Party of 4 for early dinner. Ordered baked clams, a pasta sampler and lemon chicken. A bustling family restaurant. Lots of groups and families. Do NOT come here if there's less than 8 pax in your group!! You'll only end up eating 1 dish and/or wasting food or if you intend to stay for 5 hours! Portions are HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!! You... More

Carmines was great for catering. The eggplant parmigiana was a huge hit,(a 5) not one bite leftover. The package we ordered had a huge amount of salad that was left over. When I order next time I will hand pick trays instead of ordering a package deal. The employees were very nice!

Delicious Italian food served family style! Each dish provides food for at least four people. Enjoyed delicious spaghetti and meatballs! Also, enjoyed Ceasar salad. After our group of four ate, we had plenty of leftovers to take with us. Staff was helpful. Would return the next time I am in New York!

A small group of us lunched here recently. Its best to order by platters to share some of the italian flavours served up. We had just two pasta platters & a green salad enjoying the tea-house style ambiance over some beers & wines. Friendly and attentive service provided here.

Just off Broadway. Came out of the theater and walked into Carmines. Huge portions, good wine, great bar and fervidly happy atmosphere.

As most reviewers state, Carmine's is all about the big food, served family style. This is not tapas sized food. With a basic order of fried calamari running about $34, you really need to rethink the dining out strategy if you're not in a large group. In case you and your partner want to try an appetizer, salad or dessert,... More

The food is truly family style. When we were there it was us a table of 4 and we still had enough to share with a neighboring table of two. Food was good and I feel like for all the adults were able to feed the prices were standard. Service was good as well.

The food was good, but definitely not a place to hold a conversation. Very pricey but the portions are very large. It is best to share with others, wished that they also had a single sized portions since we were a group and had to decide what to get since some didn't eat pork or beef.

Description
Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.
