This place has been here for years, just north of Washington Square- thus the name. You can pay a lot more at any number of nearby spots and get a lot less quality. This place is a winner - cozy, historic, good food anda nice...lounge.More
Part of the Washington Square Hotel. Clearly a lot of locals use this as a regular. Good was fine, service was attentive, there is a good wine list. A lounge in the next room has a small bar (sits six at the bar, also plenty...of tables). On Sundays 12.00-3.30 there is a brunch jazz but you need to book as its very popular. The band invited anyone to come up and sing (some did - I think it's one of those places people know about, and go to).More
A recent renovation has turned a long-standing, cozy little restaurant --a local institution--into a look- a -like diner, complete with red plastic booths, garish lighting and other decor, and bad music to match. The food and service remain fine, but the distinctive and reasonable price-fixed...menu has disappeared.; A real shame!More
Every time we decide to “eat in “ at the Washington Square Hotel, we are never disappointed. This time it was the seared tuna which turned out to be a good choice. A half-bottle of Spanish white wine and we were all set.
We only ate breakfast here once and it was good. Would have done it more often if we had known that they would extend all the freebees at the continental breakfast upstairs and only charge you for additional dishes (e.g eggs and meat)
North Square has an excellent menu, with moderate prices. It is located right in the Washington Square Hotel, but accessible from the street as well. The lounge area is very nice with happy hour drinks and food from 5-7. Our bartender was Alexandra who was...an absolute delight.More
I’ve been to this restaurant a few times. One of the things I like about it is that you can actually hear your dining companions and have a conversation.
I’ve had the steak with pepper sauce a few times and it’s always tender and delicious....One of my friends always orders lamb chops and likes them. There’s a big selection of dishes and wines and the service is excellent. If you want a quiet restaurant near Washington Square you should consider North Square.More

Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess.
Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
