Excellent Italian food in this Greenwich Village establishment, at affordable prices. Cozy atmosphere. Wonderful service, and the owner is usually there and takes good care of the customers. Great music on the tape deck with the volume adjusted so that you don't have to scream at each other to talk. Perfect place for lunch or dinner while seeing the sites... More

Our fifth trp for great staples like Chicken parm and wonderful red sauce. This reasonably price gem is on Thomson just above Blecker surrounded by tons of places. This stands out purely for food quality. They also have a nice list of reasonably priced wines, including by the glass. My family is looking forward to our next visit.

So this area is absolutely thumping with people and activity at night so trying to find a quiet place off the main drag is a bit of a challenge but this little Italian restaurant fitted the bill nicely. With that real New York/Italian feel with an option of outside or inside seating this is a simple but pleasant little restaurant... More

We were very pleased with the ambience, friendly staff, and very tasty food. My husband says it was one of the smoothest red wines ever. The salmon was broiled, tasty and healthy. We would go back to Porto Bello. Very welcoming staff.

Looking for al fresco in the Village, we strolled down Thompson Street from Washington Square Park and literally stumbled across Porto Bella. Two tables on the sidewalk, a two-top and a three-top beckoned. Quickly greeted and seated, we opted on this hot evening for a very cold glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc at $8.00. All the wines are reasonably... More

This is a quite simple, no pretenses, not trendy, sort of old fashioned Italian restaurant. The service is friendly and efficient. My guess is that the same people have been running the place for a long time, and I believe that it was the owner who served us. I had mussels marinara, which were fairly standard but quite good, and... More

We needed a place for a post-graduation luncheon with a constantly adjusting number of people in our party. The management reassured us after we told them that we would be late, etc. We arrived and had an enourmous selection of items on both a special menu and regular luncheon menu. The waiter patiently visited the table multiple times and made... More

We spent the holidays in New York from Italy and for Christmas Night we had dinner in Portobello. For us it was like beeing at home. The Quality of the food was so Good. I suggest the mushrooms and the lasagna, but also the ravioli were really Good.

This small neighborhood restaurant provides great food and superb service. The veal parm and the meat ravioli in a shiitake mushroom cream sauce were both excellent. Even when crowded you never feel rushed. The staff is very friendly. Can't wait for my next visit.

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
