We were visiting New York for the day on a bus tour when I called Basso56 to ask if they had a table open, I was told to just come over. When we arrived 10 minutes later, the gentleman remembered that we called and quickly seated us. The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating to us. The food was excellent... More

We had reservations for a Christmas' Eve dinner with a group of eleven persons. The food was very good and dishes were made from scratch. It's a small, hidden and very cozy restaurant with a friendly staff. My husband had lamb shank special and I had the Salmone. Excellent. Highly recommended!

We had dinner tonight. For antipasti we had mesculina salad and the burrata with speck and truffled oil, both every good. I would recommend the burrata. For mains we had the paccheri with melanzane, very tasty, and fettuccine with baby scallops, shrimps and cherry tomatoes, which was not bad either. I'd recommend the paccheri with melanzane. Desserts were nice, especially... More

On a bitterly cold New York night we found a real gem of a place down a side street off Broadway. Small but beautifully laid out. Authentic Italian in every way from the wait staff to the food which was beautiful. Highly recommended.

Had a chance to eat at Basso56 in New York on a recent trip. They were serving a burrata wrapped in Speck. Wow. It was so good. Also had the veal Milanese that I would definitely go back for. Small restaurant in the 200 West 56th block. It was very close to my hotel and great.

We went for a late lunch at 2:00 with a reservation. They had a wide variety for selection. The food was very fresh. I would return.

This place is a hidden gem. Fine classic Italian with phenomenal value. Everything is clearly scratch made with fresh ingredients. Incredible pasta, fresh ingredients, amazing burrata and calamari dishes. Every single dish was outstanding. But the real star here is the service. Basso 56 makes you feel like a regular and their warm hospitality, even to our family with three... More

Had a great meal here with friends after the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular. Calamari was very good for an appetizer, the special was spaghetti and meatballs. Meatballs were a little overcooked, but the homemade pasta made up for it. The crepes for dessert were fabulous. Definitely would return!

Our 3rd visit to Basso 56 in as many years and as usual the food was good. We both had orichette pasta with sausage and broccoli which was authentic and tasty!

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
