I know they have a large lunch and dinner menu, but I go there for breakfast whenever I go to N.Y.C. It's rather small and cozy location, (and double doors keep it warm and cozy in the winter). For my taste, they do a perfect breakfast. No pancakes or waffles, but they do have french toast, plus a fresh New... More

Small but not too noisy, limited but pleasant menu, always reliable food, a neighborhood landmark for decades.

The dinner specials are always excellent, as well as the sandwiches, burgers, omelets, and salads. The wait staff makes one feel at home. The wood paneled walls add more warmth to the dining experience.

Three of us had a nice lunch here the other day. One of us lives in the neighborhood and frequents E & C. I had Crisp Chicken Salad with Stilton and Red Leaf Lettuce $15.75 which was adequate. Another had the hamburger which she said was very good. The third had a shrimp dish which she enjoyed. I hear breakfast/brunch... More

Elephant & Castle has the perfect variety of options on its menu - something for everyone! It's always hard to decide whether to go for an omelet or pasta for dinner, but you really can't go wrong either way. The service is friendly and it has the cozy feel of a true neighborhood joint... which it is. I would go... More

It was raining so we decided to go early for our lunch date and the staff were very accommodating. The smoked chicken salad was delicious and big enough to share with everyone. The sandwiches were great and the potato and leek soup was just the ticket for a rainy Manhattan day

I always go to E&C when I come to New York. The service is excellent, the breakfasts are the best. If you find yourself downtown in NYC, this restaurant is one the best you will find. If you are picky about good coffee, you will find that the manager (Rick) is, too! The salads are delicious, the brunch is great,... More

Mmm - people say it's really good, bit people say a lot of things that experience doesn't prove to be true. Had a nice homemade soup and a sandwich that was really utterly average and a couple of glasses of wine. Nothing special compared to other restaurants and rather pricey. I think you can do better, we can all do... More

The food there is so good that every single time I go to NY I come back there. The sliced steak on the dinner menu is one of the best dishes I've ever had. Very nice atmosphere, decent prices, easy access and friendly staff. They have it all.

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
