Wow!!! What an amazing experience. The food was sublime. The most wonderful prosciutto and melon - best melon we have had even in Italy. Perfect pasta - so good you didn't want it to finish. Such friendly service. Highly, highly recommended.

Easy to get seated on a Friday night without a reservation. Located on MacDougal Street in the heart of Greenwich Village. Everything about the restaurant says New York in the tradition of good old fashioned red-sauce Italian. The place feels like it's been this way forever. Everything is good. Portions are generous. The atmosphere is authentic. The waiters are great.... More

We had a nice time here. Old fashioned (in a GOOD way!) service. Very friendly and efficient. Bread brought to table before the meal was really good. My gnocchi wasn't the best I'd had (it lacked flavour) but the limoncello cocktail and the dessert I had (tiramisu) were fabulous. Everyone else at the table really enjoyed their mains. Tables were... More

Went to Monte's late on a Saturday night, having just arrived for a fun trip to NYC. Everything was good - the food, the service, and the atmosphere. I had the minestrone and the veal piccata. Everyone else had fresh made pasta, and really enjoyed their meals. Tiramisu and zabaglione were both yummy as well. Plus we got a decent... More

The Wife and I went here on our very first date exactly 25 years ago January. Old school Italian food and service on a level rivaled by few. Prices are insane- Exceptional value! Clams Oreganata and posilipo are best in class, fresh pastas (tagliatelle and tagliarini) outstanding! Even the chicken parmigiano was outstanding ( the cheese and sauce make it).... More

We were visiting New York for the first time and wanted to plan our dining out in advance. We booked this place based on recommendations we read on the internet. We love Italian food and wanted to visit Greenwich Village; win, win! We were actually surprised by Greenwich Village because it was actually pretty scruffy and looked a little rundown.... More

Monte's is a must whenever we visit New York. It is hands down one of our favorite restaurants in the US. The pasta literally melts in your mouth. Old school perfection!!

We've been going to Monte's for over 20 years, ever since the owner, Giovanni, pulled us in off the street! He's 80 and retired now, but what he left his family is no less a revelation. Monte's is an authentic NYC Italian restaurant. The type of place they could have used to film a scene in "The Godfather." The waiters... More

I went to Monte's to meet a long time business friend along with a few other people (5 in all). The place was packed, but we were seated upstairs (much quieter) at a corner table. The food, wine, and service were all wonderful -- old style Italian -- parmigiano pasta delicious red wine, great bread -- I had red snapper... More

Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
