I selected Old Homestead Steak House for its notoriety. On Saturday December 12, 2020, I stopped in for an early diner. After being seated outside in partially enclosed sidewalk dining, I notice a small discontent happening between a couple as they walk past. I went...on to review the menu and order the $65.00 bone-in prime rib, baked potato and mushrooms and a soda. While waiting for my dinner the young lady that previously had the disagreement with her boyfriend returned for seating, alone. She was a bit unruly as she heckled the waiter about the crab cakes. However, she went on to order the crab cake and a glass of wine. While waiting for my dinner she tired to make conversation with me, but was soon drowned out as the restaurant purposefully increased the outdoor dinning music volume to a miserable level. Upon arrival of my dinner, I noticed my bone-in prime rib looked extremely full of gristle, which it was (photo included), and my baked potato was not even warm enough to melt butter. However, the mushrooms looked and tasted delicious. As I ate, the intoxicated girl that I mentioned at the beginning of the story joined me with her food. Primarily so we didn’t have to scream over the loud music. As an inebriated Christina from Maine/Boston went on to eat my mushrooms, and her dinner, I sat there pondering how the hell did I manage to get caught up in such a circus. While Christina (fake name I’m sure) was visiting the lady’s room, I notified the waiter that I was doubtful that she could pay for charges, and that I would buy her dinner. Well, it wasn’t too long after Christina returned from the restroom that she was up again to go grab a drink. This time she never returned. SOB a real life dine and dash, my intuition was correct! My waiter knew my dining experience was subpar and said he would take care of it. To me that implies at least a discount for the nonsense I was dealt over dinner. However, when the cheque arrived, I was charged full price on all items and Christina was nowhere to be found. Captain Houdini had vanished as she went to go get a drink. Despite buying a dinner for a complete stranger, the food was poor quality in appearance, flavor and preparation. Also the waitstaff needs be more mindful with simple tasks such as keeping a water glass replenished. Thank you. P.S. Christina with the stolen iPhone, you owe me a dinner. : )More

Fun time if your looking for a historic tourist trap with lots of characters. Food was slightly above average. The service was too chatty for my tastes although I did like our Russian waiter comparing America in 2020 to Russia in 1917. I cut the...place slack because we are on the cusp of another Covid lockdown at midnight and our waiter is angry at the stupidity of our Mayor. God knows he is the worst mayor NYC has ever had. Cuomo ain’t much better. I hope this lockdown doesn’t destroy too many restaurants. God Bless America 🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼🇺🇸More

I would highly not recommend eating at this restaurant. I was celebrating my partner and I's 4-year anniversary and nothing about this experience- from the service (the worst part) to the food- was special or worth eating here. Upon entry, we entered a very tiny,...loud, and crowded dining room on the second floor. The guest next to us was on his phone the whole time, as well as a family with loud children. I asked our server to move to a more intimate and quiet location and he said this table was the "quietest table in the quietest section" and made no offer to move us somewhere else. This completely dampened my mood and set the tone for the rest of the meal. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine and was told that they didn't have it, as well as other items from the savory menu. The next portion of our meal felt very confusing, having many different members of the staff approach the table and get backhanded every single time when dropping food or topping off water and clearing. The food was mediocre- nothing special. The icing on the cake was the cake: we mentioned it multiple times that it was our anniversary, and the only thing special thing they did was send a slice of cake (which I thought was a nice gesture) then I saw the check and notice I was charged $18 for something I didn't order and thought would be a nice SFN. This place is way overrated for mediocre food and sub-par service. I would not recommend spending this type of money- you could get much better food and service elsewhere and not making our special night special really ruined our anniversary.More

We were in NYC for my husband's 50th birthday. He wanted a steak dinner so we went to the Old Homestead. We intentionally made a reservation early in the evening as we would be bringing our 8 year old son with us. There was only...one other party in the upstairs with us yet the service was terrible. We had to ask for bread several times. The food was just ok. We were barely checked in on. There is no kids menu so we had to order our son a $25 burger. For $325, I would expect better quality food and service. I wish we chose somewhere else to celebrate this special occasion.More

We heard about the Old Homestead Steakhouse and that there are great truffles Mac n Cheese. And what can I say? They were absolutely amazing. And the steak and the appetizer was a real treat. The restaurant itself is rustically furnished and offers a special...flair. We can recommend it in any case!More
