Just a Friday dinner experience to share. This is the first time I hand out a one star review here, because I really have to. We were at Yakiniku West for dinner, six of us, regular Friday night out after work. The waiter accidentally splashed water on me, which was totally fine. People make mistakes, you just need to apologize,... More

One of our friends who lives in the area made reservations for dinner...almost felt like we were in Japan...delicious food, perfect portions, quick service (almost too quick). Enjoyed the whole experience...be ready to take your shoes off at the door, here's your chance to show off unique sock designs!

I have never been to a Japanese BBQ so I can't compere this to others. As always with Japanese it's pretty plain and lacked spices but it was good.

There's a lot to love about Yakiniku West, but also a lot left to be desired. Service is a little off. They don't change your grills; when asking for recommendations, they draw a blank face; they don't tell you which cut of meat is what; they don't check in and help/advise with grilling (not that that's required, but other yakiniku... While staying in the Times Square area we decided to try Yakiniku West located in the East Village. Amazing experience. They have a large variety of menu items to choose from and service is over the top. What I truly enjoyed was cabbage kimchi with my dumplings and hot rice bowl with short ribs. The Kirin Light beer was ice... More

An incredibly positive surprise for Asian barbecue fans! The restaurant is fairly unassuming from the outside, and they make you take your shoes off as soon as you enter. The atmosphere is casual, and the table setting is spacious and well aerated, which is unusual for this type of food. The grill works well and it's meat galore - all... More

Decided to try this restaurant while I was in New York, just one block from my accommodation and among too many other japanese restaurants that were fully booked out at that time...around 9PM! Everything we ordered tasted really good and fresh, service was honest and price very reasonable.

Since we ran out of patience waiting at Soba-Ya (across the street), therefore we decided to give Yakiniku West a try. Boy oh boy. The server was so helpful and honest in directing us to get a good value plan (they have specials), and we were very satisfied with the quality grilled meats. Keep up the good work!

The place is for meat lovers. We went there last month. The beef was tender. The sauces made in house matched the BBQ meat pretty well. We also ordered sushi. Our waiter actually forgot 2 of our orders, so I can only give it a 3 star. I personally do believe remembering your customers' order is quite important.

My family and I came here to celebrate Mother's Day a few weeks back. The food was delicious; we ordered a plate of sushi, beef and bibimbap. The sushi and the beef alone will fill up a family of 4 pretty well. The restaurant itself was a bit difficult to locate as it was in a somewhat hidden area of... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
