Had Spaghetti and Meatballs and Chicken Parm. Meatballs and both dishes in general were great. Fresh ingredients and friendly service. Highly recommend.

Basso56 provided a lovely, gracious dinner at a reasonable price (for Manhattan). We walked over from Carnegie Hall, and we arrived with a handful of potential problems for the staff: We were in a bit of a hurry. We had reservations for four, but showed up with six. Some of us wanted a full dinner, but one wanted just an... More

The narrow entrance belies the excellent dining experience within. We visited for dinner on a snowy Manhattan evening, and were very pleased with the decor, food and service. Clean, modern lines, with plenty of light-colored wood, bright tile and glass divide the space in three areas, each with only a few tables. "Cozy" is a good word to describe the... More

This small and nicely decorated restaurant had really good, attentive service, and a good sized menu which could please a variety of tastes. Prices were reasonable and I had an excellent beef special with risotto that had such good flavor I wish I had 2 plates! The only complaint was that appetizer of sliced tomatoes and cheese seemed small for... More

Back again after a few years. The food and service are still excellent. Fantastic home-made pasta. Will be back again when looking for Italian food in midtown.

Very nice people own and work at this restaurant. My experience: The dressing on the salads was excessive to the point it was repugnant. As for the bolognese sauce,(each of us had it) was poorly plated and bland. It certainly wasn't cooked for 3 hours--as necessary. I also doubt it had anything more than ground beef in the recipe. The... More

I come to Basso56 at least once per business trip (every other month) from Chicago. I found it by accident one evening and ate at the bar. Food is outstanding. Home-made pasta is great. I tend to order the artichoke salad and switch off between the branzino, trout and the spinach ravioli. Brought my wife on my last visit and... More

This was a really good meal. I had the Red Beet Gnocchi and it was really tasty. We also had a few appetizers which were good as well. I recommend this place for a good Italian meal in a nice, intimate atmosphere.

Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was friendly and efficient. Lovely Italian food. The Panna Cotta is a must if you like the dish. Our party of four all had different pasta dishes and as I said, all were delicious.

The service was top notch---kind, competent and friendly server--without being intrusive. It was wonderful. My friend and I sat for two hours and did not feel rushed. The wine list is fantastic. There are great choices in every price range. Next time I am in NYC, I will eat there again. It is a magical place. Thank you!

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
