Hadn't been there in years. In some ways it is the quintessential Broadway restaurant. The walls are decorated with show posters both current and legendary. Pre and post show audience members occupy the bar and tables. Post shows, cast members are often stopping by for a bite or drink. The food is good, primarily straight forward selections (hamburgers, chicken, salads,... More

Love trying NYC restaurants that's been around for a long time. Lunch at Joe Allen was perfect before seeing a Broadway show. Good theater district location and great atmosphere, menu and service. Our waiter was just a delight. The escargot was garlicky and amazing. The lobster and crab roll was rich in seafood with very little mayo. Here's a tip... More

Went there before the theatre recently. Reservations is a must, but here's the twist for you. If they know you are going to a play and you get a reservation, they will help you get your food and get to the theatre on time. ( They really do) Service was great. Enjoyed the cocktails and beer. Had there know for... More

Joe Allen is charmingly decorated restaurant that seemingly appealed to the pre-show crowd (ourselves included). They are cognizant of the need to get patrons in and out in a timely manner. We were promptly seated and service was good. The food varied in quality, from stale bread to good gazpacho followed by uninspiring entrees and dessert. The wine list was,... More

Ate dinner at Joe Allen last week - very impressed. Great space, service and location. Free range Cajun chicken dish is the best chicken dish I have ever had in a restaurant. The gazpacho was also excellent. Generous and reasonably priced drinks appreciated. We will be back soon.

We had tickets to Hamilton and wanted to be able to eat dinner close to the theatre. Joe Allen fit the bill- and that would have been enough. but, they went above and beyond for us. I had made a reservation for 5 and we were given a lovely table. then as the 4 of us who were already there... More

We came here after a Broadway show for dessert and coffee. We made a reservation ahead of time, and when we arrived, they had saved a premium table in the back for us. Service was excellent, even after she realized we weren't big spenders. The desserts were delicious and not the same old menu items you always see. Great atmosphere.... More

This place is great. We were in with a party of eight and were served great food quickly. This is a great pre show hot spot on Broadway. They also can hold your bags.

Joe Allen was very close to all the theaters, easy to get to, easy to find. It's got a great NYC atmosphere inside, service is a tad slow, meatloaf was average if you make good meatloaf yourself just order something else. Mashed potatoes, french fries were both great, burger was good. Friendly staff, good all around menu if you have... More

When I think of NY , I think of Joe Allens. It is quintisential NY. It's where us tried and true NY'er's go to be with each other. Broadway is Joe Allens. Shows and stars and producers and all of that. It's like a worn and read copy of The New Yorker---the NY Times, and the Daily News. I have... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
