About
Pig Heaven, located in New York City's Upper East Side offers Chinese food in an atmosphere that balances traditional luxe dining set-up and youthful pig decor, offering an at-home feel that compliments the neighborhood's glow. The current menu takes you to a culinary journey through traditional Chinese, modern American Chinese to Szechuan style Chinese. A must-have is our critically-acclaimed BBQ Spare Ribs with a caramelized bark that offers a mild Char Siu sweetness. Our Peking Duck is wrapped in Chinese pancakes crepes with cucumbers and scallions to add a freshness to the juicy dark meat that comes with a crispy skin is another favorite from our customers. Although pork is the specialty ingredients, there are also other protein options like Three Glass Chicken, Grand Marnier Shrimp, General Tso's Chicken that goes better than average Chinese. We offer a full service bar and outdoor seating. We are available for delivery throughout Manhattan and take out, 7 days a week!

We've had the signature BBQ spare ribs. We tried a few dishes from the lunch menu as well: Shredded Beef with spicy Green Chili, Pork juicy buns and steamed seafood dumplings. Everything was very tasty. The service was great and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.

First things first - the BBQ Spare Ribs are Amazing! Literally the best Chinese Spare Ribs I have ever eaten. I had hoped to balance the meaty, fatty, sweet flavor of the ribs with the Brussels Sprouts but they were anything but veg forward. Good-ish mind you...but in the same heavy flavor profile. The problem (well really my problem) with Pig Heaven is that I can't quite figure out how to make a meal here. From looking at the dishes at other tables it appeared that the Sichuan food just wasn't going to be fiery enough to cut through. And I didn't see any light veg dishes on the menu either. That said, I do want to come back and try some more pork dishes. I just need to figure out what 'goes with'. The decor was sort of generic modern Asian and the service was excellent.

My husband went to pick up food during this scary time of covid 19. We were told food would be ready at 8:00. He went. And he waited. For forty minutes. And then after no apologies they would not honor gift certificates that had been given to us. Insult to injury, no mustard, duck sauce or extra soy. If you’re going to feed people especially during a crisis learn how to do the right thing. Owner was downright rude. Don’t go!!! We were loyal customers for over 20 years.

The worst ribs ever for the money, very dry almost like cardboard, or maybe because it took 1 hour to deliver. Got order wrong too. Gave me egg drop soup instead of hot and sour. Dumplings were good.

The spare ribs are legendary for a good reason. The popcorn shrimp, pork soup buns and pork fried rice are also divine. Go. Eat.

Take out. Eat in or delivery this restaurant offers you some tasty choices. Dumpling are a very good choice.soups, specials, Fish Filets, poached chicken, wonton in Chile sauce, scallops, ribs, and my favorite Ants on a Tree. They offer noodles and rice, numerous vegetable dishes., shrimp, prawns, duck, and even a diet menu. Specials include soft shell crab, shredded beef, and flounder. Very popular with locals. Lunch specials as well.

