This was our second visit in two years. We made a beeline to this restaurant on our first evening in NYC. The menu is outstanding as is the service and the food.

We've been visiting the Oyster Bar for more than 10 years and it keeps giving us a great dinning experience. Their Seashell platter (oysters, clams, shrimps and lobster) is a great alternative for those who want to try something from everything. Even if it might not be the most fancy place in NY, it's a classic not to be missed.

Incredibly "park" of oysters which seemed to me as a oyster lover. Other family love seafood so we ate a plateau that was good. Simple restaurant with good service when we were there. Local wines from Long Island was nice to try. Great oysters and seafood! Nice to spontaneously slide in and eat skaldhur and oysters for lunch. Worth a... More

Located in grand central station. We went for happy hour. The blue point oysters were fresh and very tasty. We had oysters, clams, and calamari. Everything was great. I would recommend this place to anyone. I will definitely be returning.

After reading about the history of the venue, we were excited to be apart of its long legacy. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not live up to our expectations and actually fell short of our opinion of what a proper NYC restaurant should be. Everything from the table cloth to the couch material looked and felt cheap. Our waiter spoke only... More

This old-school seafood restaurant in the lower level of NYC's Grand Central Station would be worth a trip to NY just for that. We took the train from upstate, spent the day in town and had such a meal at the "cooking counter" to the right as you walk in. From the gorgeous hand-placed tiles covering the entire vaulted ceiling,... More

I ordered a platter of i believe 9 oysters and each and every single one of them lacked any real flavour, compared to the oysters i've had in Scotland/Wales they were pretty poor. The oysters texture were all fine with no complaints the issue was all in the flavour that lacked any "saltiness" to it which i would expect with... More

Will, we're known for our high-quality oyster selection, so I'm surprised to hear that you weren't impressed. It could be that you were expecting a different type than what we serve here, but I know we can do better regardless. Hope we get a chance to show you this in the future. Until then, Frank, General Manager More

Good for oysters, great selection and always some oysters in season. No complaints there. The rest of the food is just standard fare and over rated. Don't get me wrong the fish is fresh. But $29 without tax and tip for a piece of broiled arctic char served with 5 pieces of sauted zucchine, 10 french beans and half a... More

I'm glad our oysters have hit the mark, but we're known for all of dishes -- I'm disappointed that we haven't impressed you consistently. We use the highest-quality ingredients and we feel that's reflected in our pricing. Hope we can show you that next time! Until then, Frank, General Manager More

The oyster bar is on the lower level of Grand Central Station rather than in the main concourse. The station is a must see venue for any new visitor the the red apple. The menu is vast with something for everyone, it is not just oysters but their selection is very good. I had the oyster taster and let the... More

This is a classic NYC eating establishment. It can get bogged down by tourists. The locals eat in the Saloon// it's a dark room in back. Very cool. Go eat with the locals. The soups are my favorite. Heavy cream.

Description
Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
