I enjoyed the food I had here but I wasn't too pleased that the waiter asked me once if I wanted a refill so once I said yes, he kept bringing out refills (and I had to pay for every single time he refilled the glass). I would probably only eat here again during the month of October, but wouldn't... More

Have to say this was the best German restaurant we have had in the US. It was very authentic and pricey but so worth it. Only thing is that the knodel could of been just a bit bigger. Definitely owned and operated by Germans.

Nice range of German beers served very cold. Schnitzel Holstein Very friendly service, and if all you want is beer, a very friendly bartender with a couple of TV sets. Bits and pieces of Germanic wall furniture add a bit of Old Yorktown to the experience. Good cleanliness including the restrooms.

Having lived in Germany, and spending a lot of time there besides, I was pleasantly surprised to stumble onto to this little gem. From the first pass through the doors, you are transported to a Bavarian restaurant, like you would find in any village. Tried most everything at our table, all of which was excellent. The Bratwurst could have been... More

My wife and me enjoyed the lunch we had at a sidewalk table. The German food was the best we have ever had.

Well, the food and beer have not changed much in the past 20 years since my last trip. It must be because of the subway construction going on right outside the door plus "hefty" German food perhaps not being as popular as it once was, but the restaurant was empty creating a somewhat bleak atmosphere. The food is still absolutely... More

When I lived on East 86th Street, there were a dozen German restaurants, now there is but one, happily the same old place that I recall beginning 35 years ago. I get into the spirit with a liter of Weissbier then order Kartoffelpuffer - fried potato pancakes with onion & garlic; Wurst Platter - Brat, Bauren, Weiss Wurst with red... More

We come here once a year for a family celebration. Our family of 5 ordered a cheese spaetzel & a potato pancake for appetizers. For main dishes, the sauerbraten was delicious--tender & tangy. My husband ordered the Jaeger schnitzel & loved that as well. We split two orders of the chocolate fondue for dessert--so many delicious fruits to try. Terrific... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
