I am not a native, but when I'm in NYC Artie's is my deli of choice. We visited mid-afternoon for lunch, so there was no wait. I love their matzoh ball soup, so ordered that with an egg salad sandwich that my husband and I split. He also had a bowl of mushroom barley soup. They serve complimentary pickles and... More

May not be as original or authentic like Katz's, but the pastrami and matzo ball soup is good and they move quickly on a busy afternoon.

Service is very lackluster. When I mentioned that they used to serve pickles and coleslaw when you sat down, the server mentioned only when you order a sandwich now. Place has gone way down hill. Very telling when the place is practically deserted on a Saturday night. It's a shame.

Don't bother going here. From the outside it looks like an inviting fun retro diner. Inside it's just depressing. We were just about the only customers there. The waitress came over looking almost annoyed we were there. Zero expression. Zero personality. Zero interest in us. Took our order as though we were putting her out and she was doing us... More

It's my 2nd visit here in past 6 months and it was just as good as I remembered it. This time I sat down with a nice draft beer and took in the New York City winter atmosphere. Can't wait for my 3rd visit to Artie's.

Since my daughter lives on West 84th St, whenever I visit, I have to go to Artie's Deli for my tongue sandwich. They heap the tongue high, and put great pickles and coleslaw on the table as well.

I went to any darn deli in NY, Queens, Brooklyn, Hoboken, Westchester, Eastchester.... everything. I took notices, i reviewed everything and my friends and i had such a great time. Sometimes... Tried this place for the first time since we try to frequent local establishments. We were met with a grade "B" health department rating and should have left immediately. We purchased chicken noodle soup that looked like the Lipton box instant type - mostly water and tiny noodles; no flavor. The split pea soup was tasteless; we even like Campbell's... More

This is a classic very good old-fashioned deli. Service was curt but courteous and efficient. Melted tuna sandwich was very good although the center of the tuna was still cool. Pickles were classic deli. Pricey but what do you expect? Recommended.

Legendary restaurateur Artie Cutler's (of Carmine's, Docks, Ollie's, Virgils, Gabriela's, Jake's, Columbia Bagel's) last project was to build a great 1930's New York Jewish delicatessen. When Artie passed away his wife Alice and her brother Carl joined Jeffrey Bank and Chris Metz to finish this project. To rediscover and recreate the flavors of 1930s homestyle Jewish cooking, Jeffrey and Chris tried hundreds of heirloom recipes and talked with people who lived through the era.
