This place is awesome. The food was simple, but tasty and just really good. It is modestly priced, and the service was top notch. I will go back every time I travel to NYC. It was the best food we ate the entire time.

We had looked forward to a meal in the restaurant. The 4 of us has a nice meal which surprisingly came to $329. Because the food was good we didn't really mind the high cost, even when we ended up with extra starters and some starters that were suggestions from the host which cost us an additional $45 in total.... After a long coast to coast flight and checking in we stopped at this recommend neighborhood italian eatery. A variety of homemade pasta dishes along with a nice selection of fish, chicken and meat dishes filled out the menu. The wonderful smell of italian spices, cooked tomatoes, and wine enticed our palates. The braised beef shoulder served with mushroom risotto... More

We had a lovely dinner at Basso56. This is an authentic Italian restaurant with many homemade pastas. It is a small space with attentive staff. Our Uber driver was late picking us up so we were 30 minutes late for our reservation and when I called to let them know they were kind enough to hold our reservation. Since every... More

We had reservations a a French Bisto but were bumped the day before. Needed to be in this area and Basso56 came up on Trip Advisor with good to very good reviews. Reasonably priced but very good wine was offered by the glass and the Negroni was exceptional. Service , from start to finish was attentive, personal and spot on.... More

We had dinner prior to a show at Basso56. The food was good, but a bit pricy. It wasn't the main dishes that bothered me, but certain extras. Although the mashed potatoes were good with the Chicken Parm, I asked if it was possible to get pasta instead. She told me it would be an additional $8.50. That is excessive!... More

This summer I ate at Bosso56, it was recommended as a reasonable restaurant. The food is fresh and homemade. The pasta is fabulous, each dish is carefully assembled and presented with an attractive garnish. The meal begins with tasty olives soaking in oil and delicious bread to stave off hunger while your food is being prepared. This is my second... More

We like Italian food and whilst in New York on a trip decided to try some of the midtown restaurants. We tried Basso56 as the menu contained a good number of staple Italian dishes that we recognised from trips to Italy. We were not disappointed on our first visit and liked it so much we went there again a few... More

The Basso56 was hopping on a Monday night - a very good sign! There are homemade pasta options, homemade meatballs, a variety of salads, entrees and desserts. Mahelia gave expert and efficient service with a smile. We were each pleased with our salads and entrees - artichoke, beet, and arugula salads and homemade spaghetti with homemade meatballs, lobster crepes, and... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
