"Love this little place!" the lady at the table next to ours said when leaving. And indeed it is a lovable place. Service was great (thanks Wally!) and the dishes...oh dear lord!...so yummy! So perfectly cooked! The panna cotta is to die for! Definitely would visit again!

We came in to NYC to see a couple of shows during 2 for 1 week and we were looking for a restaurant near 54th. We found Basso56 on tripadvisor with very good reviews and decided to give it a try. We were glad we made a reservation because, although we had an early dinner in mind, the place quickly... More

Was here for dinner with my hubby. We had pasta and felt the food was average. Ordered a creme brulee for dessert and it was average too.

Me and my husband had a very enjoyable meal here in Oct last year, and I wanted to visit again this year, with 2 of my daughters. The ambiance is what makes it so special to us. It feels like a real Italian restaurant, that local New Yorkers visit. Service is excellent, food is excellent, I was a little disappointed that... More

We had a good dining experience at Basso 56. I'd give it a 3.51, rounded up to a 4. The service was good, maybe a little too good. I felt a bit rushed. We had calamari as an appetizer. It was good. Our salads were good. My wife had a trout dish for her entree & she liked it. I... More

We did - for an early dinner. By the time we finished, there was not a seat in the house on a Thursday night! It's a small Italian restaurant "downstairs" and learned after the fact, the chef is a celebrity chef from television. Excellent meal as you would expect; excellent service, too - attentive but not intrusive. I ordered a... More

I've been to this restaurant twice, and it's new favorite I intend to return to. It's close to Time Warner Center (Columbus Circle), Carnegie Hall, etc., A small restaurant, easy to miss, but so worth it. Very welcoming staff, attractive space, and terrific menu with unusual and creative choices (e.g.., crepes stuffed with lobster with a tomato/cream sauce; pasta with... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
