Without fail before a Broadway show I head to Joe Allen for a perfect pre-show meal. The service is wonderful, the food is good and the decor is NYC. This is an NYC institution and THE place to see actors after the show grabbing drinks and a bite to eat. The decor of the space includes signed portraits on every... More

Restaurants in the theater district tend to be bland and over priced. Not so here. The food was comparable in price to same type of restaurants throughout the city. We were a group of 5 (3 locals and 2 visitors) and we all enjoyed our dinners. We loved hearing about the musical plaques that are posted throughout, all flops!, The... More

We were looking for a place that was near the theater, and not your run of the mill place. Joe Allen was an excellent choice. Great service, good food, and comfortable atmosphere. Try the brisket sandwich and root vegetable salad -- both were excellent. We saved room for dessert and had the gooey hot fudge cake with ice cream. That... More

We stopped by without a reservation on a Sunday, pre-theater and were warmly welcomed. The lobster crab roll was delicious and we wept a bit over the perfect banana cream pie. Still dreaming about that pie

Joe Allen is a pre-theater classic; any New Yorker knows that -- but what many may not know is that it's a comfortable place to eat when the theater crowd moves out around 7:30. Then there is ample space to find a table; the noise level is conducive to conversation; the atmosphere is comforting and feels like true New York... More

I'm not sure what everyone is raving about as our experience was not the best. My husband and I booked ahead and were seated upon arrival. Our starters arrived almost immediately after ordering so they had obviously been waiting on the production line for delivery to A table. No sooner had we finished our starter than the main course arrived.... More

We ate at Joe Allen's after going to Hamilton. It was only about a block away. We had reservations, got there 15 minutes early and were seated immediately. Highly recommended!

Ate here after seeing a matinee. The menu is small but the food is delicious. Everyone I was with loved their meal. The service was great too. Would definitely return.

My second time at Joe Allen and it was as good as the first. Now on my list for every time I travel to NYC. Obviously it's a regular for theater go-ers in the know, as it was packed in between matinee and evening show times (a good sign). Glad we had a reservation! I like their regularly-changing menu and... More

Before heading to the theatre, we chose Joe Allen's for dinner. The place was packed, but with our reservations we were taken to our table right away. The place is really relaxed, lots of exposed brick, wooden floors, and our server was great - full of laughs, jokes, and good recommendations with the menu. They are used to serving the... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
