NYC eateries. We arrived on a Saturday night around 7 and we were seated immediately. The waitress, who was a 5 year employee, was very pleasant and knowledgable. We ordered 2 salads and 2 pasta dishes for the 3... More

$14 for 2 bottles of water [before tax or tip] Food was ok, we both had seafood specials. service was good but a bit obtrusive, the waiter took bottle of water off me as I tried to top up my glass. No starter sweet or coffee, one glass of wine, and as mentioned 2 bottles of water. Service was already... More

The high rating for this place is suspect or all the people that eat here have no taste buds. The food is barely edible. Service is good. The decor is a bit oppressive with it's dark basement feel. Prices are on a par with most other restaurants in the area. We won't be back.

I stuck with the side dishes and all were tasty. I particularly liked the starters of eggplant parmigiana and the beet salad. Service was friendly and knowledgeable about the wine list.

Basso56 is right next door to the famous and more costly Patsy's, which was often frequented by Frank Sinatra. Basso56 is more low key, but is run very professionally. The food is imaginitively prepared with a large variety of dishes to choose from. Our foursome began with cocktails from their well stocked bar and then selected two very decent wines,... More

With unlimited choices in the city, it is always difficult to identify how one experience stands above others. My experience at Basso was a quiet dinner for 2 with my wife. We had a show to go to at 9 so had over 2 hours to enjoy all Basso has to offer. Beyond the tremendous Italian cuisine, prepared to perfection,... More

Consistent quality food with excellent service - well prepared and presented food. From its inception until the present it has continued to move in a upward trend - wine list has grown well.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
