This is a serious restaurant. It aims very high, and generally hits its target. Combinations are varied, imaginative but successful: not one came over as contrived or showy. Flavours are strong enough to support the visual experience (not always the case in top-end restaurants). The menu accommodates most tastes, and service was personal and professional. The view over the open... More

This is definitely a high end destination and food is delicately and meticulously prepared. The choices are good for most but limited for vegetarians. The wine list is pretty limited for such a fancy place. But, if you want to show off to your friends it's a pretty good choice. I did like the food, the service is courteous and... More

My husband and I had lunch at The Modern recently and while the experience was wonderful, we were disappointed in the minuscule portions, which had very steep prices. This is a Danny Meyer restaurant and, therefore, tips are built into the price of the food. The 2 lobster fritters were very small and only barely tasted of lobster. They were... More

The Modern is by far one of our favorite NYC restaurants. Despite the fine dining atmosphere, guests are made to feel welcome dressed in jeans (please don't mistake that for an okay to dress down). The food is creative but not so pretentious that it loses its purpose - to satisfy and please.....which is does! Amuse bouche tasting of tomato... More

Attentive service without too much; food was excellent (portions are good but not huge - we thought just right). Cocktails were exceptional. Quiet without being dead. Sunday night was not busy.

The Modern boasts two Michelin starts and they come by them honestly. We tried every starter on the menu plus a few appetizers and a main - they were uniformly spectacular, imaginative, and delicious. The room is open, gorgeous and energetic without being too loud and on a Thursday night the clientele is fascinating to watch. And having said all... More

While we go to MOMA usually for the world famous modern art they do have a wonderful restaurant downstairs with terrific food overlooking their famed sculpture garden there is also The Modern Bar adjacent which is less expensive without the view

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
