I was first made aware of A Salt and Battery after seeing a YouTube video of Randy Santel (Atlas) smashing their Fish & Chips Challenge record and wanted to visit ever since. As a former resident of an English Seaside town, this great little place didn't disappoint with excellent freshly cooked fish, chips (not fries, actual chips) and friendly service.... More

I never do bad reviews but I am totally shocked that there are so many good reviews and I was really disappointed after I expected a taste from home... This place was revolting. It STANKKK of oil to the point that I felt sick before I even ate, the fish was brown and not fresh, batter tasteless and chips hard... More

Delicious, I have been going here for a few years now and I can tell you the fish is always fresh, the food is always amazing and never disappointing. It is a small restaurant but it works wonderfully as you can always sit outside and eat as well as enjoy the big city life.

This place has delicious fish and chips. It's simple and charming and I'd definitely go by again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Travelled from Florida for 4 days in NYC. We have live stateside for 24 years but are always missing a taste of "home" (London, England). We did our research before we went and A salt and Battery kept coming up as the place to go for fish and chips. Wow!!!! It was awesome!!! We had the lunch special, $11 for... More

Having moved from England to NewJersey 14 years ago , we were unable to find REAL fish and chips anywhere in our area. The pub style they do in most places is just not authentic . But A Salt and Battery is as close to the real thing as you can find !!! Wonderful Cod , proper Chips , Mushy Peas... More

Nice people here too, very friendly and not crowded. We walked in and ordered some fish, sat down and ate. It was reasonable price and likely one of the best fast meals we had in the city.

I always get the fish bites, sometimes in the combo with shrimp. Perfect ratio of batter to fish and just delicious with malt vinegar and A Salt & Battery's yummy tartar sauce. By the way, skip the chips. Just OK.

The place is small, somewhat quiet, and the food is amazing! I had the fish & chips; I chose haddock. It was fresh, cooked perfectly. The chips were crispy, well seasoned. The cole slaw was creamy...yummy. You won't leave hungry or disappointed!

I had seen a piece on A Salt & Battery on the Food Network and wanted to try it, so when we went in to the City for our yearly Christmas trip, it was on the list. It was fun to get out of midtown and it's a short walk from the subway. So it's easy to get to. I... More

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