I came here with a group of four friends for dinner and we had an awesome experience. First thoughts walking into the restaurant for the first time. It was very long with a ope space concept which I really appreciated. The place looked a little dated in my opinion but along the same spectrum there is also a lot of history in this restaurant. The service of the waiters and waitresses was all very accommodating. They paid a lot of attention to us making sure we had the best experience possible during our time dining there. They knew that because we had a very full table of food, they went the extra mile to take stuff from our table when it was finished. They had a lot of different dishes, some western influenced but mainly a Chinese Style menu. Now, onto our food and some of my personal favorites of the night: We had: - Deep Fried Brussel Sprouts: One of my favorite veggies of the night. I’m not one to really like Brussel sprouts because they could be a little bitter for my liking, but these were amazing! The hint of heat and the frying technique was outstanding and I would definitely recommend anyone to try it! - Popcorn Shrimp: Not a dish I would rave about. Personally I thought the dish was a little plain. Although the dish was well cooked, I did not reply like the breading of the shrimp, because it felt a little grainy and did not have a lot of the texture I preferred. - Sichuan Cold Noodles: I didn’t really like this dish because I felt like it could have been made better. Personally the noodles they used reminded me of spaghetti noodles tossed in chili oil and Sichuan peppers. The spice profile was there but the overall dish was not my favorite. - Shang Hai Soup Dumplings: These were delicious. I think for the area, this was exceptionally done. I think you can get better in another place but the flavor was there. I personally thought the soup dumpling skin was a little thick and there could be a little bit more soup/meat inside. - Steamed Fish Fillets w. Diced Peppers: This dish was definitely one of my favorites that night. The fish was steamed/boiled perfectly and the sauce & seasoning with the fish was great. I recommend eating it with rice because it would bring everything together. There was Sichuan peppers in it so it has a little bit of a numbing sensation but very minimal. We had someone in our group who did not like the numbing feeling when you eat Sichuan peppers but he loved this dish. - BBQ Spare Ribs: Easily one of my favorite dishes of the night. These Spare Ribs are very unique to the restaurant and a much have whenever you are here! If you have ever had Char Shiu (Chinese BBQ pork), this is exactly that except this is a spare rib. They had different sauces you can use to pair with the ribs but I think it is delicious on its own. I COULD EAT A WHOLE PLATE TO MYSELF! - Hotpot Beef w. Mixed Veggies: The perfect dish to kick off the cold weather. I thought this dish tasted great. I wish there was a little bit more heat in the soup to elevate the flavor of this dish and more slices of beef fillets. I think this would be a better dish with the fish instead of beef but that is a personal preference. - Dry Sautéd String Beans: This was a classic Chinese dish. Every Chinese restaurant I go to, I feel like there is a need for me to get the sting beans, because it is such a classic, you can tell how the rest of night will go after trying this because you can see if they overcooked the dish or you can see if they seasoned the dish perfectly or not. Overall, I liked the food and the service of this spot! I hope to see a little bit of updating inside to bring the restaurant to life while still maintaining the history of the space in the near future. If I am ever going to go to a restaurant in the future on the Upper East Side with a group of people, this would be my place to go. I would definitely recommend trying it and judging it for yourself whether you like it or not but if you are looking for something new to try, this is the perfect place to go. Went with my wife this past Saturday night (June 8). We had Peking Duck & Scallion Pancakes. Best Scallion Pancakes we've had. Peking Duck was as good as we've had. Ambiance was pleasant (unpleasant when cold outside and crowded, though). We seldom go to Chinese restaurants, but we do order in. We will order in from Pig Heaven.

So I had a friend who ate here about 5 years ago before he moved to CA. He was in town and raves about their ribs. I’m not a picky eater and thought why not. Service and staff are great. Our waiter was quite the character with the jokes. We tried a bunch of different things from dumplings, ribs, general tso and drinks. It was all good. The place is large for parties and quiet enough that you don’t have to feel on top of everyone. We were only 2 and they pushed another table close to us to give more room for us. Prices were reasonable and overall a good choice for good Chinese food without going to a small take out place.

We were invited to a family members home for a family reunion dinner. The idea was order in from Pig Haven and hang out and enjoy each others company since we have not been all together in a long time . Not ordering from there before when a family member called to tell them we were nine people and to get basic information she was told "the servings of food are for one person only" With that in mind she ended up ordering 4 orders of all dishes thinking 1 order for 2 people since they said 1 order for one person. (Most restaurant portions serve 3-4 per order when sharing. We ordered apps/soups/ribs/ and mains. When the food arrived in bags and bags we were shocked to see how much food came. They completely oversold us as one order serves at least 4/5 people and in most cases for the entrees one order would have been more then enough since had so many apps. We must have asked at least 5 times are you sure 1 order per person? They were abrupt and they clearly did not want to advise us at all. For nine people we ended up with 18 orders of food. Everytime we asked "this seems like a lo of food" t their answer was 1 person for 1 portion. Shame on them.. And the food was way under par from the way it used to be... Very disappointed in their lack of integrity. Shame on us for listening to them but Shame on them for their lack of help and guidance and patience. In the long run they now lost a group of customers.

Way back we liked this place for new and authentic Chinese. Now the table is set with knife and fork (not even a Southeast Asian spoon), the menu is all English and many dishes are misnamed and misplaced on the menu. The main course “Pork Butt” was an appetizer of small sliced roast pork. The Szechuan hot dumplings were not hot. The shredded pork with vegetables, defined by the waiter as cabbage (I know that cabbage and vegetable can be the same word in Mandarin) but was preserved mustard and bamboo shoots. Aside from mistranslations, the service was reasonably good though a bit eager to remove plates before we were finished. I was the only Asian customer. Now I know why.

We looked at some reviews and expected a nice place, The day was cold, very cold. Inside there were only a few customers but we were told to sit in front, the rest was "closed." The front had no heat working ( actually repairmen arrived while we were eating lunch,) Calamari as a starter was fair. Peking duck good in terms of taste but arrived at the table wrapped up in totally cold pancakes. What a shame to serve such good food in cold wrapping. Wine list acceptable.
