Although The Bar Room is a newcomer to the Upper East Side, the restaurant's historical design elements inspire the feeling of a classic neighborhood mainstay. From the African Mahogany bar that spent over a century in Harvey's Chelsea, to the 1920s Parisian light fixtures that lined the river Seine, the detailed decor creates an elegant yet relaxed ambiance. For private dining guests, the full menu of New American fare includes decadent entrees like grilled rib eye with bone marrow, braised short ribs and pan seared scallops. Our knowledgeable staff informs guests on dish pairings with a select variety of wines, spirits and classic cocktails to compliment each flavor and palette preference.

The Bar Room seems to be another local favorite watering hole / restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you notice two things: how incredibly loud the noise is from the conversations and how dim the lighting was. It’s a small place as many places...in NYC are. You work with what you have. The place is clean and looks nice. Take a moment and look at the lights in the dining room as they are classic style not seen anymore. The lighting was so dim that many people, including myself, had to turn on their phones’ flashlights to read the menu. The tables are close together to maximize space but you feel like you’re into the other diners’ conversations. My coworker and I both ordered the filet and it was perfectly cooked even though it was a thick slice (not butterflied). The banana creme brûlée was delicious. While it didn’t come with whipped cream, our server was very accommodating when I asked her for some. The dinner was delicious and the filets were pricey at $42 each but we left content and full. Kudos to our tall brunette server Denisse who was so wonderful. Thanks!More

We booked a reservation on their website the day prior and needed to modify the time and did so a few hours later and received an email confirmation of the new time. Then 15 minutes after my original time I got a call and asked...if we were coming. I told them we changed the time. She said that their system “Resy” does have some issues. So if you make any changes to your reservation I recommend you call them to confirm. The food is tasty and well prepared. The place is loud and the service could be better. It took ten minutes from the time seated until someone came by the table for our order and another ten minutes to receive our drinks. Too long. Then when our meals came we asked for grated cheese and bread to go along with our pasta dishes and this took another ten minutes, as our pasta got cold. While the food is good the service was so-so and not sure if I would go back.More

Just walking by and stopped in for a late lunch - nice light airy space beyond the bar - service was good - efficient and friendly and the food was good too - we shared a kale salad and turkey club sandwich - both very...tasty and nicely washed down with a beer - very happy to find this place!More

We were looking for a local bar scene and this was recommended by our Concierge from The Pierre. It didn't disappoint. Selina, the bartender was both attentive and friendly. Great place to wind down after a busy day. Highly recommend.

We found this little place whilst roaming around stopped for a drink, stayed for food. Atmosphere was great, lots of after work folks all enjoying themselves. We grabbed a table and had great service from a young man who’s name I didn’t get (unfortunately). Worth...a stop off or a detour if you are near south Central Park.More

The Bar Room at The Modern is an incredible restaurant. There food is unbelievably good and creative. If you peak in the kitchen (which they allow), they have a huge cooking staff. Like all of the fine dining Danny Meyer restaurants, the food is made...from the best and most fresh ingredients. The service is relaxed but professional. The cocktails are creative. The bar is beautiful and it's located in an iconic building. It's awesome!More

Visited for brunch and really enjoyed the omelette. It was served with hash browns and salad. Staff were attentive and filling up our water glasses when needed and service was smooth. I loved the artwork along the top of the ceiling.
