Family style, go hungry! We have been going here for over 20 years every time we visit the city. Now our kids love going here too. We do family style and leave stuffed beyond belief. Service is outstanding, establishment is clean, everything is homemade and recipes are old s hoop italian like you would have at Sunday dinner. Flavors are... More

Being from the New York Metropolitan area, I'm accustomed to decent Italian food. Even though I knew Little Italy had become a tourist trap, I hoped the food would at least be good. Caesar salad was drowned in bottled dressing. Packaged croutons on top. Pasta with seafood was decent. No one else was wowed by their food. The waitstaff was... More

Walking by and a lot of restaurants trying to get our attention, we approached La Mela's menu and this gentleman welcomed us in with no pressure, had a table in seconds and menus with delicious bread and butter in minutes. We were given our own water pitcher and the food was good, not the best but good. Real big portions... More

Dropped into this restaurant on a recent trip to NY with my wife and two children (18 and 13). Food was excellent, portions were large but we all managed to finish everything.

I was visiting New York with my family and initially wanted to introduce them to REAL New York pizza. I've been to New York dozens of times but have never made my way to Little Italy. We found La Mela's as we were walking down Mulberry looking for a pizza place. As we walked by, the guy at the door... More

Nice piece of Italy! This place is amazing and so Italian. The people are friendly and the atmosphere is fun. It was late and we didn't get to eat here but my husband and his friend were able to have a drink and sit and talk with "Butch the Hat". He could tell stories like no other.

Sat outside and enjoyed the "mixed pasta" dish and the atmosphere of Little Italy. The pasta was really good and had a combination of tortellini, rigatoni, and gnocchi on one plate. It was great to try all three pastas, and the staff was very friendly and brought our food very quickly. Overall a great casual restaurant!

Although the dining room is large, nothing beats the atmosphere of dining on the sidewalk in the heart of Little Italy. Nice meal, plenty of food, not outrageously priced.

Staying in Little Italy

Neighborhood Profile
Little Italy
While Little Italy is one of the city's smallest neighbourhoods, its streets are packed with visitors from around the globe, especially on summer weekends when the streets are closed to traffic. Stroll up Mulberry Street, the heart of Little Italy, for a dense mix of Italian restaurants with sidewalk tables, cafes, and old-school food shops. Don’t be surprised when the hosts beckon you to pay them a visit. Stop in for a coffee and a cannoli, or grab a streetside table to take in the scenery over a hearty Italian meal.
