Reasonable prices and good, homey food like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. When you're tired of the precious food that so many restaurants serve these days, have dinner at Joe Allen. Dinner is good and the bill won't break the bank. Good place to go for pre-theater, too.

We were rushed for lunch before a matinee show-- Told the Maitre D, and the waiter already knew as we sat down...Very impressive! Food was very good, and we had a great meal in 30 minutes..We were warned what items would take extra time so as to avoid them.

I did some research and read that Joe Allen's was the place to go before seeing a Broadway show for dinner. We had tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway and decided to eat dinner here prior to the show. My wife and I had reservations and we were both treated well by staff. We told our waiter we... Here in NYC for the week and my husband made a late reservation for us after a Broadway production, all we had to do is tell them the production and they knew when to expect us. Our table was waiting when we arrived. Both my husband and I ordered the New York strip steak and my husband also had a... More

We started our brunch with Manhattans which were served in little individual ice buckets. Very nice touch and when I mentioned it to our waiter he said it was important that Manhattan stay icy cold. So true. The omelettes were delicious as was the lobster roll one of us had. They didn't rush us and refilled our coffees. Perfect place... More

We ate at Joe Allen restaurant after a show on Saturday night. We called from the show before it started and they accommodated us with a reservation at 10:40 at night. The hostess was very welcoming and took our ponchos (it was raining) and hung them in the coat check room to dry. The restaurant walls are covered with Broadway... More

We saw "Shufflin' Along" last night and in what has become a tradition, enjoyed our dinner afterwords at this restaurant based in the heart of the theater district. Reservations either before or after the show are keyed to actual curtain times and walking times to the theater or to the restaurant. The staff is very well trained on those important... More

We had a 700pm curtain so made reservations for 530. Arrived in time, we seated at a nice quiet table. Menu is limited but covers many options. We shared guacamole as appetizer and friend and lobster roll, I had chicken Farro salad. All were great and we got to the theater on time. Definitely recommend!

We went to Joe Allen after seeing Kinky Boots. I have a reputation in my family as finding the best places to eat, so after googling it i found the best reviews on Trip Advisor for Joe Allen. I made a reservation through Open Table, and although our reservation was at 10 (because we didn't know how far it was... More

This is my second visit. We had dinner this time. Two of us had meatloaf with mashed potatoes and spinach. We both liked it. Our third diner enjoyed her salmon, and she substituted potatoes for the rice. Appetizer was chips and guacamole, and it was good. The service was nice, not rushed. There is a little bar to sit at.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
