Been here several times and have always enjoyed the experience. We always try to go on off-peak time to savor the food, atmosphere and service. Nothing fancy but a great dining experience.

This place is set up to move you through your meal in time for your show. Nothing fancy but everything tasted good. We got escargot and I had a lobster roll. Handy location to all the theaters.

Fantastic restaurant on West 46th. Wonderful food and friendly staff. Very relaxed atmosphere and decoration. Doesn't look much from the outside, but go in and you'll be blown away.

Had meatloaf for dinner, which was excellent. Waiter sometimes disappeared for a while, but the place was very busy at the time. Not far from Times Square. Very cramped, but great food.

Joe Allen has a diverse menu, the waiters are very polished and accustomed to getting patrons to the theater on time for your show. They serve dinner until 8 pm, than a limited menu is offered for after theater folks looking for a great place to eat. Reservations can only be made 7 days in advance. Definitely recommend.

We ate here mid-afternoon whilst wandering around mid-town. The place was quiet - too late for lunch and too early for pre-show meals - but there was a pleasant ambience and it was a welcome respite from Times Square. Unlike many restaurants, Joe Allen's has tablecloths and it lends the place a nice formal feel but without being too stuffy.... More

The black bean soup and tofu / vegetable concoction were to die for -- so delicious. I encourage vegetarians and vegans to dine here! My 90 year old mom said she'd never had a better dish all her life! The staff were friendly and fun -- and excellent service! They got us out 45 minutes later for theater! I especially... More

We really enjoyed our dinner before the theater at Joe Allen. Our waiter, Will, really made the night! He was personable and funny, and also knew the menu/wines. We shared some chicken and salad, and a peppered pork tenderloin. The drinks were good and the chocolate fudge cake was to die for!!

Had an enjoyable meal - the food was good (though the prices were extremely high, even for NY) and the setting, though largely vacant, was nice. I was non-plussed by the included service charge. To be honest, I would not have given the server that large a tip. She largely ignored the table and left us in the middle of... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
