People SAY "oh it's so tender and juicy," and you roll your eyes because that's what everyone says, whatever. DONT ROLL YOUR EYES!! The corned beef and pastrami (#3) is phenomenal, outstanding, and amazing. They say tourists go to Katz, locals go to Sarg's. Huge...amount of meat. My husband and I split one, but my husband said if he was younger, he would have gone for a whole sandwich (he's 54). Loved the coleslaw, not too sweet. Little disappointed in the pickles, kinda bland, and no snap. But totally forgiven by the tasty meat. For dessert, we split a peanut butter chocolate cheese cake around $10 but it was huge and tasty!More

Myself and a friend were in Murray Hill for the day. Walked around quite a bit so we did work up an appetite. We stumbled upon Sarge’s Deli & decided to grab a quick bite. Seated immediately by a sweet blonde waitress, who gave us...massive menus. It took us a while to order because we just couldn’t decide. Out of the corner of my eye I saw something 🐀🐭scurry across the back of the dining room, few moments later, there it was again! The place was empty but for 2 single tables in front part of Deli. Thank goodness we didn’t order food yet. Grabbed our belongings and left that place quickly.More

Well interesting visit, 30 min for food, delivered wrong, the server was great, but the chef must be f##kin deaf, got the order wrong AGAIN, but to hungry to complain after 45 min waiting, and they charged me $4 dollars for a tea bag, then...told me coffee is cheaper, " Tea is for kings, coffee is for peasants"More

We were in New York for a week staying on park avenue and came across this restaurant on day 2 ! We were greeted by the most charming loviest server we’ve met in years, called karen .. we enjoyed it so much we popped back most...days for breakfast or for the odd lunch or coffee & cake Everything we ate here was beautiful.. proper home made food full of flavour.. karen was always so chatty and in such great form she was a tonic to meet .. we’ll definitely be back later in the yearMore

Classic deli with a massive menu. A bit scruffy round the edges and the entrance is full of Deliveroo drivers collecting take outs but it does what does well. Ridiculously thick hot pastrami sandwich was good and tasty with pickles and coleslaw on the side....Home fries were delicious but it was more than any human can eat haha.More

Sarge's has replaced Second Avenue Deli as my go-to in Manhattan of late - probably because of all the options! If you have a friend who can't decide what to get off a one page menu, they will be very confused here - the good...news is that almost all the food here is excellent! Service can be spotty at times, but my expectations are lower at a deli anyway. Personal favorites are knish, potato pancakes and chopped liver!More

My daughters eggs were still very undercooked the waitress snatched plate cursing under her breath. Eventually came...back still not cooked again waitress very rude and snatched plate cursing again. We felt as though it was a big inconvenience being there felt very uncomfortable would not recommend.More

One of the few classic NY Jewish style delis still left in Manhattan. Loved the coleslaw and pickles. My pastrami sandwich was good, but not the best I've had. I think my vegetarian partner appreciated the deli even more than I did. He really enjoyed...his vegetarian Reuben sandwich with vegan "corned beef" and real cheese. Waitress was very nice. This is especially a good choice if you have a vegetarian/vegan in your group who wants to enjoy a real deli with the rest of the carnivores.More

We learned about Sarge’s from a friend in Murray Hill a few years ago. What a find! Traditional NY deli atmosphere and huge menu. Delicious sandwiches and desserts, large and shareable. It’s a healthy walk from the Broadway hotels and midtown shopping, but well worth...it. Save the dieting for another day.More

I haven’t been back here in about 5 years. My friend and I miss good NYC deli, now living in Phoenix. We arrived about 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday. Got a seat right away. Service was very good. Food was OK. We got the Belly...Lox and Sable Bagel Platter. They didn’t seem to miss a beat on portions for the Sable but the Belly Lox was thin not like 5 years ago. The bagel though toasted was a bit tough. My concern is, I question the cleanliness. We sat next to the service area as I observed all the action going on. Shocking as I observed the bus man that was servicing the restaurant with bare hands, would clear all dirty dishes sticking his hands in dirty cups to gather them, taking the dirty dish carrier to the kitchen then coming back out with clean dishes and again sticking his hands in the clean cups and plates, removing dirty dishes again then filling the pickle bowls with his bare dirty hands, dishing out coleslaw, serving coffee, pouring milk from the container with his dirty hands. Setting new place setting with dirty hands that he removed settings. Just a very unnerving site. Sorry, if I didn’t see the change of events happening in front of my eyes, I would have been better off. Atmosphere: typically NY Deli setting. Service: good. Food: good. Cleanliness: bad.More

There are few remaining "true" pastrami places in NYC, but strangely enough, amongst those which feel reasonably authentic, two 2nd ave Deli and Sarge's are within 2 minutes walk of each other! I could compare them head to head. Both offer excellent food, a great...atmosphere and an authentic deli experience. Sarge's pastrami and coleslaw were very good, though I found the 2nd ave one a little better. By contrast, I found Sarge's pickles better and their cucumber salad excellent (I can't compare as the 2nd ave Deli guys forgot mine!) I also found service a lot nicer/friendlier at Sarge's and prices are a hint less high though they have also gone up a lot in recent years. I got my meal as take away and enjoyed it thoroughly and I can't wait to be back!More

Sarge’s promises a classic NY deli experience and it delivers. We ordered take out through Door Dash twice during our visit to the Big Apple. The first time we got a truly overstuffed corned beef/pastrami sandwich. It was delicious, but difficult to fit our mouths...around. We also got disappointing waffle fries. They may have been excellent to start but didn’t survive the damp, ten-minute walk to our hotel in crisp form. The second time we got an open-faced sandwich--the Hudson. It was like a Ruben, but with corned beef and pastrami in addition to the Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing. It was a great flavor combo. The potato salad was a definite step-up from the fries. On each trip we also got cheesecake because--why not! It was excellent! The food was always ready faster than predicted by Door Dash. With all the food choices in the area, it says something that we went back for more!More

If you're a vegan, then a NYC deli is maybe not the best choice you could make, as your choices will be extremely limited. I agree with RonFG that the best people to give you an answer are the people who run the restaurant... More
