We had a great dinner here. It is quite expensive as expected for a high end steakhouse the steak salad was fantastic. Although there is no kids menu they offered a number of options for our children. All of them were huge and could be shared.

My husband and I and another couple Te here to celebrate our Anniversary. The attention from the doorman to the waiter was incredible. The waiter stood near our table and ensured whatever we needed was there immediately. The menu is alacart, so be prepared. We ordered the 24 oz NY strip, mashed potatoes and broccoli and the other couple ordered... More

I probably have dinner at too many steak houses and this was not my first Smith & Wollensky. I thought the food was good not extra special. Waiter was so so. No fresh Pepper offered and he disappeared for long times so I couldn't ask for things we needed. I had the salmon which was very good as I was... More

The food was good and portions were enormous, not being regulars or New Yorkers our table was wedged into a corner by the kitchen. The staff are mostly men of a certain age, nothing wrong with that, but none of them smiled or chatted with us and they all looked like they would rather be somewhere else. When out waiter... More

I'm a big fan of this place. This was my first steakhouse experience in NYC about 16 years ago. I still remember the waiter in the white coat rolling out the meat cart. Awesome experience. That's what makes this review difficult. Went into the City in February 2016 for a weekend with friends. I made reservations well in advance hoping... More

The right Restaurant for everyone who knows that a Steak is not Steak. Here you really taste the difference between a nice and a really great Steak. Dinner couldn't be better, although the Location is a Little bit outdated.

I came late so was offered the Grill, by the bar at the back. My experience recently at the restaurant section was rushed--the food was good, but the waiters couldn't wait to get you out of there! The Grill was very clubby. If you knew the bartender and drank there every night, you got great service. If you came off... More

So I was in NYC for the night and as I was taxing back to my hotel, I see this place and seem to recognize the name as one the best. I had nothing better to do and no dinner plans so I indulged. I ordered the prime rib and the waiter suggested the hashbrowns. So I followed suit. After... More

Description
One of America's most successful restaurants, this New York steakhouse opened in 1977 and has been a hit ever since.

It is one of the most trafficked restaurants in New York City and among the most celebrated steakhouses in the world. Specializing in fresh seafood and lobster and assorted steaks and chops, Smith & Wollensky is well recognized for its healthy portions, seasoned service staff and pop Americana ambience.

The painted wood exterior is dark forest green trim on sparkling white, with latticework trim. The elegant interior has turn-of-the-century appeal and design elements including shining brass, dark wood accents and polished wood floors.

Adjacent to Smith & Wollensky's is Wollensky's Grill. The Grill (entrance on 49th St) is open from 11:30AM till 2:00AM but does not accept reservations.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
